Hohner "The Jack" - £199 at Cash converters
dyerseve replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
"frets have been removed - does not affect the performance of the item" mmmmmwwwwwwhhhhhhhaaaaaaatttttttttt??????????? -
Being relatively rubbish at anything technical I don`t know if my fretboard is laquered or not. Aaaarrrrgggg!
Does it look like mine in the photos above or does it look like the rest of the neck on your bass which I presume is also maple. if the latter then it's lacquered, if the former, it is not lacquered
-
a damp microfibre cloth should work fine with no risk of damage. perhaps a drop of fairy liquid could be added if no joy at first. might require a bit of rubbing but will get there in the end...
If you put oil on any lacquered surface, it doesn't soak in it simply lays on the surface until you wipe it off. You could argue that it's no different to using water on the surface in as much as it acts to help lift the dirt and helps the cloth to collect it. So you may as well use water and detergent, which is cheaper. Furthermore the lemon oil won't mix with detergent, so you can't use it with the oil as a cleaning agent. I'm not saying it will do any harm. If you're happy to use it the same as wiping it over with a damp cloth, then that's your choice. It's more expensive than water, but some will say it smells nicer.
I believe Lozz was referring to Bolo's comment above about using lemon oil on unlacquered maple fretboards. I am not sure why you wouldnt be able to use it on unlacquered maple fretboards TBH but then I have never tried it...
Ash? This does really look like it could be mahogany to me. I see no resemblance to ash.
I think it is the weird finish that fools people in to thinking it's ash body. But all those fancy swirls are just the paint underneath the lacquer, not a wood grain.
Except for the lemon oil. Danish oil sure, gunstock oil better, Dr Duck's. Axwax is cool. No lemon oil on unlaquered maple please, it can leave unsightly stains.
yeah sorry guys, i only had one maple fretboard and I refinished it using Danish Oil. Ive now ammended my post above. So used to using Lemon Oil... This mis what my fretboard looked like after I stripped the lacquer and applied Danish Oil:

Dodgy? 1966 Jazz Bass listing on Evilbay
dyerseve replied to Roger2611's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
reported to ebay. even if it's not fraudulent it will be pulled due to his email add in the listing -
Why is the centre section of the body un-coloured and stripy, when it's a bolt-on neck (that isn't stripy)?
Window dressing. Not an uncommon thing for Matsumoku basses from this period. also happened with the set necks. I think it looks good.
Further to my earlier post, the fundamental problem with event ticket selling is that original promoters dont let the market set the price - they sell them at a fixed price (generally below their true value) and then various middle men come in and pocket the difference. The obvious solution is for the event promoters to hold an auction for tickets in the first place, this way the promoters and the act themselves get the benefit of the true market value of the tickets rather than middle men.
im not sure that is a solution as the touts will just by the tickets via the auctions instead.

Its a bass guitar, no need to be too prcecious about what kind of cloth you clean it with. As Grangur says, damp microfibre cloth(any old one will do - i use the same one I use to wipe down my kitchen worktops with), with a dab of fairy liquid. Be prepared to be disgusted by how much grime comes off! You will need to do it several times before you get the fretboard properl clean and obviously just use a different part of the cloth each time. If the fretboard isnt lacquered then using ultrafine steelwool will shift the dirt much much easier and faster. Be aware though you will need to cover the body of the bass so none of the steelwool gets in to the electronics or pups. Using the steelwool also has the advantage that you can polish the frets at the same time. Afterwards, vacuum up the steelwool dust, wipe down with a damp cloth, dry the fretboard and then apply Danish oil.
Signed. Still need 70k more signatures to get it debated though...
dude it was at 2K yesterday or day before and now it is 32K. Deadline is 10th of May so looks like we will get there easy! Positive thinking!
-
Why don't you just get the existing bass player to spend his time learning the new material! How does anyone know he isn't able play it? Seems an arse about tit way to handle the whole thing IMHO
-
Signed. 15K sigs already!
4 hrs use in 10 years. Must be a gem.
Thought that may be due to the terrible action...?

So I fitted an Aguilar OBP3 to my Status Series 1 which has the Status Hyperactive pups. It is a beast and adds a useful mid cut/boost and active/passive switching which the Status pre didnt have. One slight problem is that in passive mode, with the pups blended fully, there is a noticeable drop in volume. This is not present in active mode so nothing to do with phase AFAIK. If I solo a pup in passive volume is spot on to the active volume. The blend/balance pot is 250K. Is this normal or is this an issue that can be addressed? Any ideas please?

Well the body is a jazz body apparently. Very misleading title though. Reckon it would sound pretty decent. Those pups look the biz!
So you've never sold using PayPal and have a buyer claim it never arrived? PayPal simply refund back to the buyer out of your PayPal account. So you're down a bass and no cash. If you've already withdrawn the funds it gets billed to your bank account details or credit card.
Again, spot on mate. People seem not to realise if you are selling that the PayPal gift option is your best friend. Obviously its a different story when buying and paying by PayPal gift. You would want to do your research on the seller before parting with your hard earned. This is where the feedback section of this forum is so beneficial. A bit of commonsense also goes a long way as does picking up the phone and speaking with seller. If theres any doubt then walk away.
Am I missing something here? As I see it, ice you're buying you should only ever use PayPal ice you use the facility of telling them that you're buying goods. That way, as a buyer you are protected. If you're a seller, as our OP is, the risk with the PayPal service is when the buyer gets the bass, then tells PayPal it never arrived. PayPal then refund the money and our man looses. So, this is why we tell him to insist on the Gift method. Then the buyer doesn't have the opportunity to fleece him. Please can someone be so kind as to tell me what I'm missing?
100% correct. Which is exactly why I have been saying for the OP, or any seller, that it's ok to accept PayPal gift payment.
-
Point made. You wont have a leg to stand on in any court if you call money exchanged in a sale a gift. Sorry I had to spell it out again. Now it's your turn to calm down I think.
Umm the OP is SELLING the bass so he doesnt need to worry about it. Sorry that needs to be spelt out to you.
-
Whoosh.
Come on then, I'm still waiting for your point... if you know it all then do tell
-
Hmmm http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252025-paypal-gift-payments/
The OP is selling, therefore there is no risk to him.
-
Calm down buddy. Yes it's a sale and the PayPal gift option is just one way to transfer funds. Absolutely nothing to do with being clever and NO PayPal payment option has anything to do with HMRC. What was you point again?
