I think that you are paying for a lot more than the difference between having a jack and a speakon Dont forget that speakons are a relatively recent development and before that everyone used jacks. The real big advantage is you cant use a speaker lead for signal and vice versa.
Are there major differences in the bits used?
Yes. Mex use cheaper hadware. The thing is - buying a mex and then replacing all the hardware is gonna cost as much as buying a US - the only difference is you can spread the cost. But if you are gonna "improve" all the hardware, Hipshot Ultralight tuners, Badass, Wizards, J-retro etc then you may as well start with a mex if you can find a good one. See the few threads on the Big Block precision for more views on what people think of mex Fender quality. This is down to the approach rather than yanks are better at screwing stuff together. Mex are made down to a price.

Not recommended for guitars with nitro lacquer. Whats that all about?

Well I had the output of one of my GB's reduced cos it was so much hotter than my other bass at the time. High output is good for long cables and lots of effects but is probaly over-rated.

Well my olde EBS Neo 212 had a sensitivity of 103 dB and weight 24 kg / 53 lbs. Not what I would call heavy but trunst me - it was fookin loud.
Mr Jamerson was all over the verse and chorus like a rash but i'll bet that Motown wouldnt have had the successes it did without that style of playing, its kinda the point.
Cant recall Jamerson every playing out of time though, so busy with his chops he lost the beat. The funk brothers were always tighter than a gnats chuff. If you blokes cant here Estelle bass losing the beat then I glad I dont have to play with you.
IMHO the song was cool, it "worked" at a faster tempo, the band held it together really well and the bass became the lead instrument without falling into a w***y solo bass trap.
The band did not hold it together - they were out of time as in not all playing to the same beat.
I could be bitchy & suggest that Adele's performance demonstrated the idea that technical ability & tasteful playing cannot raise production-line stage school me-too blandness above what it actually is. But I won't.
Chuckle. Surely you mean Brit School

You need to check the speakers technical spec or get a replacement from GK. I think they are distributed by SMART who have a member on here. Its not like any 15inch speaker will do. Why didn't you check whether it was the amp or cab before buying a new one, or was it a crafty gas attack.
Hi Peter, I took a Gotoh bridge off the flea to have the BadAss installed, the difference was not a subtle one BadAss every time for me Rgds Mark
I've often wondered if the Badass is not another Basschat bandwagon that everyone jumps on. Ok the choices are limited for direct replacement without drilling new holes, but if Badass are so great, how come all the UK's custom builders dont use them.
What site are you looking at BF? Peter
http://www.basspartsresource.com/bridge_hipshota4.htm

Just noticed not drilled for through stringing. Looks like a pukka site but that bridge looks like a hipshot knock off.
And I'm about to replace the bridge on my precision with one of these:
The web site says its a Hipshot but the Hipshot website does not list an A type with three hole fitting. Strange.
I don't listen to music for the bass players, which is why, at 50, I am completely unconscious of 99% of the bass players that people rave about. I listen to music for music. I don't consciously listen to bass lines - sometimes a bass line will actually impinge on my consciousness, mostly it won't. In the covers band, I don't give a flying f*** what the original bass line was unless it's actually really important (ie. I've actually noticed it while listening to the track), I'll play my own. Which reminds me, I really must learn the bass line to "Sunny afternoon" by the Kinks for the next time my mate wants to do it on the open mic night.
Plus one. Its about music not number of strings. But why do so many chatters have to have the number of strings in their user name?
Nice looking bass! Any ideas about when it might be in the classifieds then Dave?
I was gonna say the same. I cant imagine how stunning that would look in the flesh cos i've never seen a photo do quilt justice.
I Think the first Commandment of Bass is Listen....Full Stop.! It always amazes me the amount of guys who think it is all about chops and showing off.. Thats why the top guys end up at the top...They Listen.. Garry
Cant argue with that. Playing the chops and keeping the beat is one thing, playing the chops and losing the beat is something else entirely. Still the guy was on telly having fun, cant disagree with that either - but I wonder if she has seen the VT and sacked him.
