1.
I've got adjusters on 4 basses, just wish I had them on my other.
This is also my experience. I have had them fitted on at least 4 basses, none of which suffered. I think properly fitted adjusters are well worth having.
2. Looks great! Enjoy.
3. Great news! Enjoy the reunion :-)
4. Thanks Floyd. I will order that now. ....also a massive +1 for the Tarlton Sevcik and scales books.
5. Great idea. Where did you buy it? I can only find the solo tuning edition online. I guess it doesn't matter if its just practice material. Cheers Geoff
6.
I am still interested
+1
7. Yes, I used to own one and it was very poor. The mixer was a rebadged AKG if I remember rightly. The pup sounded rubbish and the mic didn't work that well.
8. I have played this and it's a great bass!
9.
Great interview wih Lee here : http://www.performing-musician.com/pm/may08/articles/leepomeroy.htm
I love this. Thanks for sharing!
10.
Spoke to the main man and he is a Frenchy so a French it will be
Enjoy! I have loved learning to use the bow.
11. this is AMAZING. What the internet was invented for :-)
12.
I have a two-tier system. For rehearsing I use a small holdall to carry all the bits and bobs i think I might need just for rehearsals - a few spares of stuff like strings, instrument leads, extension lead plus small folding stand etc. For gigs I have a larger holdall that I put the smaller one inside plus all the extra stuff I think I need for gigging - extra leads, gaffa tape, more extension leads, little tool kit, more strings, towel etc.
That's a great idea. Anything that means I can carry the least amount of gear whilst having everything I need is worth doing. My bits are divided between my cab cover pocket and a silver box which also has my Acoustic Image amp head in.
13. Yeh I completely agree with playing whatever bow your teacher does. There are advantages and disadvantages to both but the main thing is having a teacher who can show you how to use it. I use German as my teachers did, but if they had used French pattern I would have gone that way. ....Of course once you are up and running you will be able to make a more informed choice and may find one pattern more suited to your playing than the other.
14. This is an incredible deal! I can't play 6 string but for the right person this is amazing.
15. I used one years ago and it was rubbish. Much happier with the full circle I have now.
16. Anything by Leon Bosh will hit the spot.
17.
It amazes me how much range the upright can cover when played by him, deep lows up to almost violin like tones, beautiful!
I was really lucky studying for 2 years at the RNCM. My Main teacher was Roberto Carillio-Garcia (principle bassist with the Halle), but I also had extra lessons with Jirji Hudec (principle bassist with the Czech Philharmonic) and Bozo Paradzik (world class soloist). It was so inspiring to hear the incredible tone that all of my teachers were able to draw from the bass. The colours and expression were truly humbling. They were also inspiring people who's love of music and energy was endless.
18. Thanks for the recent endorsements for my bass lessons in Leeds, it's great to have the feedback. It's been a busy year and I have been lucky enough to have some great bassists starting to study with me, both on bass guitar and double bass. I'm really excited about the lessons progressing and improving in 2013. I hope you all have a fantastic holiday, wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year. Cheers Geoff
19. A friend I used to study with had a westbury and I liked it. Simple, but well made. Not amazing sound but good for the price if well set up.
20.
@geoffbassist Should be 15/20 years hold. I bought it in Italy in a violin maker shop.
was it sold as an Italian bass?
21.
I've edited my add. Thanks for the interest!
Do you know a rough age and which country it was made in?
22. Great rig! I used the GK combo for years and you still can't beat it for weight and size. With the extension it sounded even better. I also love obligatos and often think about revisiting them. I think they sound great when they are new. Also lovley under the bow. A lot of people didn't like the string roll but I actually quite liked it. 5-8 mm is a great string hight and I'm guessing it means your bass is set up really well. Are you happy with the Shen?
23. My old teacher Jirji Hudec won this. It's great to see and hear a younger version of him sounding so good. There are so many amazing players, what an incredible event!
24. ...what's your bass set up 4ropebottom?
25. Its an 100 year old german factory bass which has had a new front and neck. It's got a very focused sound so works really well amplified. The AI Clarus is a great little head and I love it for upright with the EA wizzy, Mline cab. It can get very loud but is small enough to fit into tight spaces, so I can use the same rig on all my gigs. I use an extra regular wizzy 12" cab when im on bass guitar and the clarus is ok for that, but not my favourite head for bass guitar. For DB though I love it.
