1.
presumably it's exactly these deficiencies from the engineering standpoint that give the sound a characteristic that is attractive to the ears of the punter who bought it in the first place? hence the reason why these cab combinations are used?
But would anybody in a normal gigging situation (the tiny stages most of us perform on) even hear the 115. This was an extreme example but I picked it because somebody was being advised to add a 1x15 to an Ashdown rig in another thread. I wonder if you were gigging with this kind of rig would you notice if the bottom cab was unplugged? The other thing is most shops only have one cab on demo - so you cant try 2 of the same cab in the shop even if you wanted to.
2. It can only be an electrical or mechanical breakdown. If the driver is getting the same juice as the other (check for dry joints) then it could be a fault with the voice coil not inducing the cone to move or the voice coil is OK but something mechanical is stopping the cone from moving. It does not have to be much and pushing the cone to make sure it moves only really proves its not really really f***ed and not just f***ed
3. I could be wrong - it did happen twice.
4. To use the technical term - its f***ed.
5. No - not knob size Why do so many think their bass rig has to have 10 inch and 15 inch cabs (or other combination of driver sizes). OK there are some 3 way cabs with a mid-range driver and tweeter, and even two way cabs with bass and mid speakers, but a lot of bass players think that the ideal rig is a 1x15 with a 2x10 or 4x10. I think the theory behind this is that the 10's will carry the midrange where the 15's run out, and the 15 will go lower than the 10's. But if you think about it the frequencies where the cabs overlap will be so much louder than the frequencies where only one cabs is effective as to render those frequencies virtually inaudible. Just by way of example take some Ashdown ABM cabs and the published frequency response (that is pretty vague to be honest): ABM 115 37Hz - 2kHz 98dB 1W@1m ABM 210T 75Hz - 20kHz 102dB 1W @ 1m Not withstanding the fact that the 210 has a 4dB advantage in sensitivity it also means that 75Hz to 2kHz will be 7dB louder than 37 to 75Hz. That is one serious midrange hump! Throw into the mix the possibility of phase cancellation where phase changes with frequency response at different frequencies for the different cabs and you have all the ingredients for a very unpredicatable sound.
6. Well if we all liked the same stuff we would have nothing to chat about. Were you trying the MarkBass cabs as well? There does seem to be an opinion that the cabs are not as good as the amps. There is a chrome ABM 500 and 212 cab for sale here if you want better Ashdown. By all means try adding a 115 as well but take care when mixing cabs as the results can be unpredictable.
7. Cant believe nobody wants this lovely bass.
8. Well they do add to the rock vibe and unlike most knobs you can even see where they are set.
9. Just finished watching Ghost Rider on Sky Movies and up pops a bass thats got skull knobs with flaming eyes - how spooky is that.
10. This week I bought this: And the Shuttle lands Monday
11. You'll be lucky - nobody is gonna have a Shuttle 3.0 till Monday. And Mark does not do Mark Bass cabs.
12.
I used to think I'd do pretty much anything for an Overwater, but the reviews I've found have never been too hot. Has anyone here got one/owned one?
Dont know what you have been reading but I have never seen a bad review of an Overwater and the ones I have played were very nice indeed. There are quite a few bass chatters with overwaters but they dont seem to be very active. You could always look in the Basschat Overwater forum.
13. Captian Japcrap to the rescue again
14. AS reviewed in the current bass guitar magazine
15. I really do like a nice bit of quilt.
16. there is no best
17. I think there are a couple of guys making a lot of noise including one that took the pre-amp off his stingray cos it was too hissy. Millions of Ray's sold but his has a duff pre-amp so they must all be duff.
18. The Ox used them - nuff said.
19. I have taken a fretted and fretless since I got my first fretless in 1989. The fretless is now tuned DGCF and I sometimes take a detuned fretted as well, but usually just the two. I have an EBS Microbass II as backup - if my rig goes tits will plug into the PA - it wont be great but I will finish the gig.
20. Now that is a proper rig
21. And the Dr Bass 1260. And the EBS Neo112. And the Genz Benz NeoX112. There are absolutely loads of 1x12 cabs out there!
22. I cant understand what this thread is all about - if you dont want lightweight gear dont f***ing buy it! Its not compulsory
23. Just ordered this little lot as we have a private party coming up in the back room of a pub with no lights. Full report to follow in due course.
24. Have you looked at the basschat wiki. It could probably do with a bit more on guages but i'm hoping somebody else will chip in with some useful info. Has been a long wait!
