You could get lucky and find a Ritter Roya 5 for that much. easily the best bass I have ever played or heard. Its a lot of money but its a helluva lot of bass too!

I dont think you are missing any wires. That cap looks wrong, shouldn't one leg be attached to the input of the volume pot and the other leg to the middle lug of the tone pot.

I don't even know how to describe this!

I'll describe it for you in that case - they are answers to a question no one ever asked! -

Not everything about the bass is great .....

+1! I'll take boring but appropriate any day over over-played and distrascting. Victor Wooten always springs to my mind when it comes to "too busy". Sure he's a virtuoso but when playing for other bands he should know how to tone it down - see Marcus Miller for how to do this correctly. -

Yep, I hate Ted Nugent(to the point where I believe he is actually mentally ill re his stance on gun control) but Stranglehold is a great song. The bass line really holds the song together and allows Ted the room to deliver his killer solo. He's still a tw@ though! -

So you want to setup the intonation on your bass? Thats a pity...
-
Yeah I got me a lovely Weller soldering station which is just the ticket. Heats up super quick and temp is easily adjusted.
-
Yes, this is the way to go - a tip with a higher thermal mass is really useful for tranferring the heat. You can also add a blob of solder to the tip to really help things along. Most important though is to use a good quality flux to clean the component legs and PCB tags and again this also helps transfer heat.

Otis, can you confirm, do you mean the buzz is present from the 14th fret to the 21st fret(or however many frets your bass has) or from the 1st fret to the 14th? If it's 14-21 then it will be the action at the bridge you need to adjust not the relief in the neck. If it's 1-14 then you will need to check if the buzzing is occuring on the nut side of the note that you are fretting or the body side. If the buzzing is towards the nut(ie. behind the note you are playing) then the action at the nut is too low. If the buzzing is occuring towards the body(ie in front of the note you are playing) then increasing the relief in the neck will help. good luck
