Hoping to identify this 15" driver....think it's a Fane...
Pea Turgh replied to tonewheelkev's topic in Amps and Cabs
There’s 3 versions of the 15 in that link, with different coil diameters, so that should help identify it for sure! Get your tape measure out @tonewheelkev! -
Peterson combo driver upgrade (and related plywood boxes)
Pea Turgh replied to Pea Turgh's topic in Amps and Cabs
Got the box together, put the driver in to see how it sounds. Disappointing! Loud as hell, but very bass-heavy to the point of woolly. But that’s ok, as there is still work to do (aside from making it pretty) 1. The port was bought, and is a cm or two short. I will extend it with something suitable. 2. I will also stick wadding to the inside (I’m sure I can hear a difference). 3. I think some additional bracing would help, too. There’s just about space to put one on the baffle between the driver and port at a 45 degree angle. 4. I also have a bit of tecsound deadening material left over from the studio to stick to the back panel. I didn’t fancy a normal backplate (why make life easy for myself?) so I recessed the Speakon. Quite like it. The top-mounted handle is a bit big, or the feet I bought for the amp are a bit short. Will have to purchase bigger feet. -

That has to be an AI-written article. All that repetition and bullet points. -

Back on the cab after a break. Used the router to cut the baffle hole. Not sure if this is how other people use these things, but it worked! Drilled a hole for a nice fat screw to go in to a block of scrap wood, clamped in to the workmate. Spaced from the workmate with strips of scrap ply. Baffle clamped to the workmate so nothing could move. Nice clean round hole! -
Right. Got my numbers for tonight’s lottery, and picked out my spec on the mar… maroosh… public peace configurator: £2.5k! Looks damn fine though!

I’ve tried the lower powered rumbles in music shops across the land - they are all disappointing! I I’ve heard the 100w+ the rumbles sound ok, but I have no personal experience of them.

There will probably be a fair few secondhand practice amps in your locality. Most of them will do the job until she wants to get a gig rig.

I was wondering when the video would be up! How the hell does it not have neck dive?!

1991 USA Jackson concert bass. Your thoughts on restoration

I wonder if there’s a way of just cleaning and stabilising the finish as-is? -

I love a renovation project! Might just be the camera angle, but the remaining pickup looks like a standard jazz size, whereas the cavities look slim soapbar-sized. What’s going on there?

I love the fact you bought it for your front room! Awesome stuff. I can imagine it sounds immense! I’d assume the bulb had gone, what with the age and all. Hopefully you get it sorted easily - will be the coolest living room amp ever! -
Chucking new stuff in a skip should be a criminal offence. Felt bad skipping a 20yr old tumble dryer today that I’ve already fixed twice in the past.

Drums don’t tend to sound great through guitar or bass amps, due to their limited frequency range. You’d be best off with a full range cab for that purpose. -
Gretsch Junior Jet has a 40mm nut (I think)

Hello All, my memory for names is terrible, so I am sorry to have to ask, but who had the jag mute retrofitted to a P Bass? There’s someone in the “Repairs & Technical” thread with questions!

That is a damn fine colour combo. I am a P bass with flats sort of a guy, but I appreciate it takes all sorts to make the world go around.

Nearly finished rehousing this old combo head. Someone on Basschat offered it for free (!) in the recycling section here a while ago. I can’t find the messages to name drop them and thank them again. 12mm ply, original knobs were missing so put on this hideous set. Just got to find screws to hold it in to the case now. It was supposed to have some sort of fault, but after a quick poke around and reseating the power amp to preamp cable, it works beautifully! -
Paint it with emulsion and topcoat it with matte or satin varnish. It’s what I did with my micro cab. 2 years in and it looks pretty good still 👍

Hey @Rosie C! @JohnDaBass made a combo by modifying Phil’s plans;
