What do you mean by tapewounds? Flats are often called tape wounds cos thats what they are, flat tape wrapped round a core instead of round wire. Or do you specifically mean nylon tapewounds like the trubass and the GHS nylons?

Yep - there are lots of people that get suckered into paying over the odds cos its ebay so must be a bargain. One of my ex wives got caught like that down the market, paid twice as much for a set of glasses than they were in Argos cos of some market stall patter. Del Boy would have been proud.

Look at the gear the guys that influence you use. Most rock acts use Ampeg, Ashdown, Mesa, GK, etc. Even if its not what you actually hear its still an indicator of the sound they like. Have a look at the endorsee pages and signature models on the amp makers website can give you an indication. Go all valve if you have the dosh. The Gallery site is a good place to start as they have links to all the makers sites.

Or do all 3 if there are enough tracks - then you can pick the best when mixing down and probably use a bit of all 3. Distortion often robs out the low end but you dont notice it onstage in the heat of battle.

EBS? Got one in my KSD and one of my GB's.

My first proper rig was a 2x12 and I have been using 12's for the last few years. I can vouch for the EBS Neoline 212 and GenzBenz NeoX112T's as I am now using a pair of the latter. Good cabs as long as you are OK with the Neo sound.

If it aint broke - dont fix it. Get another the same.

There is no magic number - it all depends on a lot of things. There is a guy who plays one of the pubs I drink in that gigs with a Selmer Treble and Bass 50.

New Venue last night - Witterings British Legion Must be cos it was a new venue as we were really tight. Even had some cheering from the audience and that does not happen very often in legionland!

You have just missed an IP112 that was sold last week. I was good value as well.

EBS used to do a powered 3 way cab but its not in the range any more.

If you hear the cabs distorting turn it down. Can be hard to notice in a maelstrom of guitars and drums so listen carefully and you should be OK.
