Best jazz pups for my Corvette Std (bubinga body, wenge neck)
dyerseve replied to dyerseve's topic in Bass Guitars
What don't you like about the MEC's? I've not heard people being against them before - I've only heard unhappy rumours about the soapbar that came in the passive Streamer at the time.
they are the cheap Dynamic Compression ones - not the decent MECs that you find in other Warwicks. The tone isnt terrible but there isnt enough bite for my liking -
Steve Hodson of Oceansize and Kong fame uses a Gibson Grabber and acheives a very nice tone from it!

Hi All, Looking for some advice please: I have just picked up a rather lovely '97 German built Warwick Corvette Std. It has a bubinga body and a wenge neck and fretboard. It is passive with two MEC Dynamic Correction pups. I understand that the Dynamic Correction MECs are not thought of very highly so would like some advice on what you think the best pups will be to get the best out of my vette. I love the feel, balance and playability of the bass. I quite like the tone I am already getting but the warwick growl is not really there. My budget is £100 and happy to buy secondhand to get best bang for buck. cheers, Chris
I didn't realise that there was another Basschatter in the DY3 area. If I had £175 this would be perfect for me. If it's still here when I've sold my Squier VM '77 Jazz, I'll be in touch
Not only that but a fellow MotoGP fan as well! -
Just bought a Zoom multi fx pedal off Chris. Great guy to chat to, very prompt and efficient. Item was couriered to me and was meticulously packed and protected for it's journey, very pleasing as some people don't bother their backsides. All round great guy to deal with and no hesitations about dealing with him whatsoever. The GroovyPlucker/Mark
Thanks Mark. Likewise it was a pleasure to deal with you! Thank you for the instant payment, pleasant communication and hassle free transaction. regards, Chris / Dyerseve

Warwick Rockbass Corvette short scale. Edinburgh. £250
dyerseve replied to solo4652's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Defo a Rockbass - the serial number starts RB, it says 'Made In China' on the sticker on the back of the headstock and it has a maple neck. I believe the first gen rockbasses had a one piece bridge but they have been producing RBs with 2pc bridges for a while now. Not sure it's a short scale either - I counted 24 frets??? One thing is certain though - it is definitely NOT a $$ as listed. Still, for £250 it's a decent bit of kit. Warwick wouldnt put their name to it otherwise... -
I played using two fingers instinctively for about 18 years and was self taught. Recently however I finally had lessons and the one thing I am very grateful for my teacher pointing out if that I wasnt using rest strokes. Now I am incorporating them in to my playing and my technique is much improved. It was an absolute bugger to learn having played a different way for so many years but I am glad I stuck with it as I feel i am much more in control now and the sound is much more defined. I would definitely recommend you learn this technique. see here for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_CS04_g4K4 I have some exercises tabbed out from my tutor specifically to learn this technique - if you want I can email them to you.

1980 Vantage VA-900B Restoration with modification
dyerseve replied to dyerseve's topic in Build Diaries
thanks for the very kind words guys. For my first ever restoration I was very happy with the results and this is a bass I will never sell as it has so much of my time and effort invested in it. The fact the it has a truly epic tone also helps! I am currently juicing up the rechargeable 9V batteries ready to supply the EQ once again as I have currently been playing it passive only. Interestingly, due to output level mismatch when using the balance pot blended 50/50, I now have each pup wired with it's own vol pot which I actually prefer over the balance pot.. -

Completed - Vantage (Gotoh) Tuners - 2+2, 2 full sets to give away
dyerseve replied to dyerseve's topic in Completed Items
And replied! All gone now folks. -
I have some cables I made to give away. One end terminated in gold plated, decent quality RCA plug, the other with a 1/4" jack. Each cable is 2.4m long and made from a decent quality instrument cable. There are 2 available but happy to give both to someone as they can be used as a pair - I was running them from the outputs of my PCs soundcard to my active monitors. Completed - Vantage (Gotoh) Tuners - 2+2, 2 full sets to give away
dyerseve replied to dyerseve's topic in Completed Items
and replied - 1 set now gone, one left. -
I may be a newbie but I already get the sense this is a great community so I would like to contribute a little by offering these two sets of 2+2 tuners I have from Matsumoku era Vantage tuners - i believe these are actually produced by Gotoh. They certainly feel like quality tuners even if they are showing signs of their age. Anyway, hopefully someone can make use of these...
