2. http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:industry:s...?rev=1204978282 I had a set to with admin and it seems my authority on the wiki has been revoked.
3. Sell them both and get a cab with a tweeter if thats what you really want. without knowing basses, strings, amp, playing style its impossible to know why you are getting a dull sound. Other than that - build a tweeter box you can use with both like a trace bright box.
4. I have used a fretted and fretless for most on my bass playing gigs - so thats 2. We recently started tuning to D for some songs so I got another bass to tune to D but got so fed up carting 3 basses I detuned the fretless. I also have an old Bass Collection that my son thinks looks cool but never plays. And an acoustic for when I learn new songs - I can just pick it up when I realise have forgotten the lines. So thats 5, two of which dont get used. Does not stop the GAS attacks when something foxy comes up though.
5. According to GK website - POWER <1% THD: Main Amp-320W, 480W with Extension Cabinet -- Horn Amp-50W@8ohm. GK are unique in driving the horn separately. Anyway - I doubt you or anyone else would notice the difference between 380 watts and 500 watts.
6.
That was Paul_C - formerly Arrowheadguitars - and his infamous "collection" - I bought one of them.
Close but no cigar eh
7. you will get lots of 'post what I use' responses but what you want is not really well catered for. If you are sure you are never going to gig you dont need lots of watts you want bags of tone and probably a compressor if you are determined to slap. Unfortunately most low powered amps are cheap practice amps not tone monsters.
8.
That is such a copy of the Fender Telecaster bass, I just wonder why anyone would choose one and not an original Fender version.
Have you looked at the website and all the different options?
9.
One day I'll own one of these, despite the protests from my girlfriend. Not cheap though. Was anyone here on the Guitarist magazine forum, before it became Music Radar? There was a guy on there who had one of these in almost every colour, plus a few rarities, then got bored and flogged them all, some mega cheap.
That would be PaulH
10. GB actives and that means you gotta buy a GB bass. Well you did ask
11.
Musicians - bass players....bass players - musicians....same thing.
Not at all. All bass players are musicians whether we own up to it or not. Not all musicians are bass players.
12.
Ferret brought up a good point on the Jaco side of things....about people not knowing who he was, I was going to suggest that generally it's musicians who know about Jaco but saying that, there is only one member in a covers band who I play with that sort of knows who Jaco was and these are players that have been around for ever who love to talk nonsense about guitars, music and players, weird innit!
Not musicians - just bass players.
13.
Mani said he was the greatest bass player in the world.
That was the drugs talking.
14. I have always fancied an SWR Interstellar Overdrive - if only for the name.
15. Many amps have a limiter in the output stage so you dont destroy cabs, Peavey's DDT being the most obvious example. This can be why your volume does not increase as you turn the master up - all you are doing is increasing the signal cut out by the limiter. Slapping/tapping/funk fingers etc, more dynamic techniques benefit most from compression as it evens out the sound as described above.
16. Perhaps we could organise a basschat relay. For a small fee someone could pick the gear up and drive it say 50 miles to the next relay. Need lots of organisation mind.
17. At that price you can afford the diesel and night of the dubious pleasures of Travelodge. Never read a bad word about GK stuff on here.
18. LOL - that is truely dreadful. These were state of the art in their day and still kicks todays budget gears butt. Something for the young fit and strong.
19. For me its about the music. And also about some sort of perverse dislike of commercially successful artists - like you can only be really great if nobody knows about it. Thus the great bass players secret, Jaco Pastorius, that nobody else knows about, is rated above guys like Macca, The Ox, Flea, Roger Waters, Steve Harris, even Mark King, who were all in massive bands loved by millions (but even then Mark King nerds will rate the stuff before they were successful and Chilli's nerds BSSM - and I do think the Chilli's nerds are right as I had lots of Chilli's stuff before they hit the big time). I can dig Heavy Weather but no matter how many times I listen to the Pastorius album I just dont like it, nor does anyone else I have played it to. Thats what makes me say he is over-rated. His chops and technique were fabulous, ingenius, whatever superlative you want to apply I wont argue; but much of the music was sh*t.

21.
Er... I always though he overplayed. We do My Generation as a cover. Sounds a lot better when you take all the noodling out in the verses. :ducks for cover:
f*** knows what version you have been listening to with noodling in the verse. Even The Ox could not noodle on 2 notes
22. When I bought my first proper bass in 1980 they did 3 models, Roadster, Studio and Musician. I got a Roadster RS924 for about £250. The Studio ST924 was about £500 and the MC924 was about £700.
23. Depends what you mean by retro - after all the Precision is still the original bass guitar.
24.
So why not stop wasting time talking bollocks and do some practice, go out and gig and sound like the bollocks ?
Nobody is making you join in
25.
With all due respect,I'm am going to say that I honestly believe that John Entwhistle is the most over-rated bassist(sorry neilb). Based on the fact that he was voted 'Bassist of the millenium',automatically makes him-in my opinion- seriously over-rated.
Well he was voted 'Bassist of the millenium' by guitarists - thats why Jaco did not win it.
