Nice parrot! Is it a Norwegian Blue?
Also be very cognizant of cab distance from the rear wall, adjusting that can also notch out boom frequencies.
See the wiki for this.

There is a good explanation on the wiki and the sticky.

Sounds like your low frequencies were coupling with the stage. There are a few threads on this and the answer is usually Gramma pad. If you do a search on Gramma you should find some. Were the drums mike'd and the bass DI'd? Sometimes the kick and the bass double up to boom and it always sounds like the bass, usually when the kick is too high in the mix but it may be acoustic. As for cutting through - try boosting the mids on your EQ. Depends a lot on the strings as well.

They do look like sex! The question has been asked before but not sure if any actually got one. Might be put off if they were MIM.

Following on from what Jake said above, the reason for SATB is it covers the range of the human voice and very few people can sing lower than bottom E. The human ear is most sensitive to the range of the human voice unless it is f***ed like mine are. Ergo notes outside the range of the human voice are not always heard so well. Grand Piano's compensate for this by producing more volume in the low notes that is why they always sound better than uprights. It is also why the high notes are usually difficult to hear. The 4 string format was used by St Leo because it was the most common format for string basses, but 6 string fretted bass viols were made in the 18th Century so it was not exclusively 4 string. The range of the string bass matches the lower range of the human voice.
and a Duck Dunn, or whatever it's called (do they only come in red sparkle?)
Donald "Duck" Dunn, bass player with the Memphis Group, or MG's as they are commonly know, as in Booker T and the MG's. Stax/Altlantic house band so their James Jamerson, played on Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, etc - all the stuff Tommy Cogbill did not play on. Later a Blues Brother. Total bass legend - up there with the gods.

New Head Trace, GK, Aguilar, mark bass, Epifani

MarkBass is a bandwagon that lots are jumping on at the moment. Alternitives I could suggest include EBS and GenzBenz. I just sold an EBS HD350 for £400 and I think there are a couple more for sale for that kind of money. Great amps. -

Dont know where these people get off with the bass of doom being the most famous, amongst bass players maybe.

You're probably right in that last sentence, but I'm pretty sure the same would apply to Jamerson, due to the practices of the time he was probably less credited on albums/singles than Jaco. (a crime IMO)
Until a few years ago I would have been inclined to agree with you, but Standing In The Shadows has been on TV quite a lot recently and a lot more people know about Jamerson. Plus of course lots more people have listened to Jamerson even if they did not know it. I have found the Top 10 Fender Basses article and put it in the wiki. Dont blame me if you dont agree - I did not write it.

This comes up with monotonous regularity. Have a go with the search engine and you should find loads. Personally I've never needed more than 4 but I do cheat and tune one of my basses down a tone.

Finding string Nirvana is a long and expensive business. What one person loves another will not. I use Status Hotwire Half Rounds on my fretless but TI Jazz Flats on my fretted. Go figure.

Look on the wiki - a lot of the string info has been moved there.
-
Thought you was gonna be exclusively 5 strings. You should have kept the Jazz.
-
Good stuff. Why not stick it in the wiki instead of leaving it here to fall off the page?

just make sure the band do em in the keys you are learning. Re Sweet Home Alabama, its just a three chord bash as someone said, but i've heard so many band play it without the swing in needs to carry the song.

You were playing the right notes, not necessarily in the right order.

I think you will find lots of fans of SX basses on this forum.

This is what they said: Bass players day is a brilliant afternoon. Dave Barnard gives bass lessons at the pub and at the end of every 10 week term we have an afternoon of entertainment. There is also a bring/buy/swop section, many interesting instruments on display, talks and music lessons.

I use velcro to tie up my cables. Get a metre of velcro from your local fabric shop, chop it up and use it to tie up your cables - lasts for ever.

Looking good. Nice to see someone bucking the trend with a P neck on a Jazz - its normally the other way round. I see you are in West London - did you get a quote from the West London builder as well? -
Any other nominations in this price range?
Not a clue! Unlike yourself I did not spend a fortune on custom basses to play cheap planks instead. But then I never do gigs where gear is shared and never have. Anyone who turns up for a gig without a bass should f*** off as far as I am concerned. It maybe that these really are cheap planks as good as stuff that is 3 times the price. But I am a cynical old bastard who thinks that if something is too good to be true then it is not true.
The reason Im not keen on naming and shaming is because I dont want to land the forum in hot water on the off chance any of the management happen to frequent the forum - we have had some estabilishments contact us about some comments mademon here pertaining to the reputation of said business, and although these are my opinions and do not reflect the board in general I would rather play it safe. If i had the time or was terribly bothered I would write to them, but in honesty I will just avoid that place altogether.
As long as you stick to facts and dont colour it with opinions, difficult I know, there is f*** all they can do. But then anyone shopping in Reading will probably know where it is anyway.
