1. Cheers for those who have chipped in, and for those that have been busy slagging me off - lets see your contibution! This a great resource and and a great opportunity so spread some knowledge and I dont expect a slagging from admin for trying to push it; and thats the last I shall say on the subject.
2. If the budget is big then there are lots of super-jazz options and lots of guys have them. In no particular order: Sei Shuker GB Overwater Celinder Nordy Status Retro Zoot Have a look at some of the bass porn threads and the stuff in the custom bass pinned thread.
3. Good question. A lot of bass playing (unless you are doing solo sh*t) is about what you leave out as much as what you play. Some tunes have well known bass lines but if you are doing originals rather than covers then start with the chord charts and play with the drummer to get the rythem as bass playing is about the beats as much as the notes. Dont forget you dont have to play the root note of a chord - any note from the chord is valid and you can make up some really cool lines if the chords have lots of 6, 7 and 9 by playing the 6, 7 and 9 not the root.
4. Where are you based?
5. Crikey those pups could not be much closer together or much closer to the bridge. Have you caught something nasty from Lorne?
6. Beware of cabs claiming to go to 35Hz as if it tried to do it will suck all the power from your amp - see numerous threads as to why trying to go that low is a waste of time but its basically what we really hear is harmonics not the fundamentals. None of these cabs are really a one hand lift. Why cant you carry a GS112 in each hand or are they too heavy for that?
7. Well I just log on with my forum username and password. Perhaps thats cos I've always used it since phat got it going. The whole point of a wiki is everyone should be able to contribute and it is somewhat disappointing the number of cant be arsed responses. Pedant away.
8.
* If I ignored the repeated questions all the people that were grateful to be pointed in the direction of the wiki or sticky would be deprived of that advice. How is this a good thing? -Because it is empty.
No its not. The impedence thread was added as a sticky on 17 May and added to the wiki on 19 July. Its a well written article (not by me) with pictures to explain everything. How is it a good thing not to tell people its there? My only beef is with the guys that act as if they own the place - oh they do (well some of them anyway)!
9. Diasy chaining cabs is OK but you have got full beans going from amp to cab 1, so unless you have hight quality cables it is probably best avoided. Some amps only have one speakon and it cant be avoided. With an HD350 I would use both.
10. Basschat is a community - a Spartan community. We are the Helots, the Mods are the Spartans, and there are 2 Kings. Bassworld only had one king but he had the power to demand that Basstalk gave back all of his subjects and knowledge so Basschat had to start with nothing. Lots of people, not just the Kings and Mods, including me who copied a number of threads to my PC (impedance, flats, custom basses and SE bash) and uploaded them onto the empty Basschat as King Gerard was powerless to stop this, put in a lot of work to get Basschat started. Initially Kings Ped and Kiwi were grateful and the stuff copied was made into stickies (or pinned threads as you wish) and ultimately into the wiki. And it came to pass that new people joined Basschat and many did not know about the stickies and the wiki's, and many questions were repeatedly asked with answers to be found in the sticky and wiki. When it was suggested they looked at the answers already posted most Helots were happy to do so, grateful for the advice that the answers they sought were already available, e.g. the impedance attachment has been downloaded 181 times. However, a few Helots, including some who knew the answers were already there but for some reason expected the wisdom of Basschat to be be at their command, took umbrage at being asked to find the answers themselves. It would appear that I had fallen out of favour with the Kings because I was censured for telling people of the sticky and wiki. I have noticed others have also begun adopting this approach without censure. I also found I was falsely accused of the crime of undermining peoples adverts by one of the Kings. I am not the first to fall from favour and many have been exiled by the Kings to a place called Finnbass. Whilst Finnbass has banter in abundance it is a little short of reference material (except for building BFM cabs) and it is the reference material that brings in new members, cos every time they do a google search on something bass related it will usually provide a match with Basschat on page 1. Some of those exiled have been exorcised completely from Basschat and every hint of their existence has been removed. I for one am still unsure why BT68, or Thumper as he became known, was exiled for promoting his BFM building business on Basschat whilst others are allowed to promote their business. However, the Kings are not accountable to the people.
