1. Read the wiki - there is a good article about gain.
2. Another +1 - get in a band. Playing with other people adds a whole new dimension.
3. Waits for howls of indignation
4.
Hi All, Here is another contender for the lightest cab. I have just taken delivery of 2 of Mike Walsh's "Zoot" Cabs. They weigh in at 34lbs and 32.25 lbs, (as light as a feather).
EBS Neo 112 weighs in at 27lbs. I have had shits that weighed more (ok slight exaggeration).
5. Presumably you changed the tap on the output transformer to 4 ohms. Lots of old valve amps only had taps for 8 and 16 ohms so I hope you checked this out.
6. Like others have said - smaller market, more so for mass produced machine tooled instruments. Custom basses would probably make no difference. Nobody wanted the lefty GB thats for sale on here. Guitars are just about the only instruments that come left handed, and you get lefty drummers who have the kit round the wrong way. Anyone seen a left handed piano? Or a left handed fiddle player in a symphony orchestra?
7. Outboard pre-amp like a BDDI or EBS Microbass II etc etc.
8. f***ed if I know. You will have to use the tried and trusted process of elimination, starting by replacing the bug with a lead.
9.
When it is full of people and the air is smoky though it seems to add a little something.
Where is that then?
10. When I started basschat I was pretty shocked at how quickly some people got through gear. In the 28 years I have been playing I have used 6 basses and for 20 of those 28 years I have used a fretted and fretless. If was not for the weight of the basses I used when I was young I would have changed less. I have had a few more rigs in the same time but some of that has been to keep up with increased stage volume. I have had two very expensive divorces mind but neither of my ex wives would have let me hang a brace of GB's in the front room!
11.
Thanks for that . Just ordered up some of my regular strings (Sadowskys) , but might have a change around next time. I know you're e-commerce wary but I thought I'd just give you the heads up on this. The guys I get my strings from in the States are doing 2 sets of Fatbeams for just over £28 shipped. I've been using them for 4 years and I've only ever had excellent service from them . Linky ... 12. Some of the deals are better than others but 2 sets for the price of one is stonking. No Jazz Flats though
13. Fretless basses are no different from any other bass and they will buzz if the action is too low or the truss rod is too tight just like a fretted bass.
14. Funny thing early Music Man had mutes as well
15. Look at the pinned custom bass thread in porn.
16.
If your in aband and you gig around a bit it would do you no harm to email Hi Watt and see if you can get an endorsement from them, their price for a new DR201 direct from them is just under a grand...worth a poke like.
They wouldn't give one to The Killers - thats why they taped over the name badges.
17. I think you have answered your own question. It might not do any damage but OTOH why take a chance.
18. Your Accugroove had a crossover.
19. Welcome fellow southerner
20.
What's more to the point is whether their responses will complement or detract from each other. The majority of the time the latter is the case. One of the first things you learn in How to Design Loudspeakers 101 is never to mix different drivers or cabs covering the same bandwidth. Yes, I know, that's how it's always been done with bass cabs, but that doesn't make it any less wrong. My advise: don't do that.
I remember you keep saying that Bill but can never remember why. Remind me.
21.
Rotosound Swingbass Roundwounds (not sure of the gauge but I think they're 45-105's)
Dont like em myself but its so long since I tried them I cant remember why. Should not be a problem as long as they are changed often enough as I seem to recall they went off quite quick when I used them.
22. There was one for sale on here for weeks and weeks c/w cab loaded with 1x15/4x10. Went off to ebay but dont know if it sold. It has not been back so maybe it did or the fella gave up.
23. There is no answer to that - it depends on the sensitivity and frequency response of each cab and also which cab gets stacked on top nearer your ears.
24. What strings are you using?
25.
Twas I who mentioned 10s. Think Oasis and Blur are 90s tho. I suppose Blur existed in the end of the 80s but their famous albums are all 90s....
Who said Oasis and Blur? My bad - got a bit carried away.
