1. Totally agree with the view that the shop sound is not a good indicator of the gig sound with your band in your venues, but it is better than nothing and the days of shops letting me try stuff at gigs is long gone. I will absolutely not tell someone what to buy - I would hate it if they bought what I said and did not like it. My idea of a good sound may not be the same as anyone elses and frankly all the guys that just recommend what they use (sometimes without even reading the OP properly) wind me up. OP. Just joined a Level 42 tribute band wot amp should I buy. Reply. Ampeg
2. I wondered about the traffic lights but they are on all GB amps. Never did Aguillar any harm
3.
If this sort of combination is 'sonically' inferior thant the TE then I'm inclined to soldier on for a few more years with my existing set up.
You are gonna have to be the judge of that. One mans sonic inferiority is another mans hedgehog.
4. Its absolute bollocks to say he needs 500 watts! But you do need lots more watts than guitars, 2-3 times as much, so if the guitars are using 100watts the the bass needs 2-300 watts. Thus is cos guitars have a narrower frequency band to amplify and distorted guitars amps usually sound good whereas distorted bass amps usually sound bad and f*** your speakers. Speaker efficiency is also an important consideration. £300 is not a lot of cash for a gigging rig so its best to lurk around the classified ads on here and your local Loot, Friday Ad etc.
5. "GENZ BENZ warrants all products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship, for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase, when purchased from an authorized GENZ BENZ dealer. " This happens with EBS gear bought on the web from europe and when it goes tits they phone EBS UK and expect them to fix it. To quote Del Boy, "no way Pedro". Do you honestly think GENZ BENZ dealers in the UK would want to know.
6. Think you are going to struggle for light weight on your budget. Not used MarkBass myself but the amps do seem better than the cabs.
7. Mark at Bass Direct has a GB Neox210T at the moment. And some Bergs.
8.
FWIW I've imported all my GB kit direct from the US (from official dealers), and GB have told me they will stand by the warranty.
[Pedant Mode]This one is a priveat sale on ebay not direct from a GB dealer whether in the UK or the US[/Pedant Mode]
9. I had a feeling you were up north - and I dont think it will go through my letterbox Its a good price and I dont think they make that style any more.
10. Tis a problem to be sure. There are other places that stock other wacky gear like the Overwater Bass Emporium in Carlise and Bass Direct in Kenilworth (is that in the midlands?), but unfortunately in the music biz the world does revolve around London, and the Bass Merchant in Essex. You could always go to the next bash in Northampton - thats north of Watford to.
11.
Well i have one on order just a question of waiting for the shipment , it's going to be agonizing, mark has advised me not to watch my kettle for some reason
Jonny come lately! Some of us have been waiting since March!
12. Always like the traditional look of these babies. Where are you based?
13. Lots of possibilities but without knowing the complete signal chain from end to end it is difficult to say much cos you have only told us about one little bit of it. Are you using a DI box, are you using wireless, are you using cheap leads not properly shielded that are often the source of this kind of problem?
14.
The F1 and Little Mark didn't show any of that characteristic rubber bandyness that I've come to expect from MarkBass (perhaps because I've only ever tried combos and heads with their cabs in the past).
Think you may be right and thats probably the reason why the heads are more popular than the cabs - and I thoght its cos they is yellow.
15. I think you will find the lack of opinion is cos nobody has done it. Its not something I would do and getting new strings is probably easier. If you are gonna put a new speaker in the tiddler why not put a dual concentric driver in there (assuming you can find one with the right spec).
16. Its neck and neck I prefer in-between, where I think a 'Ray is as well. Does than mean I shag women up the gary?
17. Dont know how you missed it but theres a few of us gagging for our shuttles.
18. Man that really sucks - hope you get sorted. Bet they never even offered you any puff!
19. Another +1 for the Airline - its great if you change basses a lot cos the transmitter is so small.
20.
I took my grade 6 and am working towards my grade 7.
Well done Alice - thats 6 grades more than I have
21. Lets hope Marks arrive before the auction ends
22. Do you mean one of these
23. Its all back thanks to phatmonkey. The thing is that wiki's by their nature have quite robust backup and recovery facilities because of their vulnerability to malicious update. A normal users updates can always be reversed and the only people that can f*** things up good and proper are admin, hence my concern.
24. It was not just my authority that got revoked but a lot of what I wrote I copied to finnbass so I could work on it there without risking the wrath of admin (I was expecting to be exorcised like a number of others have been and wanted to make sure it did not get lost). Ped has HELPFULLY removed all the links.
