  1. There’s a lot going on in that picture - the carpet is nuts!
  2. Soothing? It came up with an ad for some zombie apocalypse game tagged on to the start!
  3. Cheers dudes! I like the non-standard standard look.
  4. Hello chaps. I was watching the Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells documentary last night, and his Fender caught my eye, but I can’t determine the model. Could anyone oblige?
  5. I see this dude...
  6. If the amp doesn’t make the bad noises with nothing plugged in, I’d hazard a guess it’s what you are plugging in to it. Active bass needs new batteries? Bass needs earthing/shielding?
  7. I thought you were going to paint the ports, but it looks really cool now it’s all done. Classy looking.
  8. I’ve been fiddling again! It’s now slightly lower than before, but high enough to fight back a little, which I think i’m comfortable with. Probably more importantly, the string height is even across all strings now. I think I prefer the tone with the strings a little higher, too. I could put the pickups down of course, but then I’d have nowhere to rest my thumb! I think I’m set (til I can afford a proper set up). Thanks folks!
  9. Thank you Kumimajava! I’d come to the conclusion that it was a big jump to make, and also that I should get a proper set up to sort issues with the frets. I bought this bass a few years ago from the original owner who bought it new in 1983 or 84, and I don’t think it’s been looked at by a luthier in that whole time! When I have a few quid, I know of a good local chap to take it to (where I’ll request a 2.75mm action!)
  10. I suppose I was just wondering if there was a ‘normal’, and if was a bit on the high side. Point taken about the subjectivity of it all, as mentioned above, just was wondering to see if I could make life easier for myself. Turns out I’m happy being a smidge on the high side!
  11. Already dropped it a mil before anyone else responded - I don’t like it! I thought it’d be easier on my daddy longlegs fingers, but it clangs too much compared to what ive been used to these past however many years I’ve had this bass. Therre we go - live and learn and all that!
  12. Cool - thanks! Looks like I’m just over 3mm at the twelfth fret now, so I’ll put it down a bit. I’m sure there are many possibilities, but what then would be high or low? Also, is there any resource that would provide well known players preferences? Just a thought.

    Action!

Hello friends. I had a quick google, but could not find anything specific, so would appreciate your collective input! How many millimeters is low, medium and high action? With reference to my own playing aspirations, I want to be be James Jamerson when I grow up - did he play with a high action? Thanks in advance!
  14. Ooh, walnut - nice!
  15. I bought a thunderbird rip off, then sold it to a mate a day later. Only bought it because I was so happy there was one actually available when I looked!
  16. I really love my JV P-Bass. I was noodling this morning, listening to the resonance (unplugged) and thinking “bloody hell this is nice”. Its getting a bit battered these days though, and I’m not a roadworn/relic fan!
  17. Aesthetically, it looks too close to the bridge. I’d shift it neckwards by 4 or 5 cm. iI have no idea if that is correct sound-wise though!

    Lovely!
  19. Number 3 if you need 2 pickups - a nice balance with the pick guard! Or maybe just 1 in a Stingray position?
  20. Was it a special order? I couldn’t see a bass jaguar body there.
  21. This site never fails to educate! I’d just accepted the fact that my glasses will slip down my nose as the song goes on, so worked the looking upwards thing in to my little shuffle. I like the little grommet type ones there, I just want to avoid putting more stuff on my head (already have ear plugs in too!) Now, if I could only find a cure for “bass face” (as the Mrs calls it) where all facial expressions switch off...
  22. I always fancied one of those, just lack the funds for the foreseeable! Bring it along to the bass bash if it’s still not sold!
  23. Do they come with authentic 70’s build quality too?
  24. Nothing to do with bass, but one of my all time favourite translations, found on a kids toy;
  25. Have you read the full description?! I LOVE a good (bad) translation!!!
