1. So why does getting great service from Thomman make eurosceptics fools?
2. stuff and nonsense. The reason Thomman are so cheap is because they got a massive EU grant to set up in the former GDR, as indeed did Warwick. And who paid for it - the british taxpayer. Everything is so expensive in the UK because everything is so expensive. Would you work for former GDR wages? The stuff you order from GAK has to be delivered by vans running on expensive british diesel that is taxed to arseholes to pay for the EU and benefits. The price of diesel affects the price of everything. As the only european economy based on property ownership the UK will always be out of step with europe.
3. They have got to be the right kind of heavy duty cabinet castors. They will reduce coupling with the floor and that may be a good thing as some of us have spent £50 on a Gramma Pad to do that. They may induce instability in the cab if they are not all level (four wheels on the floor). This is a bad thing because the cab can move in the opposite direction to the speakers (Newtons First Law). If you are worried stick the castors on the side. That way you can wheel it in then turn onto the proper feet for use.
4. No. I wish there was a way to ignore crap like this. There is some cool stuff on YouTube like The Ox isolated bass and Jamerson but bedroom w***ers do nothing for me. Can he entertain people for an evening like ian at his Motown revue. I know what I think.
5.
Why not try a Behringer BDI21 (sansamp clone)?
Yes. Putting more crap in the signal path is gonna help loads.
6.
Half the retail price is a good starting point
Sounds about right.
7. Cant believe nobody snatched your hand off for this.
8. Get this http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12024&hl=
9.
If in three hundred years there's no such thing as a bass guitar, but something else is playing the low notes, why does that matter?
There will still be Led Zep tribute bands - same as we are still playing Mozart now.
10. What he ^^^ said - otherwise there would just be guitar and bass cabs rather than dedicated cabs for both.
11.
I also think that true modern musical innovation hasn't ever resulted from the invention or radical physical change of an instrument (in the common sense of the word)! Again, exciting music is about the whole, not the individual parts.
Beg to differ. In 1951 Leo Fender changed the world of popular music.
12. You may find a few on here that have not been impressed with MAG reliability and recon the ABM is much better (but also dearer). There are 3 combo's that are head and shoulders above almost all of the competition. SWR Redhead Eden Metro EBS NeoGorm There are also f***ing expensive mind but you wont find yourself wanting more after 6 months.
13.
I sort of agree, there isn't much happening at the moment in the bass world that warrants jaws dropping.
There is not much happening in music not just bass playing.
14. Welcome fellow GB user
15.
is it me or are the mike dantonio and the paul romanko signatures the same but with a different colour scheme?
No. The volume knob is in a different place
16.
Did someone laugh at your 9 string last night or something? ;0)
Laugh - I nearly sh*t.
17. As is said in the thread Nik posted, wou are better having all 10's or all 12's. I would be tempted to pop up the road and have a listen to what Mark at BassDirect has to offer.
18. How about a DHA valve compressor?
19. BOCD Use it or sell it. DOnt just look at it.
20. Anyone thinking of bidding should email bernie with a link to the auction (the link is on his website) and ask him to check it is a handmade rather than one of the mass produced Goodfellows.
21. There was another recent thread about playing around the beat that should be read in conjunction with this. Locking in with the kick drum is not the only fruit and this aspect of being a musician is more important than having the chops and is totally under-estimated by bedroom players and you tube chop monsters (male and female).
22. And dont forget Czech has a long history of making stringed instruments.
23. I could not get on with the ER20's and went back to foam as they were more comfortable but did mess with the sound. I went for the full on moulded jobbies and they are great. I need the full 25db cos my ears are totally f***ed but if you are not already suffering then the 15db will probably do OK. What you have to ask yourself young Finbar is how much is your hearing worth? I would suggest a lot more than £160.
24. Had a bit of a bash at Bass Direct with some lightweight (even the Bergantino compared to a full fat 4x10) cabs. See here
25. There is a great sticky on this with pictures and everything. Look at it.
