1. Must admit that I think these schools are not quite rock and roll, not at all rock and roll in fact. Once upon a time music college was only available to classical musicians amd I guess these offer an alternative for more proletarian instruments but where are all the gigs going to be for all these sh*t hot, sight read anything bass players. They will end up flipping burgers in Macdonalds like most graduates.
2. What exactly is the problem with just turning down the input gain on the amp to compensate for the hot output? If you use more than one bass then I can see you would have a problem and would want to reduce the output like I did. You could use something like an EBS Microbass II or the programmable BDDI if you use more than one basses. The only other problem would be the difference between silence and too much might leave too little useful range of settings on the input gain.
3. Sorry guys, but more watts does f*** all to the sensitivity of the input stage.
4. Most amps have 2 controls for volume. One controls the level going in and is near the input and is often labelled gain. The other controls the level going out and is normally located after the tone controls and is labelled volume or master. The gain should be set as high as possible and lots of amps have clip indicators and a few even have vu meters so you can get it just right. The signal should be as high as possible to keep the signal to noise ratio high. The volume control should control the volume. The number of watts you have will only affect the volume. If you have a super hot output though all you end up doing is reducing the gain to compensate. I had one of by GB's output reduced cos it was so much hotter than my other basses. What 18v gives you is more powerful EQ, so if you turn the EQ up then you need to turn the volume on your bass down to compensate.
5.
Have you decided on a refinish on that P yet?
I wouldn't. Nice set up BTW.
6. More w***ery - bet none of them can play a twelve bar As for the strings - this lot were quite normal but lets leave it there.
7. You are hooked
8. I think you should keep the swiss army knife of bass. If you dont need it for the next rig you might want it for the one after that.
9. Status and GB Rumours achieve the same results with 2 strap buttons. Like this
10. Bernies shop should have a health warning outside. I went there to try the little Neo's when they first became available. Just look at my sig to see the results!
11. Whatever gig bags Warwick put their T-bird shaped and Buzzard basses in would be a good place to start.
12. Nothing on the EBS site yet but one online seller has them cheaper than the HD350! I recon they are getting it mixed up with the old classic pre-amp.
13. There is no right or wrong. Some like 5 or more, some stick to four.
14. I dont use effects (only volume) but I have always believed that good individual effects are better than multi units where you dont use half of what is available and the quality of the effects you do use is not as good. Lets face it - if multi units were that great nobody would have a pedalboard.
15. Looks like it is trying to look like a proper one to me. It has got SGC Nanyo plastered all over it but it is not quite right. The cover over the control cavity is slightly different and the real ones have MADE IN JAPAN. Mine has GOTOH stamped on the back of the tuners and the bridge is different.
16. Beeps is getting a load of free bumps mind.
17. You are right and I have deleted all my other posts in this thread. Sloppy selling can undermine the value of a brand (as seen by some of the other comments) and when it is a brand I have invested considerable dosh in it winds me up. You are gonna invest a lot of money in this brand as well.
18. He was recently seen playing with Siouxie on Jools with the same bass.
19. I am sure the pinned thread on impedence has the formula for calculation but I can't be bothered to look. This keeps getting asked. The cab with the higher impedence will get less power and unless it has higher sensitivity will probably be inaudible. However, if the frequency respose peaks where the other cab dips it may smooth out the overall sound. The only way anyone can tell is to use both cabs together and that means you will have to decide for yourself whether it sounds better/louder/whatever.
20. I think there was a long thread on this back on the old bassworld. Cocktail sticks and PVA was the conclusion I believe. Drilling/dowelling is a lot more work.
21. With GAK down the road doing the same for £499 and £675. I would pay a bit more to get a better service than GAK - but not that much!
22. Check the neck relief by looking down the neck from the headstock. Some say the neck should be dead straight while others say it to should have a slight bow away from the strings. This can be adjusted using the truss rod. If the relief is OK try raising the bridge saddle. It may be harder to fret but a super low action is not always achievable or desirable. If you think the strings are dodgy try a new set. Old Git is from Cardiff.
23. Have you tried the search facility. I'm sure there are some posts on this.
24. A fair selection. All the heads plus Pro-line, Neo-line and Classic cabs, Gorm and Drome combos and rumour has it the new all bottle Classic 450 head. Since he moved the workshop there is a lot more room for display.
