1. Sorry guys that was my bad. I'm new here and didn't realise that was the case. I will pm the seller instead. Good luck with sale. It's a beautiful bass.
2. For Sale (no trades thank you), is a Yamaha TRB5II in Translucent Blue Burst. I have upgraded the straplocks to Schallers (but will include the originals) and the bass has recently been restrung with D'addarios. Otherwise the bass is original and in very good condition for it's age. There are 3 small chips where the finish has been removed and I have shown these in the photos. otherwise there are some small scuffs which I have also shown but really this is a visually stunning instrument with a sound to match! It is very versatile with the 3 band EQ and the neck profile is lovely and fast. Loads of meet left on the frets which have been recently polished and the fretboard has been cleaned and oiled. The sale includes a quality Hiscox Liteflite hardcase. I will be happy to ship within the UK and internationally. Within mainland UK it will be £30, for other areas please PM me for a quote. Below are the specs lifted from the Yamaha site. 3. I just threw up a little in my mouth... Quite possibly the ugliest bass I've ever seen!
4. I have just picked up an SB Special II and unfortunately the bridge pup is dead. No sound at all when selected regardless of any switch position. I've wiggled the wires round but not noticed anything amiss or heard any difference. I will reflow the solder joints when I get my iron back. Btw, if the pup is dead, will it just read as open circuit on a multimeter?
5. Now got the pups and notice there are four wires from each. I take it that means that can be wired in with a DPDT switch for series/parallel operation? That would provide loads of flexibility of so...
6. looks interesting - no idea what it is but i like it!
7. Are you going to tease us with some details or is it top secret? im waiting to take delivery of a new (to me) bass too! Managed to pickup what looks to be a very decent bass for stupid money - Japanese made Aria Pro II SB Special II for £155!!!. It looks to have a lot of features in common with the earlier 80's SB range: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-pro-II-SuperBass-Made-in-Japan-/162194721659?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=osIDaNUttx2%252Fu9rLEi8oYpg2C1A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
8.
...and they both have strings - don't forget that!
not only that but both have 4 string nonetheless! and they are both bass guitars!!! seriously though, apart from the general shap, bolt on v neck thru and body material, they are pretty similar instruments in my book. I know they arent the same but I never said they were. i said they were "similarish"
9.
Erm - aside from having 2x P pickups (a fairly common configuration in 70s basses) in what way? I'm a massive fan of Matsumoku basses but even I can see that these two instruments are from different planets.
Erm that would be the high mass brass bridge, brass nut, high quality tuners, same or at least very similar controls, active, dimarzio pups, switching for series/parallel for each pup, maple neck, and high build quality. You're right, not much really... And I didn't realise double p pup was ever common.
10. Great work so far! Always good to see an instrument rescued and restored rather than destroyed! Keep up the great work
11. The ones I won on ebay appear to be Model J DP123's if that's any help? https://www.gak.co.uk/en/dimarzio-dp123-model-j-black/97011?gclid=CMGwkOnskM8CFTIo0wodG30L7Q looks like I got them at a decent price if they are +£100 new.
12.
lot of bass for the money... 34" scale though?
Thanks. Yes 34" scale.
13.
Bingo!! I've got some in an Ibanez, They're really good IMHO. If you still don't like the bass, PM me, please!
Thanks Richard. Will do
14. looks to be similarish to a Vantage VB-900A which can be had for much less money and have the advantage of neck-thru construction. they arent exactly common either though: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-1981-Vantage-VA-900B-Neck-Through-Body-Bass-Guitar-Matsumoku-/222018882783?hash=item33b15b4cdf%3Ag%3AuWIAAOSwKtlWq8sR&nma=true&si=osIDaNUttx2%252Fu9rLEi8oYpg2C1A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
15. Well I just managed to pickup a second-hand pair of dimarzios from eBay for £50 so will give them a try. If it doesn't work out or show potential for other pups I may just move the bass on.
16.
I would try EMG or Bartolini. I tried the same with my stage 2 (putting on EMG) and the sound get a lot better. Bartlini will sound something "darker" than EMG Cheers
thanks, dont want dark tone so EMG sound like a good choice. Any particular model i should be looking at?
17.
What don't you like about the MEC's? I've not heard people being against them before - I've only heard unhappy rumours about the soapbar that came in the passive Streamer at the time.
they are the cheap Dynamic Compression ones - not the decent MECs that you find in other Warwicks. The tone isnt terrible but there isnt enough bite for my liking
18. Steve Hodson of Oceansize and Kong fame uses a Gibson Grabber and acheives a very nice tone from it!
19. Hi All, Looking for some advice please: I have just picked up a rather lovely '97 German built Warwick Corvette Std. It has a bubinga body and a wenge neck and fretboard. It is passive with two MEC Dynamic Correction pups. I understand that the Dynamic Correction MECs are not thought of very highly so would like some advice on what you think the best pups will be to get the best out of my vette. I love the feel, balance and playability of the bass. I quite like the tone I am already getting but the warwick growl is not really there. My budget is £100 and happy to buy secondhand to get best bang for buck. cheers, Chris
20.
I didn't realise that there was another Basschatter in the DY3 area. If I had £175 this would be perfect for me. If it's still here when I've sold my Squier VM '77 Jazz, I'll be in touch
Not only that but a fellow MotoGP fan as well!
