1. Doesn't anyone read a thread before posting? The OP already has a top of the range Ibanez.
2. I've no problem if the OP wants to downgrade to a Fender - he should not feel he has to because of the music he plays.
3. It could have been worse - you might have asked who James Jamerson was.
4. Stevie Wonder has two bass players - the other one was Jamerson. Nathan Watts played on all the great albums of the 70's.
5.
Everyone know I'm going to say this, so here goes - Jon Shuker www.shukerguitars.co.uk
I was gonna say there are other builders - but seeing as the guy is in Leeds there is not much point
6. If you can afford it the EBS Microbass II is supposed to be loads better than the BDDI.
7. Quality US made basses. Boz Burrell used them in Bad Co.
8.
Just in the process of getting a new band together, so am back 'off the road' temporarily.. but I'll advertise on MySpace when we are gonna tear up the countryside!
What happened to your old band Dood - did you scare them off with your 7 stirng
9. There are a number of threads and stickys that explain all this. I cant be arsed to find them.
10. I admire you enthusiasm and passion Ross and would love to hear some great music made on an ERB. I think this is the one thing that is lacking as none of what I have heard has moved me, but then maybe i'm too old to be movable. Just got the Ellington Never No Lament set with some of the original Ellington/Blanton duets and that moved me mind. I know ERB's have only been around 15 years but by the time the 4 string had been around 15 years Jamerson was showing the world what it could do and The Ox had recorded My Generation. I think what QOTD said about extending up invites people to say it might as well be played on guitar and I think the answer to that is that it sounds different. But if the bass player is playing the guitar part on his ERB who is playing the bass and I guess this is where having more than 1 bass player comes in Perhaps this is a plan for world domination where bands will have to have 2 bass players and 1 guitarist.
11. Not the clearest labelling but I am guessing it means: - use the speakon and daisychain = min 2 ohms. - use the jacks = min 4 ohm each jack. What happens if you plug 1 4ohm cab to speakon and 1 to jack I have know idea Like Bill says you could RTFM - assuming it makes any more sense or indeed if you have one.
12. No I think you have a problem and should give me all those crappy old basses of yours and get something modern.
13. On reflection it was a bit of a sweeping statement and Bernies pups are probably made by Kent/Aaron same as most of the others. And not everyones electronics are made by East. But as Bernie himself said when he was selling me the idea of having one built - if you get a bass built with Barts its probably gonna sound similar to all the other basses with Barts (or EMG/Basslines/Whatever). If you get a GB its gonna sound like a GB. Some love it - some dont. Most people that have heard mine love it. I think thats what I was trying to say.
14.
I wish i still had mine........had to sell it few months back . Still too upset to talk about it ! :-(
Presume you tried selling body parts first?
15. Having an 8 ohm and 4 ohm cab connected in parallel (assuming the speaker outs are parallel - some of the eden stuff is series but then you can always daisy chain the cabs) will give you an overall impedence of 3 ohms so you should be OK. However, the 1x15 4 ohm cab will still get twice the beans of the 8 ohm cab and if the Peavey is a Black Widow these have quite high sensitivity as well. What this means is that you might hardly hear an 8ohm 2x10. A 4ohm Peavey 2x10 would seem to be the answer. They do come up quite often and are cheap as chips.
16. Nice one! Cant make my mind up about the snot green plate though
17. Sexsational!
18. Welcome to basschat Not a big user of effects myself but as it appears that the problem is the DI out on the Orange I can make 2 suggestions. 1.Stick a mike in front of the cab and forget the DI. 2.Get a DI box and split the signal: bass-->distortion-->DI-->Amp and take the PA feed from the DI box.
19. EBS Microbass II - only £300
20. Check with the distributer - GB Guitars in Brighton.
21. How did it go using the 1x12/2x12 together?
22. I used my afore mentioned 2x2x10's with a T-max. Great amp. The pre amp valve was really cool cos it had a pre and post gain so you could really fine tune how hard the valve was driven. Probably getting quite hard to find now.
23. There is more to Music TV than MTV. What about Kerang TV? What time is the Death Metal slot?
24. Why cant you use the Ibanez to play Jazz and Funk? Whats not versatile about two pups and a 3 band active with mid sweep? The only thing that might concern me is the Barts.
25. Calm down Ross - I know you are excited about your 9 string. But I think the clips posted so far indicate the real problem with ERBs - all the music made on them that gets posted on You Tube is rubbish. Plus the fact that you are gonna listen to it on headphones or crappy PC speakers and its gonna sound even more rubbish. That Death Metal sounded like normal metal just two octaves lower - and did they have 2 bass players? Whatever! On my 'phones it sounded like sludge.