I guess with Basschat being a community, people prefer to ask questions than to search through posts to see if it has been asked before because more often than not, someone will have another view to add. The best thing to do if repeated questions really annoy you is to just not read them - other new members will, and reply - and the balance is restored. Happy days.

If someone has another view to add it should be added to the wiki or sticky - not lost in another post.
If I ignored the repeated questions all the people that were grateful to be pointed in the direction of the wiki or sticky would be deprived of that advice. How is this a good thing?
Other new members reply is usually based just on their personal opinion rather than the consensus view that has built up in the stickies. It normally extends to "I use X".
11. I have uploaded some pictures and they go into a respository for media files - uploading is pretty much the same as uploading attachments. They can be included in the text by wrapping the address of the repository in tags or clicking the image in the repository but it seems to be a bit flakey and sometimes you just get a blank screen. I've put in an entry for GB Guitars that can be edited to see how I did it. Cant seem to be able to remove images from the repository that I did not use (one was rather big). Perhaps phatmonkey can help.
12.
I was pretty impressed with bass_ferrets fretless GB
Considering the quality of your basses I'll take that as a hoooge compliment. Apart from Birdy's Jazz (and IMO you cannot have an opinion on vintage instruments until you have played a few) that is fabulous, its a +1 for OBBM's Duck Dunn Darkstar
13.
Can't seem to add images though ..
There is a button next to the smiley button but cant try it as at work at the moment. Give that a go.
14. There is some good stuff on flats in the wiki. I believe Labella do strings specially for de-tuned basses. I have 3 basses tuned D-G-C-F all with 45-105 half rounds on.
15.
Ok now you've raised the profile of the wiki it may get used more. I'd be happy to put my website sticky stuff in there as it would be easier than wading through the whole thread. However it seems tad off kilter to say you havn't made it user friendly because no one is using it ... Your egg is coming before you chicken somewhat there ...
Good man - the more stuff thats on there the more it will get used. As for the egg, I laid it when I copied the stuff from bassworld but no chickens went and sat on it. A lot of the empty pages relate to stickys on the main site - its just the stuff has never been copied.
16. You have been a busy boy. Presume the Roscoe has gone in the other direction.
17. I have updated the wiki to make it a bit more useful. Have a look http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/
18. I dont always flame
19. copied to wiki - links dont work?
20. Quite - thats the whole point of the wiki. And the search facility is pants I agree (although it does not help if the mods remove what you are looking for). And the wiki does not cover all the options but it will only do so if people start adding the answers they get to the wiki.
21.
Only just looked at the Wiki (although I've known it's there for some time). In principal it's a great idea. BUT I think there's a major overlap with the sticky threads in that anything useful tends to be there at the top of each board. In other words, I would use it but the stuff I want is usually in sticky threads.
Yes there is some duplication but the sticky threads can get a bit messy. Presentation wise the wiki is much more flexible it just takes some effort to extract the relevant bits from the threads. It does not really matter where you put it if people cannot be arsed to look for it.
22. I've set up something on the wiki - anyone who has got an endorsement can PM me the deal they got and what was expected in return and I will anonymously stick the details in there.
23.
maybe we need a concentrated effort of sorts to at least start thinking about getting it completed.
Yes - and we are all waiting for someone else to do it.
24.
Oh dear You sound a tad upset mate. Cheer up There's some good stuff in there but it does need a bit of work to make it more like an FAQ than a stream of consciousness. If it was arranged like an FAQ it would certainly work better to answer the common questions, get used more and cut down the repetition.
Not really upset but I did not want to waste my time. I've hacked it around a bit to make it look better but everyone else needs to chip in with their experience - thats how wiki's work.
