1. You can get them from any specsavers with a hearing centre.
2. +1 to all the advice above. The midrange is where it is critical and using a pre-shape or smiley face graphic where top and bottom are boosted and mids cut is a very bad idea (I dont know where it comes from TBH). Its a slap sound but who slaps now? and you need 2 bunnys, one under each corner.
3. There is quite a bit on the wiki about amps/cabs/DI etc so maybe have a look there. You can only go into the PA if it is man enough - if you just have a vocal PA then dont put bass through it.
4. Used the halfs once - did not like them but it was so long ago cant remember why.
5. Why should the music for a 6 string be any different to the music for a 5 string (or even a 4 just go down not up)?
6. There are a lot of 4x10's for sale on here at the moment but not a lot smaller - a couple of odd 2x10's.
7. And there is a 400+ for sale as well. Tubes and EV speakers - it cant get much better than that.
8. Flats last longer than rounds - there is some good stuff in the wiki about flats. Cheapest I have seen are Status from their website. Strings are the same price now as they were 20 years ago. I can remember when Fender bought out a budget range of strings for £10 a set and everyone thought that was cheap then, and fags were £1 a packet - and here we are 20 years later wanting to buy strings for the price of 2 packets of fags.
9. Old Peavey gear is heavy but thats why it is so cheap. You wont get much new lightweight neo stuff foy your budget unless you buy really cheap. The Ashdown Little Giant is real cheap but have you seen what they want for the neo cabs?
10.
How do you know what the reserve is, or do the sellers keep that a secret?
usually kept secret although some auctions suggest a starting bid.
11. its not £550 that is what has been bid and is below reserve. There is a Diesel cab for sale on here.
12. I would be tempted to find a bit extra and go for either the Status Groove or Warwick Fortress fretless that are in the for sale section.
13. This and variations of comes up loads. If the straplock screws are smaller than the original screws its gonna be a problem no matter what straplcok you use. if you cant use the original stap button screw - always worth checking - then the cocktial stick/PVA/leave overnight is the best bet.
14. I think there are only 2 options IMO. Black or mirror depending on whether the JJ or Phil Lynott vibe fits your gig.
15. Kin'ell Steve I cant keep up You must be one one hell of a spend
16.
Dave there's been a bit of discussion about the heads here mate http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11508 Hope this helps. Dan
Careful Dood you might get a bollocking for saying that.
17. Well there were a couple of Sadowsky and Valenti's for sale recently. Might be worth looking in the classified.
18. Im not a nerd. They also recon that vertically aligned speakers are better than horizontal as that causes comb filtering, so not only should you use 2x2x10 but if the speakers are side by side they should be stood on end. From personal experience the idea that 1x15 always have more low end than 10 loaded cabs is a myth. I went from 1x15/2x10 to 2x2x10 because the Peavey 2x10s I was using had more bottom end than the 1x15BW.
19. You will find that ashdown are a bit marmite - and have previously had an iffy rep for reliability. The little giants are brand new and the only opinions expressed so far are based on looks, and there is a thread dedicated to them so have a look there. Other than that most rate the ABM above the MAG. The speaker nerds say you should not mix driver sizes so 2x2x10 is better than 2x10/1x15.
20. Everyone does one - and they are probably all better than the factory one. I know a couple of guys down my way have had theirs updated with the EBS one and been well impressed with the results.
21.
I know you said money is no object, but it seems silly to spend loads (or anything at all) until you've tried simpler options.
Dont you know an excuse for GAS when you see one. The preamp in the Jap MM is not the best and a few guys have souped it up with an EBS preamp or the proper Sadowsky fitted to Marcus own bass.
22. PM coming
23. They are very but not universally popular. I use them on my fretted bass but funny enough not on my fretless. I think there is a lot of bass/string synergy with these particular strings.
24. Dont get me wrong - the roots are really important, but locking with the drummer while playing around the beat when you get a bit more adventurous are even more important - there was a big thread about playing around the beat and locking with the kick drum quite recently so it may be worth looking here. As you learn new techniques the important thing to remember is only to use them when required - there are so many guys out there guilty of inappropriate slapping
25. And what did Warwick expect in return?
