I agreed in earlier posts that he overplayed, what I thought was a little unfair was your "f*** all groove" comment.
Thats how I describe guys that get so carried away with their chops they forget the first commandment of bass - listen to the drummer
Thanks hadn't really heard much about SX before but after reading a few threads they seem to be quite popular, any idea of websites that sell them in the UK?
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16555&hl=
Rhythmically the first Estelle song was a mess cos bass chops was not playing in time with the drums

Not a very good bassist in the first, but much better in the second song. So perhaps a case of nerves as the opening act. I can see the Khumalo comparison in the second song (a million miles away in the first).

Do you want to qualify that statement? I've been listening to bass players closely for 35 years, I have played professionally for 20 and I teach to degree standard, which has led me to assess bass players abilities for 10 years, I think your assessment is slightly off the mark. His time is good, he locks with the kit which I think was on a click, the only justifiable criticism to my mind is he overplays. Jake
Well I'm not the only one who noticed. Someone was out of time and the song did not come together until the last verse when it started to swing. If it was not the bass who was overplaying like mad then who was it?

Nice selection of Statii and other things graphite you have there. Cant see the P getting played much but you might just love it.

Rhythmically the first Estelle song was a mess cos bass chops was not playing in time with the drums - made all the more obvious because the drums were too loud on the HD broadcast. As far as I am concerned the first duty of a bass player is to play in time with the drums, playing around the beat if the drummer is good enough but still playing in time. If have often noticed the mixing on Jools leaves something to be desired and it will be interesting to see if the mixing is better on the Friday/Saturday repeat.

Read the wiki.

SX basses seem to be quite popular and you can get a yammy BB for the kind of money you are looking to spend. The Squir VM basses also have a good rep but I would stick to a P bass rather than a tele unless you can check out the sound.
-
Why do you want a precision when you have that?
-
Sounds like fun. Elvis was king, just dont get all shook up about it.
-
Dont know about the Nightingale but the Jazz and GB are defo slap machines and I should think the Ashdown Mark King does the job as well. You dont mention cabs mind but unless you are using a 1x18 you should not have a problem. I think slappers prefer lighter strings and not flats . Compression is the key to slap playing cos it evens out the slaps and the pops. But what do I know, have not slapped for 20 years.
Why do people buy mega-expensive basses anyway? Kudos of the name? Impress other bassists? as an investment? Or the unique shape/sound/feel? Would Joe Public know/care any different - especially after a few pints? I know that YOU'LL know, and I fully understand that and I'm the same in some respects - it matters to ME how it sounds. Last Sunday I messed up more than a couple of times but people said it sounded really great afterwards. Nice to hear but shows how much they know. (Now where's me flame-proof suit gone then?) Having said that, if I had a fortune I'd probably get something custom made. As would we all. Or a Rickenbacker 4001. Or an Aria Pro II.... Or, or, er..... I feel an oncoming GAS attack.... Oh No! Not Now!!
Why have an FJ1200? A Puch Maxi will still get you from A to B.
I remember someone on alt.guitar.bass saying that every fretless player ever was influenced by Jaco.
More bollocks from the Jaco publicity machine. For an esoteric artist they sure worked hard. Jaco did not invent the fretless bass and they were available to buy when he took the pliers to his Jazz. I am afraid the first person who did take the pliers to their frets was bass god (not) Bill Wyman.
I use the High C to play chords, and to play guitar parts in the contect of a 3 piece band.
Ah - so thats why Cream were such a crap band, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They were all 3 piece bands that did not have a bass player chording on a C string.
-
But I am sure someone on another thread said real musicians dont play 4 strings
I think more of bass players when they started out, so for me The Ox I think of as sixties.
Who's Next released 31 July 1971 (U.S.) 25 August 1971 (UK) - one of the best albums of all time IMHO. Not everyone will like it - some people like the Spice Girls! Quadrophenia released 19 October 1973 - the last of the holy trinity along with Tommy. Two of the Who's three best albums are from the 70's and only one from the 60's. Also, as I mentioned when I voted, Marvin Gaye's Whats Going On was from the 70's and we all know who played bass on that.

So predictable.

You know if you post something twice (it happens) then you can delete one of them if you do it before anyone replies. As for G&L, have you tried google?
-
Let me guess the winner?

I thought SKB cases had a funny thread so you had to buy their bolts.
-
-
As you have to buy the bolts as some sellers dont include with the case then anyone selling SKB cases.
-
+1 - thats why I asked if the drums were mike'd up.
-
Mike; why didn't you get Mike to build your basses?
