Sandberg 5 String California on Gumtree
dyerseve replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I did a Google image search and no other Sandberg California has the jack on the front. Pups, bridges, machine heads, string retainers all available as spares from Sandburg. Something about this seems very fishy so I am leaving alone. -
Sandberg 5 String California on Gumtree
dyerseve replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I was just about to purchase this but now I am unsure... -
I made my own and I'm no mechanic.

Found a bit of nice light pine wood the right thickness from an old posh wine box
Measured the size I needed to go on bass.
Sawed wood to size
Bought sandpaper sheet and stick it to INSIDE of a dustbin to roughly approximate the fingerboard /strings curvature
Rubbed block of wood against sandpaper until one surface convexly curved
Attacked all part of ramp with finer bits of sandpaper
Checked it fitted
Finish with paint or oil to taste
Attach with doublesided Sellotape
Or get someone to make one, don't know who
would be much harder to work clear plastic as the OP requested. I am guessing that the OP wants a completely transparent ramp which i think would be really difficult to produce as a DIY effort without it ending up looking like a dogs dinner. Maybe check on ebay if there are people who can produce a custom mould for you as I believe to get a pro finish it would need to be injection moulded. I could be completely wrong though, it's happened before!
Misinterpreted...I was looking to swap the pickup around (a la the Mark Hoppus signature bass). The 'bass side' E&A stays where it is, the 'treble side' D&G goes closer the to the neck, where in theory the different position gives the strings different tonal characteristics. I had a EH Black Finger compressor; a bit Emporer's New Clothes to me. May investigate a Boss BC-1X.
If you see Grangur's post below this one I am quoting, that was the rationale I was using when I made my suggestion. I really think this is your best bet.
Tried everything, pretty much! Different amp/cab combinations, different pre-stages, balanced set strings (and so on). It's not my main bass, but I love to use it. I was considering getting a new scratchplate so I could reverse the pickups, but that would involve getting the chisels out. It just hit me that I could try a VVT set up and retrofit a stackknob pot to have some independency over each side of the strings. I had an old Fender P and that suffered as well...D&G were too quiet/lost.
couldnt you just reverse the pickup by extending the wires between the two halves(and probably the output wires as well) so no chisels would have to be involved?

Anyone in/around Birmingham able to set up a bass for me?
dyerseve replied to Harryburke14's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm in Sedgley but work in Tipton. If that is close for you drop me a PM and i will sort you out. -
That one didn't sell by the look of it. Well not on eBay at least. Probably a deal was done outside of ebay.

Just so people have all the info there are 7 different Sire models Scott is giving away. Most expensive is a 5 string beauty with a retail of 799.
Yamaha makes great basses. I've always wondered why they don't have a larger market share. Blue
I would hazard a guess that Yamaha probably lead the world in sales of bass guitars

MEC Active Pickups - Ground to Bridge?
dyerseve replied to Bearfist's topic in Repairs and Technical
Best to double check on the red wires as the red on my Streamer pre is connected to the positive of the 9V battery. Where is the battery currently connected to? Re. The ground wire from the bridge, that can be connected to almost any other ground point in the circuit but yes, it does need to connected. -
Can't believe no one has mentioned the Yamaha TRBJP or TRBJP2!?!? Truly stunning instruments in every respect!

I hope so but surely eBay is the best place to check They have a fee calculator you can use...

The title of this thread makes me wonder what some one will post if they happen to break a nut... 😉

I clicked on this thread thinking somebody had shipped a Status bass packaged only in string... How very dissapointed I am!

MTD 635 24 Custom Flamed Myrtle
dyerseve replied to SephaldaSimorangkir's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I dont know any bass players off the top of my head that play MTD. Which is strange given that their top level instruments are rather pricey. I would have absolutely no idea what an MTD is supposed to sound like. Compare that to say Fodera, Warwick, Fender, Sadowsky, Pedulla, Rickenbacker etc. and you see where I am going with this... -
The business card does the job, but i like to use several tools when doing my setups I use feeler gauges, understring Radius Gauges, and astring action ruler
I was half expecting a joke about G Strings and feelers in there, very dissapointed....
-
You may be thinking of feeler gauges; a set of very thin metal 'shims' of various thicknesses which slide between the string and the fretboard. Here's a pic...
These can be had cheaply from screwfix or ebay and I think they are vital to getting your bass setup as well as possible. I also live by this guys guide to setting up your bass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te44eWXd9pc&t=24s

I really love the look of it and it certainly seems to have had plenty of time and effort put in to the build as well as qualty materials, hardware etc. When you look at the price some of the exotic/boutique bases change hands for these days I dont think the price is too unrealistic except that it is missing the name like Fodera or Ritter.
Finally bit the bullet and got around the stripping my bass and sanding down the body. Luckily the blemishes were only in the lacquer which were removed after sanding down with a 1500 and 2000 grit sandpaper. I used Dartford's satin clear lacquer which created the desired finish. I also upgraded the hardware to gold as an homage to an FNA Jazzman i once saw. I'm still contemplating whether the nut upgrade is worth it though. Also, any sources for gold neck screws and pickup switches would be greatly appreciated! And advice on the control knob fitments, currently they are not sitting flush, is it a simple ase of useing a narrower nut to secure the pot?
Drop me a PM, I can almost certainly help with the gold screws - they are from Warwick btw! I might also be able to loan you a brass just-a-nut as well for you to try.
