  1. Depends what you want out of music. If you like, as you say, playing music with your mates, is it worth the stress and expense? If you want a full time career in music and enjoy the full spectrum of playing then go for it. It is no guarantee of a paying career but would certainly help. There again, as Caitlin said, you could spend the 4 years working on something that makes you "Special", stand out from the crowd in an over populated market. And it wouldn't cost you anything.
  2. Run With the Fox. Chris Squire. Majestic, and bass driven.
  3. Aye, any TV about music is up my street. Not a Country fan as such but some of the genre musicians are superb. Some of the comments about "Taking Country in a new direction" escape me as I could not hear a discernable difference from before but hey ho, what do I know. The number of top Artists who died young is almost a mirror image of Jazz and Rock and Roll. Willie Nelson is a bit of a hero of mine, the number of songs he has composed, and have been covered, is astounding.
  4. Does that not simply mean that Albums and singles are two different beasts? The Stones still sell out arena tours and have not produced a single for a long time.
  5. /\ This. The industry now put "Bands" together, male or female, based on a blueprint that includes appearance and percieved personality, hair colour etc, that equals a popular "Band". Similar to the trend over the last few years that every pop song must have some scat singing in it of some variety, saves the tedious task of coming up with lyrics I suppose. I know its an old git moan but we started bands with our mates, to take on the world. We wanted to write our own songs and gig them, making any money out of it would simply have been a huge bonus. Thats where the honesty and the anger comes from in music not following a blueprint. Oh, and Blur were hugely more creative than Oasis. Shorter lived but more creative.
  6. But Oasis were simply re hashing the Beatles back catalogue, so they were out of place then.
  7. Great songs????? I take that with a huge pinch of subjectivity. 😂
  8. Its easy, you say " I hate you all and always have. Now fu*k off before I feed you to the pigs" Job done.
  9. I'm Dusting my Broom off tonight, does that count?
  10. As the old American blues guys used to tell the English sidemen they used live "Its got as many bars as I say it has"
  11. At 8.00 this morning I was listening (Almost) to the radio. The radio2 Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. The missus is bored with Zoe so had the Chris Evans Virgin Radio show on upstairs. They are mirror images. The Beeb simply replaced one over caffinated, shouty, breathless presenter with.....exactly the same. Even the same cheering, whooping sycophants in the background.
  12. My thoughts exactly. But I do agree with the "Feeling" the 12 bar blues. I never had to count, just feel where the measures are. Perhaps its just me but the changes in 12 bar just seem obvious.
  13. As hinted at before its micro timing. Get it just right, and that means the whole band, and you get an irisistable groove. Its not what you play its the way that you play it.
  14. I know....... but the OP was asking for "Easiest set". If you learn one 12 bar bass part you COULD play it in every song. Give me strength.
  15. Fill the set with 12 bar blues. Play them all in the dame key and you can simply repeat the same bass line.
  16. This 100% Enjoying what you do is key. If its your spare time and you are doing something that's supposed to be fun, but its a chore, then I don't do it.
  17. Run with the Fox by Chris Squire on radio 2 this morning. Great song. That bass sound still sends shivers down my spine. RIP Chris.
  18. Play what and how you enjoy playing. If you don't want to learn to slap bass then don't do it. If the guitarist didn't want to play a style of music he was not into I feel sure he would put his foot down and decline. Do what you enjoy.
  19. Its the responsibility of the person who starts the song, or the drummer to count in. Youtube versions are not always correct.
  20. I had the same issue with dpd. Tracked parcel. It left the depot. Its in your area. I watched the van drive past my window, I assumed he had a delivery before mine. Then get a message informing me I was not at home and it had been left at an address 12 doors away. He had also left parcels for another address in our street with the same neighbour??? Couldnt be bothered to make three stops. Absolute shower of shysters, and liars to boot.
  21. Bet he is really fun and good company to tour with. What a pr*ck. My first rule of band membership....no egos.
  22. The more members in a band the more difficult it is to please everyone. Factor in the name really needs to be in some way relevant to the style of music and the situation takes on the intricacies of a NATO summit. Our solution? We all came up with three names each that we liked, If everyone could not agree on one of those names they all went into a hat, and the first one drawn out was it. Sorted.
