Stunning, all original, 1982 Ibanez Roadster RS824BB, with Ritter hardcase, Now only £645 shipped internationally - £595 for UK!! When I say stunning, I really mean it! Not only does this gorgeous bass have one of the most detailed and elaborate finishes I've ever seen(those swirls/figuring you see on the body are not the grain of the wood but are part the Brazilian Brown finish!) but the sound is also beyond belief! It features the highly reknowned Super P-4 and Super J-4 pickups and it is hugely versatile thanks to the twin volume and tone controls as well as the 3 way pickup selector switch. To the best of my knowledge this bass is completely original(I have fitted Schaller staplock buttons but I have kept the originals and will include these in the sale). When I took ownership it was showing signs of it's 34 years on this planet so I have given it a light restoration - bridge cleaned and polished, fretboard stripped of original finish (which had started to break up) then refinished with Danish oil, frets polished, complete setup and new D'addario strings fitted, trussrod cover cleaned and polished. Everything functions perfectly on this bass including all electronics and the trussrod. The instrument is overall in very good condition, even without taking into account it is 34 years old! There are some minor scuffs, chips in the finish, dings and scratches which I have tried my best to show in the photos below - please note that you really have to look for them to even notice them in most light conditions! The only real negatives are one chip and two cracks in either the lacquer and/or possibly the veneer on the headstock. Either way these are definitely only superficial cracks, they are not structural and in no way affect the function of the bass. Please note that my price includes an excellent Ritter hardcase and fully tracked and insured international shipping. For those from mainland UK interested please let me know and I can work out a better price due to reduced shipping costs. Collection from Sedgley, West Midlands is also available, again at reduced cost. Specs:

"Accu-Cast B" bridge with brass saddles
"Sure Grip" control knobs
Super J4 and Super P4 pickups (like the DiMarzio Model J and Model P, with individually adjustable pole pieces and HOT output)
4-Bolt neck plate with serial number
Hercules "B" heart-shaped tuners
Mahagony Body with "Brazilian Brown" finish
Maple neck and fretboard
34" Scale
40mm nut width Weight is a very manageable 4.75kg
Here is a vid of someone else playing their RS824: https://www.youtube....h?v=NSe-tbh53-c post image

love the look even though it doesnt look particularly ergonomic. look forward to your thoughts on the sound. As a fellow vintage Ibanez Roadster owner, I doubt you will be dissapointed!

Thanks but I've tried active and passive. Just realised the other common thing is my cable. Will try another later hopefully that may help though unlikely...

So I recently bought an Ashdown Five Fifteen 2 x 10" MiniRig. It works ok but there is a definite distortion to the sound once the initial note sounds out. So much so that I thought the drivers were faulty and bought a set of replacement drivers. They arrived and I duly installed them but once it came to the sound absuletly nothing has changed! The same distortion is there! I have tried different amps with both the original and New drivers and yet the distortion is still there! I'm at a loss!

Applying solder to the back of Potentiometers
dyerseve replied to essexbasscat's topic in Repairs and Technical
I use a file on mine to get down to the bare metal, then use a temperature controlled iron and good old 60/40 lead/tin solder. Works every time.
Me too with plenty of flux and temp on my Weller set to 450c with a large tip. -
Owned a German 4 string $$ for a while and thought it probably the most versatile sounding bass ever. The coil tapping options combined with active/passive options allow so many possibilities. Loved it's light weight and general ergonomics but ultimately couldn't get on with the chunky neck and flat fingerboard.

Molegrips assuming you can get them on. Otherwise a drill with a steel bit to remove the head of the stripped screw. Then undo the other screw/s, then remove the pup then use pliers or molegrips to extract the damaged screw. Did this exact thing myself recently.

Anyone changed the string spacing at the nut with a zero fret?
dyerseve replied to mcc's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm not sure what you are asking. A zero fret is just another fret close to the nut, you couldn't alter the string spacing with one. If you just want to replace the nut with one cut for a different spacing then whether the neck has a zero fret or not shouldn't make any difference.
Actually the zero but can make a difference as there can be significant groves worn in there over time and the strings might be reluctant to sit exactly how you want them to from the new nut -
My replacement bass arrived this morning Brand new in a sealed yamaha box & I have to say that I'm really impressed with it so far. Looking forward to plugging it in once I get home from work. I'm still £20 out of pocket for my original Saturday morning delivery that I paid extra for the first bass I received, guess I've lost that.
why not demand that back or at least they could send you a store credit or similar.
-
if you have paid Status to set it up for you and they failed I would demand my money back or send it back to them and tell them to do it properly this time. Same with that lutheir you paid to set it up. Has it got a zero fret? Does that need replacing? Actually, re-reading your post, it sounds like the truss rod might need loosening to add some more relief if you are getting buzz that far up the neck. I have a Status bass with wooden neck(graphite reinforced), zero fret and I can get the action very very low with zero buzz by setting it up myself so really cannot understand how these "professionals" can fail to address your issue.

Probably far more excited than I should be but....
dyerseve replied to Painy's topic in Bass Guitars
Flatwound strings are basically roundwounds which have had the surface polished off so the windings are flat and smooth. The difference in sound isn't just subjective - they produce less harmonic overtones than rounds so they tend to be less bright and zingy but that allows you to hear the fundamental of the note more strongly so they often tend to be described as thumpy
Sorry again but what are harmonic overtones and what are fundamentals. I'm not trolling, Just thick apparently... -
Best of luck in getting the guitars back and sorry for your friends loss. Will keep my eye out on gumtree and ebay

Hi Alfie, im based in Sedgley and did this exact thing to my Vantage. I've worked on a few warwicks in my time too. As stated above, as long as it's an oil finish it's not too much trouble.

excuse my ignorance but what are "flats" and what do they do different to rounds? are these differences subjective? -
I have a wood necked Series 1 5 string and it is by far the best neck and best balanced bass I have owned - and I have owned a lot of basses in my time. The wooden necks do have graphite reinforcement rods in them so the necks are rock solid but still lightweight
-
I dont think you can go wrong with a Status bass at that price.

Rubber Thumb (ArcherBass) - King Crimson/Primus live medley

i wish the audio was better because it looked/sounded very impressive from the little i could actually make out. -
Always fascinated by these. Ugliest headstock ever. But, I would.
Not a chance! You would have to go a long way to beat this for an ugly headstock: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/294441-laurus-t900xr-5-fretless-lined/

Yes you can but you have to buy the whole battery box. About £20 IIRC
For me it's because the original auction of the item was for charity. I would normally have no problem as, like you rightly say, the seller got what they wanted and the buyer can do what they like. Just feels a bit off making money where a charity could make more. But that's the way of the world.
but the charity made all the money they could - in fact they made more than they would have had the winning bidder not bid at all. I am guessing the charity just wanted to get shot of it as quick as possible for as much as possible so chose the ebay auction route. the new seller will be hoping for a collector or someone with very deep pockets to come along and so will probably have to hold on to the bass for a while before it shifts. no one is getting a short deal here, it's just e-commerce in action. Ive done it before and I'll do it again if the situation presents itself.
