    thanks guys. I have feeler gauges so if you want to advise a measurement for the action at the nut that would be great thanks. re. the La Bella's I may have to check these out as currently the saddles on my bridge are as low as they can go but action is higher than I would like so these strings may be the answer im looking for otherwise a shim under the neck may have to suffice. Could you be so kind as to show a photo of how they sit on your bridge.

    Hi Everyone, Just purchased my first fretless and whilst I consider myself very capable of doing a full setup on a fretted bass(thank you john Caruthers) im not sure how best to setup a fretless in order to acheive the lowest possible action without buzzing. Ive read that a straigh neck ie no relief is best for fretless? Obviously intonation will be the same as a fretted and easy enough given my fretless is lined. However I would be keen to hear your thought re. action at the nut and any other tips. Would you guys only ever use flats on a fretless? cheers Chris

    Just had a listen to the YouTube vids of these basses and all I can say is I am very very surprised no one has snapped this up! Seems a real no brainer for this money!

    Thanks Lowdown that's very interesting to read. I am absolutely keen to hear stuff like this as there isn't always reliable info that's readily available when researching these artists early in their careers. For sure Marcus is best known for his slap style but really has so much more to offer than that not just in his fretless and fingerstyle grooves but as a writer and composer. Not to mention his sax playing. Similarly I don't hear any Jaco in his playing but I'm sure Jaco did have at least some influence on Marcus as I'm sure he covers Teen Town on one of his solo albums...

    Yeah but you are making a ridiculously sweeping and vague statement. Marcus was already a session player before Jaco was in Weather Report so Marcus WAS before Jaco HAD reached his most influential. By all means have a different opinion but be prepared to back it up with logic and or facts

    Bingo! Indeed 99.95% of the people on this planet will have precisely zero idea who Jaco, Marcus Miller or Victor Wooten are. Therefore they are all useless nobodies with no talent whatsoever!

    wow that's a stretch. One Direction are very "popular" yet not sure they have any critical acclaim, influence on musicians or longevity. You get the idea... actually maybe you don't...
