1. Some have suggested the boat was sunk by an italian submarine MV MarkBass!
2.
Thanks guys, im waiting for Bass-Ferrits HD350 anyway!
You and me both mate!
3. Yes you will likely damage the amp or keep tripping the protection. No there is not a way round it. You could get some leads made up by OBBM etc to connect the cabs in series but then you will only get what the amp delivers into 8 ohms (still a few 100 watts I expect). Interesting link about wiring cabs but I dont know how you can re-wire a 1x15
4.
Other than that, do 'Rays have a trim pot to control the output on the electronics?
If they dont you could always get a tech to fit one. The fun I have is that my basses are pretty close in output but at some venues one sounds louder and at other venues the other. Makes life interesting.
5. A good strap is hard to find - lots of e-sellers are pretty pitiful in the strap department unless you want Comfort. I have a Leathergraft one I have had for years, a Levys EBS strap and a Harley Davidson strap cos I needed a strap for that nights gig, it was the only one in the shop long enough and it cost me fifty f***ing quid
6. irie and welcome. You cant dub reggae
7. Doh - knew it would be wrong. I guess it depends on whether you put the bas through the monitors making the backline superfluous even if you still use it just to look good
8. Someone said on another thread that we all use DI so it does not matter if our backline sounds sh*t - so I thought I would find out. I dont think we do and most of the bands I see in pubs locally dont.
9. Depends on the amp. Most amps have a pre-amp out or effects send that does not break the signal (parallel effects sent) so lead out of that and into the power amp. You would have to RTFM to find the output voltabe though.
10. There is a guide to different woods on the status smart bass pages as well. Both my GB's are swamp ash cos I wanted as light as possible and they both sound completely different (and anything but wooly).
11. Status dont publish prices except for the smart bass that start at £900. This has got to be a lot more expensive. I looked at the retro-active when I got my GB and it was about the same price.
12. I think they left the 1 off the front of the price!
13.
These look pretty comfy. Anyone have any experience with them? Overwater Bass Straps
See post #5
14. Dont get hung up about rack mounting - its just a way of casing an amp as opposed to it being in a wooden box like a traditional amp or in nothing like some of the modern micro-amps. You will get much better value second hand and thats where I would look to spend your money. You are gonna struggle to to get ampeg for that money though.
15.
Never mix different drivers operating within the same bandwidth.
I was gonna say that but thought I had flamed this thread enough
16. I have been tormenting myself with the owners manual: POWER INPUT – VOLTAGE SELECTOR SWITCH - The SHUTTLE 6.0® utilizes rear panel switch selectable universal power supply that operates from 100V to 240 volts, 50 to 60 Hz for world wide use. Simply set the switch to the appropriate AC mains voltage (BEFORE connecting to the power source), and utilize the proper IEC cord-set appropriate for the country the product is being used. For countries using 100V, 110V, 115V and 120V AC mains, select the 115V switch position on the Voltage Selector switch. For countries using 220V, 230V, and 240V AC mains, select the 230V switch position on the Voltage Selector switch. There is no externally accessible AC mains (line) fuse, the internal fuse is integral to the SMPS power supply and is not user serviceable. This fuse will not fail except under very unlikely fault conditions to the SMPS, and if this occurs a qualified service technician is required to correct the problem.
17. Accugrove Tri-112?
18.
You're a bad man johnnylager....
Yes he is
19. The overwater leather straps look nice too - lots cheaper than shops sell Levys. Shame they are out of stock. The neoprene are way to short for me - I have mine at 53 inches.
20.
I'd love a 4 ohm 3 way cab, with a 12 inch woofer, 8 or 6 inch mid cone and a tweeter all in a compact, hopefully one hand lift.
You mean just like a Dr Bass 1260? http://www.drbasscabs.com/
21. they have been hit hard with the ugly stick
22. Just had a thought - did you try a Markbass R500 with your cabs?
23. I dont think there are smaller lighter 112 cabs than the Neolines. I used to throw mine up in the air and catch them to show how light they were. If you want light its pretty much got to be Neo's. The new Bergy AE112 are supposed to sound more traditional. Other than that you are looking at the non neo Bergy, Aguillar GS and DB, and thats about it for a 112! I think Robbies Dr Bass cabs are all Neo.
24. Perhaps I should have explained myself better and used some examples. For example, you will probably hear a greater difference in sound between an EBS Proline 212 and an EBS Neoline 212 than you will between the Proline 212 and Proline 410 because of the neo speakers. Similarly if you compared a Bergantino HS210, Berg AE210, MAG 210, ABM 210, MB 210 front port, MB210 rear port, shiny Hartke 210, BFM Omni 210 and an Acme 210 they will all sound different.
