1.
Stop me if this is heading in the direction of audiophile shouting and posturing, but directional cable is a nonsense which can be explained by marketing departments but not by the laws of physics. Whether it's bass>>>amp or amp>>>cab, the current is AC which means it goes both ways down the cable. Fortunately we don't seem to have as much bullshit aimed at us as audiophiles do - some of the stuff they will buy is jaw-dropping. CD demagnetiser, anyone? http://sound.westhost.com/cables.htm
Just cos I told him what it meant does not mean it makes sense.
2. It usually means connect in the direction of the arrow, e.g. bass ---> amp ---> send ---> return ---> cab etc. Sometimes in hifi world it is indicated by the writing on the cable.
3. Are you making sure you wind the strings down the tuner post. By that I mean each wrap round the post is below the previous. It looks like you are but cant really tell from the pictures.
4. Nice.
5. £2k is a reasonable budget so have a trawl through the for sales on here. There's loads of stuff. If you are only ever going to play at home then you dont need loads of watts but should look for tone, but if you do think you are gonna gig at sometime then maybe look at something that can gow with your ambition.
6. Even if the cables do make a difference are you gonna notice once animal starts bashing away. I dont think you can go wrong with Neutrik and Van Damme and spending more is probably wasting your money. I bet studio's and PA companies dont use exotic cables - probably use mains cables for speaker leads - I know we have on the PA for the last 27 years.
7. I think the cables supplied by OBBM are as much as is reasonable to spend. I played for years with a keyboard player who used really cheap cables and he did have a really awful sound.
8.
(assuming it doesn't slip down it )
Thats the main reason - something could make it fall. The other reason is that you are putting a force on the neck it was not designed for - that why god invented guitar stands.
9. Leaving basses leaning against a wall is not a great idea. Have a look at the Hipshot tree's like mine.
10.
drill right through the headstock and use a long shafted bolt with a washer and nut on the back side of the headstock...
That will work but its not particularly elegant. It must need the tree otherwise it would not have pulled out. You must have really high tension flats on it to do that. How is your tuning?
11. I would be inclined to have a word with Mike.
12. The main advantage of speakons is it stops numpties connecting their cabs up with signal leads. Other than that they are just the same as jacks except they twist to lock so they cant be pulled out. And no you cant put extra cabs on using jacks. Min load is the same whether using jacks or speakons.
13. The EBS Microbass II would do the job as well but again not cheap.
14. Cant believe nobody has snapped this up. In the first photo it looks like the finish has worn away and this might be putting people off. It is probably a trick of the light and the flame but it might be worth taking better pictures.
15. BassDirect is in Kenilworth just south of Brum. He has some Bergatino Neo stuff coming in that looks very sexy. Other than that there is overwater at Carlisle. Both have sponsored forums. RM basses had Dr Bass cabs but I think he is only a little north of London.
16. Many are going to be lighter than the MB210 traveller (epi UL112, EBS Neo 112, Genz Neox 112T) and I suspect they will all sound better. I think the MB cabs are not as good as the heads which is why so many MB users only have the heads and some sellers only stock the heads. AS for trying in Yorkshire I think you are gonna have to travel but I dont know what the state of retail is up there.
17. In the context of the intent of the OP it is most of all the cost of premises and staff that makes business in this country so expensive. How much do you think the Bass Centre shop in the city costs. Thats the City of London, just outside the square mile, probably the most expensive place in the world apart from Wall St.
18. EU politics should be in the other thread - strangely quiet. Perhaps the OP did not comprehend the title he gave the thread or his post.
19. and EBS and Genz Benz and EA. There are lots of lightweight options.
20. YMMV I used a T-Max head into 2x2x10's for years with no probs. This rig would have been £800 when new and current. You need a 4ohm extension cab for full beans.
21. +1 to all that - sounds better from the horses mouth.
22. If it is a black widow it it likely to be on the heavy side because they have higher power handling. There is more to light weight cabs than neo speakers i'm afraid.
23. I am an old fashioned soul who believes music should have rhythm and melody. If you cant hum it, it is not a tune and if it is not a tune then it becomes a random selection of notes, sometimes played very fast and with great technical ability, but it is not music.
24. Silverfoxnik had one. I'e got a 4 string but its no GB.
25.
You're right, eurosceptics are steadfast fools and have been for decades. Getting great service from Thomann doesn't make them fools. Just a little bit more foolish.
Sorry boy you are talking out of your arse. British taxpayers like me have been paying all our working lives for the priviledge of supporting the EU - and in my case that is longer than you have been alive. Even the EU's own cooked books, that have not been signed off by an auditor for years cos they are so crooked show that. The good service you get from Thomman, The Gallery, Bass Merchant, Bass Direct, Mansons etc, or the lack of service you get from GAK, Bass Centre, Sound Control etc has got f*** all to do with it.
