The difference is beyond that here - shafts are 14mm, holes are 18mm!
-
I have a Perspex strat copy from the 70’s - also stupid heavy!

Ola peeps! Family commitments have stopped progress this week, but I have a chisel waiting for me when I get home, so will crack on this eve! I need some hive mind input - I bought a nice set of tuners from @TheGreek to put on this bass, but I forgot to take in to account the shaft/hole discrepancy. Anyone know where I’d get some adapter ferrules from?
-
Bought some tuners off Mick - lovely bloke, smooth transaction - one of the pillars of the Basschat community! Thanks!

Walson. Gibbal. Sounds like an actual person!

I’m not that bothered about their music, but if they can make a living from it, I’m happy for them. I’m just trying to be positive, man!
-
Love that finish! I prefer simple looking basses. They match me then.
-
If the patch bay goes up top it will be next to other wires poking out of the mixer, so it’s more in keeping I guess! In front you can’t get to wiggle the faders about as easily.

The performance of the band was lackluster (apart from the singer), but they have a record out and are on telly and I’ve heard them on radio 6 twice today, so they must be doing something right 🤪
-
I thought she was a good showman/woman/non-binary entity with an energetic song. The rest of the band looked like they were bricking it! I suppose if they’ve gone from 0 to TV in a very short space of time, they would be unpolished and scared! And at the end of the day, they are on TV and radio and I am not, so hats off to them!

The headstock looks like someone set fire to a bit of driftwood, then went mental with Quality Street wrappers, then decided to make a guitar. Mental.

I could just get a Talman plate, but man that stack knob jag looks the business! In an unknown preemptive move, I’d already ordered a stack knob configuration loom from @KiOgon. I think I need to get a jazz plate and gouge out more wood to match. Let’s hope my chiseling skills are up to it...

Whilst I’m waiting for other bits to turn up, I thought I’d make a start on the scratch plate. I think this will take the longest to do, as I am quite particular about lines - they have to flow organically and follow the body. The routes for the Talman are weird. I don’t think I can resolve the lines without further alteration to the Jack socket route. Then I saw this picture of a stack knob jag...

I spent ages lining up the bridge pickup surround in relation to the bridge. Unfortunately there is a slight gap top & bottom, but I’ll sort it out somehow at a later date. I then lined the neck pickup surround between the bridge pickup and neck. I used a forsner (?) bit as per @Andyjr1515’s bulk removal method. I tidied up a bit with a Stanley knife. I was going to borrow a router to clean it up, and also sort the bridge pickup widening, but I think I’ll buy a nice chisel and do it by hand instead. Popped the pickups in to see what they looked like - I’m quite happy with the way this is evolving!

Ooh, I’ve had fun with this tonight! I decided to assemble the parts first, then when I’m happy with it, pull it apart and do the neck refinish, possibly the body too. First up - get the neck on so I can line everything else up properly. I had to sand the inner edges of the neck pocket, as although the shape is luckily a perfect match, it was too tight to fit in. The neck ferrules I got off eBay were a bit small, and not quite high enough, so I popped some washers underneath to bring them flush with the body surface. Neck on! I used a straight bit of wood to held tightly against the neck edges to draw lines on the body. This got the bridge nicely lined up. Bridge on!

Told a punter to 'get to f...' for the time last night!

Some idiot started throwing coins at the saxophonist at a gig once. Her husband is the trombone player, so hilarity ensued, then we all helped turf the offending idiot out. -
Eko violin bass with a nice volute
Pea Turgh replied to Pea Turgh's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yeah, I’ve seen it a couple of times as I have a bass-related watch set by distance. Marvelous technology! -
Sorry if this has been posted before, but would be funny if it has (Eko, eko, eko!). Local to me, but not mine or anyone I know. I love the edge of the scratch plate, the volute, but I dislike the strange back. Its no way worth what he/she is asking for, but would make an interesting project (at 1/5th asking price!). https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F143422762521

The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash - Now Sunday 19th September 2021
Pea Turgh replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
I’ll be there! Are @Chownybass attending again? Enjoyed the parts bin they had going on. Might bring cans this time too so I can actually hear the lovely selection of basses that everyone brings. -
Hang on there matey! Don’t mention my name, then disaster, in the same paragraph!!! If it goes t!ts up all the entire build community will be hunting me down to exact their (probably stripy) revenge for influencing the stripe that broke the camel’s back, thus denying them the ultimate satisfaction of seeing mighty walnut semi-hollow les Paul-type thingy completed!!!! I bet it’d look awesome though...
-
Hang on, $60 for this?! Whaaaaaat??!?!?!
-
I like the songs by the way! I just listened on my phone so I can’t comment on the mix levels too much, but keeping it simple always worked for me. James Jameson went DI in to the desk too!
