1.
You've given me amp-building GAS again!
Splendid! Glad to hear it! May I ask what you've built before?
2. Glad you like it Gentlemen. Once I get around to sorting the new headbox, I'll bung some more piccies up (don't hold your breath though..).
3.
Only sold it to fund my divorce
That Sir, is heartbreaking.......
4. Yes I prefer the 6CA7 over the EL34 which is generally used in the Sound City 120. As you say, clean and warm. While the wiring may appear unorthodox for a hand crafted valve amp, it is totally stable and virtually silent even with the volume rolled right up. Rob spent some time getting the Boogie 120 just right and clearly wasn't going let me get my grubby little hands on it until he was completely happy with it. If you want something really special built to very high standards for what I consider to be a most reasonable price, I wholeheartedly recommend you give Rob a shout.
5.
I love amp insides threads. More pics please!
Oooooh... Let's have a look shall we... The new preamp board Rob built is clearly visible.
6.
guts!
7. I mentioned in some of my 'For Sale' threads a while ago that I had something special on the way. Well this is it! A friend tipped me off about a chap called Rob Dix of R D Amplification who builds valve amps and that it might be worth my while having a chat with him. Some of you may remember me posting a piccie of his Boogie Bass 100 head which I considered but as I had the Sound City already I thought this might be a plan worth pursuing. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you - The Boogie Bass 120 Started off as my old Sound City 120 complete with noisy preamp. Rob gutted the whole thing keeping only the chassis and transformers and built a new preamp which is much simpler than the Sound City original and delivers shedloads of tone. It's amazingly noise free even with the volume turned right up and speaking of the volume turned up, it's also fecking loud played through my BFM Omni 15 Fullrange. Does clean and dirty very nicely thank you very much! Next thing to do is build a new head box 22" wide to go with the pair of Bill Fitzmaurice Jack 15's I've got on the go (on the go read slow in my case..). A few more piccies - Photo's courtesy of another Rob - Website Cheers Grahame
8. Ian bought my Stagg fretless and was a Gent throughout. Deal with confidence! Thanks again Ian. Grahame
9.
Also well worth getting is some deoxit or peavey funkout spray.
Ooooo.... Is this Deoxit stuff as good as it's made out to be? Might get some if it is.
10. Just bought a TE V4 from Chris and found him to be straightforward to deal with and communicative. Nice one, thanks mate! Grahame
11.
This looked like quite an interesting thread but unfortunately you're on my ignore list so i can't see it
These 120's are great amps - I'll be following this with interest, thanks for putting it up Mr F.
12. Sorry, should have made it more obvious. It's a Stagg.
13. My first fretless which got me hooked on the idea of not having any bumps or lines on the neck. So if you fancy dipping your toes into the world of fretless but worried about losing big time financially if it doesn't work out, give this a gander - I've put a nice fresh set of Black Diamonds on it (my preference for fretless and they represent half the value of this bass!!), also set it up to get it sounding half decent. One of the pots is a bit wonkey but doesn't affect anything. Yours for £50 and I'll do next day courier for another tenner. Waddya say people? Cheers Grahame
14. I have to say Liam, this baby sounding sooooooo good when you were trying it down at my place I'm almost tempted to have it back off you.......
15. These are cracking preamps and there're not many floating around - I'm amazed one turned up for sale so soon after mine. If you want a simple to use pre' with great tone, buy this and buy it now.
16. C'mon people, you really need one of these. Great price too! I built a pair of these for my son and they sound just fantastic! Have you got a weight for yours Stuart? Cheers Grahame
17. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Don't do it!! Seriously though, this is a great, great example of a classic head and Liam's a smashing guy to deal with.
18. Tell me about it! Cost me over £800 to put together.... Thanks for the 'Good luck with the sale'.
19. What about an Ampeg B25? Two 7027's putting out 55-60W. The inputs can be bridged for an even fatter tone. Mind you, I think it's 24" wide..... IMO, sounds fabulous when cranked and not too loud.
20. Just met John and did the deal for my Korg tuner. Really pleasant guy and wouldn't hesitate to buy or sell to him again. Thanks John! Grahame
21. C'mon people, you know you want to!
22. Gavin bought my Read Purity preamp and what a splendid chap to deal with too! Many thanks Gavin and hope you enjoy the Read. Cheers Grahame
23. And sold Ladies and Gentlemen! Now on it's way to sunny Edinburgh.
24. Bumpy!
