1. Not my beverage but that is a lovely bass.
2. Welcome chap
3. Yes - confused as well. As for the playing - nobody wants to hear the originals let alone covers. Can he/she/it play Ruby
4. This is a re-issue of an original Ibanez bass from way back. Its cheap enough and cheap Ibanez are usually nice to play. You need it in black though.
5. Jimmy Blanton could do it. Some bloke called Jamerson was pretty sh*t hot on upright as well. As for Dave Holland - he played bass on Bitches Brew and that makes him a god!
6. Not sure about tasty. Looks very short scale.
7. Yes. Dont notice when gigging but it is quite noisy at home.
8.
Sorry BF, you've completely lost me. Do you mean "size" as in speaker configs or cab dimensions? With the exception of a couple of the Traveller series, arn't all MB cabs the same width? 59.4cm.
Not looked recently cos not interested in buying MB cabs but they were all different width and depth so stacking them looked a little odd. I did suggest this was to stop people from mixing the cabs. I personally would always use multiples of the same cabs rather than mixing because I have had problems in the past. Some of the speaker guru's also have strong views that mixing cabs is not a good idea.
9. Both. Horn loaded cabs are generally more sensitive than reflex ported cabs that are generally more sensitive that sealed cabs. The Schroeder has some degree of horn loading on the diagonal facing driver.
10. Cos we can
11. Using a 250w cab with a 350w amp would be fine if you follow the golden rule - if it starts distorting turn it down. The problem comes when you start using effects that dramatically alter the sound, with loud guitars and drummers, and you dont hear the distortion until it too late.
12. Regular readers will know what I think. Why do you think MB cabs are all different sizes?
13. Thats why most bass cabs are flat!
14. Thats why I pay someone who knows what they are doing to do it for me.
15. Have you looked at the articles in the basschat wiki?
16. There are lots of amps that do slap really well (if you really need to go back to the 1980's). Marcus Miller was an EBS endorsee until Fender paid him to switch to SWR. Mark King is a tart and will use whatever pays him the most (Trace now Ashdown). Flea uses GK. Try it all and buy what you like best.
17.
What's the going rate for a GB bass? No pricing on their website - looks great by the way. Their standard range looks quite appealing!
Used to be £1500 upwards. May have gone up since cos its been that for years.
18. Only a four banger but you get the idea. Look at old gits Shuker P5 as well.
19.
Thanks by the way ferret, I know you've been working on the wiki, and hopefully I speak for a few members when I say it's appreciated.
Thanks Buzz.
20. Maybe I was too harsh on the OP (it has happened) or maybe he did not express what he was trying to say. I have been known for flaming the odd post off message for what is expect (often by other bass players) of bass players. Jaco - technically brilliant - musically indifferent Slap - that was the '80's unless you are Flea I am sure my fans could quote lots of other examples, 9 strings basses maybe? Nobody should be expected to conform to somebody elses ideal. One thing I have learned is that as I have got older my taste has got broader and I now listen to stuff I would have puked on when I was younger. One thing that has amused me is the number of posts that think funk = slap. How wrong can you be?
21. Although the BBC would not dare rig the vote like ITV did, the song choice has a significant impact on the voting and some of the girls had really crap songs this week. I would like to see Jodie in the ridiculously high heels and short skirts some of them had to wear this week. But then again, maybe not
22. Like it says on the wiki - status hotwire half are the brightest halfs I have used; TI Jazz Flats are the brightest flats I have used. Other than that - FIIK.
23. Dont tell that bloke that does not like funk
