If you like that tone, you'll probably also love: The bass at 1.36 This thick sort of tone doesn't really make it on to recordings much these days.

correct, not DI There is also a Si/Ge switch which I found no use for, an input pad pot to tame fierce active basses and a lot of clean boost available to overdrive old style valve amp front-ends if that's your thing. PM me your email address and I'll send you some sound clips if you like. I don't think this is a current model - I got it off t'Bay a couple of years ago and barely used it. It also sounds quite nice with a guitar... Cheers Jules

As the man said Dave Hall Amps. He's in the Ask an expert forum, makes all sorts of goodies. WarPig - wasn't really looking for trades as I hardly use pedals and I've just scored an MXR M80 dI box. Might consider a Trace Dual Band Comp, but that's about it really. You could try a cheeky offer though - I can only say no if it's too cheeky! Cheers Jules

We play pretty much no covers, but we do "A day in the Life" (the Beatles, for you youngsters) on acoustic and fretless and it always goes down amazingly well. Shouldn't really work, but it does!

Thanks for that! It looks like music is starting at about 9. We should be on at 10ish. Cheers Jules

Hi I'm more into fuzzy distortion so this is up for grabs. I think it is fairly subtle, and warms up an over clean solid-state amp quite nicely. Comes with a big 12V power supply too. I'd like £80 inc. P&P if that's ok. Cheers Jules Sorry folks, it has gone.

Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 vs SWR Baby Baby Blue... I need to decide
MoonBassAlpha replied to urb's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd agree, the Shuttle 3.0 isn't really loud with an 8 ohm cab (BF Compact, in my case) which can be good and bad, inasmuch as it doesn't feel like it ia moving a lot of air, BUT, at higher settings you do move the output stage into it's soft clipping/limiting phase which I find articulates rather like a valve amp power stage. It's not an unpleasant "I'm clipping nastily and am going to blow up soon" sound, but a certain amount of grit is added that you might like. With the 6.0 you might find that it's too loud to comfortably get it to that stage. Hope this helps. Cheers Jules -
My other band, The Mark Bosley Band, are playing at The Stocks Bar at the Crown and Thistle pub/hotel. We are a 3-piece playing original rock and acoustic, not too heavy. Witches are a well reviewed Oxford band, and Twizz Twangle (an oddball!) is also performing. I believe it is free to get in too. Deep Joy. Cheers Jules

PS, I used to ride Harleys (coupel of Sportsters followed by a Fat Boy) Am I the only one who finds the image of riding a Fat Boy at a Biker Do a bit disturbing?
Just my 2 cents: For the body (and back of the neck if it's the same) use a cloth dipped in very hot water and squeezed out to hardly wet at all. Do a small area at a time and follow with a dry rag straight away. Any dirt that isn't moved by that can be treated with saliva (which works a treat), de-ionised water (if the saliva thing is not to your taste) or naptha (lighter fluid). A combination of these 3 will usually do the trick. For the bridge parts, take them off the bass if you can, grab a toothbrush and use naptha to clean. For smaller parts, dip them in a mixture of naptha and 3-in-1 oil, then into acetone (nail varnish remover), then into another bath of acetone. This works really well, cleaning and lubricating the parts at the same time. If you have a unlacquered board (rosewood etc), then clean it with naptha and those cotton cosmetic pad things. It's amazing how much stuff comes off a board. As others have said, use 0000 grade wire wool for the frets and either mask the board off completely or use something so you don't hit the board. Don't use anything but 0000 as it'll leave big scratches. All this will take quite a while, but it'll be so worth it when you've finished.
May sound obvious, but don't get acetone anywhere near painted/lacquered parts, unless you WANT to remove the finish.

Old Fender Jazz too heavy - what to do ?
MoonBassAlpha replied to redstriper's topic in Bass Guitars
Lil ol' Steinbergers were popular with reggae types some years ago, and weigh not a lot. -
Oops, trying a bit too hard! If you look really closely there's a corner of a Compact to be seen! "Carried from Iffley village to the Isis Tavern, Oxford, and still had the strength left to play!" (A bit long for a catchphrase though...)

I loved the electroluninescent panels on the old ones too. I dont know why they stopped with them. The power transistors are dead cheap to replace if they blow too - 2n3055 if anyone is remotely interested...

I had US Masters make me a lined fretless with black lines on Pau Ferro and side dot markers ON the fret positions on 3.5.7 etc. From a distance it looks like a plain board, but I find the lines useful when recording for that extra precision on the jumps etc. The first neck they sent had the markers between the frets, useless IMO, and they let me keep it and sent another. The whole process took nearly a year though! Masters have a unique neck fixing/pocket so no off-the-shelf neck would fit, but I'm really pleased with the result. Jules

Celestion bass speakers - orange label v green label
MoonBassAlpha replied to Bass Culture's topic in Amps and Cabs
I can't believe Alex hasn't chipped in on this one - must be too busy building speakers!
