If you want to get a 5 string then get one and dont be put off by what other people say or play. In some respects it is easier to play a 5 string because you have more choice of hand positions (low G can be third fret on the E string and 8th fret on the B string) and you can play figures across the board that would involve moving hand positions on a 4. The downside is harder to play cos the necks are wider.

In case you do not not understand the previous post, I absolutely will not, under and circumstances, tell somebody what to buy. If I did, I would tell everybody they need GB basses and GB amps, and I have not even got the latter yet.

Jet Black played keyboards  I think the OP's point is spot on, even though the compehension was not. He did funk to death and got sick of it, something that can happen to all of us with any genre. The problem as I see it is that funk is everywhere, not just labelled "funk". Led Zeppelin were funky as f***, thats what made them rise above the other metal (or heavy rock, whatever label you want to hang on it) of their time and still makes them great today. Same with Floyd (Pink not Keith).
To be quite honest Mr Bass Ferret, most of what you say is merely belitteling someone else, and thus to anyone with any sense, meaningless.
No. Its fact. I have been here long enough to know that everyone votes for what they are currently using, irrespective of the op. Hence all the posts from EPI 3x10 users. TBH its pointless telling someone else what to buy, cos my idea of what sounds good may not be the same as theirs. If you look back through my posts you will find absolute consistancy of this message.

My last few rigs have been 2 Peavey 2x10, EBS Neo 110/112, ESB Neo 212 and now 2 Genz Benz Neox112T. Only one of those is an option so I have gone for that but there is a lot more to cabs than just the number of speakers so I really think your poll is a bit meaningless and everyone is just gonna vote for what they have got.
i've got a shuker being built with the jet king body shape. i love the kind of vintage pawn shop vibe it gives off,
Good idea. I was thinking something like that myself - same as if you really wanted a non-reverse T-bird (which is kind of similar) and dont want an Epiphone.
Tread carefully. Word is MarkBass cabs are not as good as the heads and not as good as EBS cabs, and dont work as well with a certain custom builders basses. Are you going to A/B them?

I'm sure there are also many people who love MB cabs and loathe the MB amps. Always preferred 'objective' to 'subjective' meself - must be the engineer in me.
I did say word I used the 110/112 with an HD350 for years and loved the sound. Got a Neo212 for when I needed that bit extra Gonna give Genz Benz a try but there was nothing wrong with the sound of GB Basses through EBS Neo's to my ears. -

Played a gig with a Genz Benz shuttle 6.0
bass_ferret replied to Ham fisted Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
There is nothing quite like talking bollocks. I had a good play with a Genz Benz GBE 750 and its a cracking amp, but I wanted something lighter than my HD350 not 10 lbs heavier and thats where this new generation of class D amps come in. They all seem to be crammed into tiny boxes though and then you need rack ears or a bag like I ordered for my shuttle. There is a dutch company that does 400W amps in 1U but I dont know why cant they make them in a 2U same as normal amps. A GBE 750 that weighs f*** all would be even better than the Shuttle. -

A waste of wood and strings?

Another US challenger to MarkBass. Watch TalkBass go mad over this one.

Be prepared to fiddle with your tone controls to cut through the band. You dont say what flats you are using and that makes a lot of difference to the sound and feel.

Nor do I understand the association between light weight and cheapness.

AT £600 you are getting into Lakland Skyline money. I know what I would get.

Not sure Trace invented the high power rig - Acoustic and Sunn were doing it well before. Lots of bands playing in lots of pubs and clubs run vocal only PA, and they need bass rigs. A full band PA is a big investment and lots of bands either dont want to collectively pony up or dont want one person to own the "band" PA cos then they will start thinking they are the band. Of course you dont need 1000's of watts for playing with unamplified drums unless you are using cabs that need lots of power like Alex old Acme's.

And I Was Made To Love Her that even Stevie Wonder says was Jamerson.

I have tried to ignore this thread but it just wont go away. I do wish people would stop posting drivel like this. So he is 15, so f***ing what. Have you ever watched the Young Musician of the Year on BBC - loads of kids with this level of virtuosity, just playing more recognised instruments thats all. Ok kids are now getting the same level of proficiency on our instrument, but there are loads and loads of 15 year old bass players (and quite a few on here), playing in bands with their mates and having fun, gigging in the school hall and youth clubs, rather than being a bass nerd playing music on your own that only bass nerds would listen to. To misquote Stanley - if my bass could talk I would have someone to talk to.

Probably one of the guys who used to buy stuff cheap on ebay and sell on here for a profit. It sold cheap cos the seller did not try hard enough.

Well I for one am not expecting bigger and longer lasting erections If it sounds as good as my HD350 for a fraction of the weight I will be happy. If it sounds better I will be very happy and if it sounds worse I will be disappointed.
