It's crazy. If I spent 2K on anything I would want to ask a few questions and expect a reasonable reply. Especialy if there's discrepancies in the description.

This is the objection I don't understand. If it's only visible to existing bc members, it'll be the same bunch of people, discussing a common interest in the same bc tone we know and love. It's not rebranding to bassandguitarchat.co.uk! What's this effect it will have on the rest of the place?

I guess as long as its only bassists talking about guitar and not actual guitarists it's ok ;-)
God forbid we get any actual guitarists joining! :-)
If there's a big demand then fair enough.
Again, I really do love guitar. I'm just happy with basschat as it is.

As others have pointed out, it would simply be a subforum that you never visit. Not sure I understand the problem.
There seem to be enough people keen on the idea to at least consider it, surely.

I'm not saying don't consider it, but that my view is against. If there's a big demand then perhaps there should be a guitar section.
I understand where you are coming from. I just think that to keep a website focused and specialist you need to draw a line.
I also get that we could just ignore part of the site that we dont use (like for a lot of people the double bass section). What worries me is that adding a guitar section would have a general impact on the whole.
I don't have anything at all against guitarists. I just love basschat as is :-)

You have your own Double Bass and EUB sub-forum don't you?
Sure that's fair comment. It's all about where you draw the line. Obviously no one wants something none music related. I think double bass and bass guitar are similar enough. I don't think that guitar is. There other subjects that lie closely like PA, music tech, backing vocals etc.... I think they are best placed in off topic.
It's not that it's guitar, its that it's not bass related. There's enough room in off topic to bring it up. I would feel the same about a cars, violin, hamsters or clothes sub forum.
If there's a gap in the market I think it would be a great idea for someone to set one up.
Why dont people who want a guitar ( or banjo,tuba...whatever) just go to a relevant guitar forum. That way people who want a bass forum can go to a bass forum, not a 'bass with a bit of guitar' forum.
Say no to basschatwithabitogguitar.co.uk!

Nice report Bilbo... great to hear you're progressing, when I am in the busy season with my bread and butter gig we often to 5 sets a day (daytime) and then on to another 2x45 sets in the evening. During those periods, my strength becomes mammoth... there is no substitute for doing it!
Wow. 7 sets. You must be knackered Jake :-)
Great to see you doing so well Bilbo hope 2012 brings you another great year for double bass.
There's an even easier way to get a bass onto the passenger seat. Just fully recline the passenger seat and put the bass in the car spike first. Lay it (flat on its back) on the seat with neck pointing to footwell. It's properly supported (no pressure on neck) and you could even strap it in. Should go in a Clio fine.
I'm on a run of gigs tonight. 1st using upright, 2nd electric. I've got both basses, head, 2x 1-12" cabs, stand, suit bag in my VW polo.
To be fair it's FULL, but u can easily get upright into almost any car.
Just use a cloth. Wipe towards the bridge to avoid getting on the rest of the strings. Don't use the same cloth to wipe the rest of the strings down (if your hands sweat).
It's also worth doing before you put it in it's case to avoid getting rosin on the inside.
Hi Guys,
I've been really busy recently with the Christmas gig run. January is a quiet time so if you want to come and have a bass guitar or double bass lesson please get in touch.
Why not get some new ways to approach your playing for the new year.
Geoff
