  1. American Alder Jazz Bass Body. Unbranded. Includes custom '60's stacked knob control plate with series/parallel switch. Pick Ups are the fantastic hand wound Wizard pick ups from here in the UK. They are the model 84 set. All cavities shielded and the bass is super quiet. The bridge pick up has a small blemish on the top.....cosmetic only. The bass is fairly hefty at 3.3kg, but I find the weight adds to the tone....much like my '76 Jazz Bass sounds. Neck pocket is 1.7cm deep and 6.4cm wide. Shipping is fine...PayPal too.
  2. My 60's band is dragging me back to using my Hofner and Ric so away goes my jazz bass. I'm selling the neck separate because I didn't like how it fit in the jazz bass body I had....not the neck's fault it's the body I used. This neck was a perfect fit with my genuine Fender Alder P bass body. The tuners are aged Gotoh (reverse vintage style) Res-0-Lites. Grab a deal for your next build. Paypal preferred, but cash OK too for local pick up. Shipping within UK ok as well. Nut is cut for .050-.100 Chrome flatwounds. There's a slight bl;emish down by the last fret on the fingerboard. A work bench mistake where a small drill bit went into the fretboard. Not a big deal but needs to be mentioned (see photo). Here are the specs: Description: Official Fender American Professional Jazz Bass Neck - Tinted Maple w/ Rosewood Fingerboard, Satin Back, and Gloss Headstock- Slim "C" Shape- Posiflex Graphite Reinforced Support Rods- 9.5" Radius (241 mm)- 20 Narrow/Tall Frets- 34" Scale Length (864 mm)- 1.50" Width at Nut (38 mm)- Genuine Fender
  3. I switched over as sub to play guitar awhile back and now I'm back at bass full time again and don't really need such a good guitar gathering dust. It's either a 2017 or '18 MIM road worn body and parts. Untouched, minus the slotted screws fitted and a bit more old timey patina done to the bridge, screws, pickguard and control plate. The neck is a new Fender "boat neck" and fits my hands great....but if modern C shape is your thing then this is not your neck. I can ship but would prefer to meet local and willing to drive a bit to make a deal. Paypal ok too. Email me with any questions. Thanks! Gunnar

  4. Sorry Sold!
  5. Selling my work horse Hofner Club. Upgraded tuners to German issue Hofner pearl tuners, LaBella Beatle Bass strings installed. Pro set up from Denmark Street luthier. Has a few blemishes on the back and the upper headstock, but very minor. I used this bass for a series of Beatles gigs and it worked great, now mostly using my P Bass so need this to go to a good home. Happy to ship within the UK. Includes a nice modified Epiphoe gig bag. I shortened it down and it makes a nice gig bag for this bass as it protects the headstock very well. Check out some of the clips from carnabyarmy.com and you can see/hear it in action on some tunes. Paypal or cash all work fine for me. 325 shipped mainland UK
  6. Taking apart the bits on this jazz bass, I purchased the bass new (with a cracked neck, fixed the neck and the bass played real well, but I know have a real good P bass with jazz neck and don't need this. Comes fully shielded, has a paint blemish by the bridge pup which can be touched up fairly easy me thinks. Also includes the bridge and neck plate and tort scratch guard. Boxed and ready to ship. Please add £10 for shipping. Thanks!
  7. Good condition Rumble 40. Can drive within reason, or ship if nothing moves locally. Thanks!
  8. My go to amp for a few years, but I've since switched to a more vintage sound with Fender which sits better with the band I play in (60's cover band). Not much needs saying about these amps that hasn't been said before, but they do rock! I've mostly used this as a stage monitor so it's never been cranked up. No rattles and it's in good shape. Local pick up preferred. £450, but offers considered. Paypal or cash works for me.
  9. Good condition Hofner Very Thin. HCT Contemporary series. There was a battle between this bass and my HCT Club and the Club bass won. This bass is fantastic, I just happen to like the size of the Club bass a bit better. No sense having this gather dust, so off to a good home it goes. Paypal is fine and shipping within the UK is AOK.
  10. I got the idea from a talkbass.com forum discussing Gibson SG basses and their three point bridge.....notorious for not leaving room enough on the saddles. A guy actually makes a "mod bar" back in the States for Gibson bridges that takes care of this issue.....but the nuts are cheaper!
  11. I run d'Addario Chromes on almost all my basses and it seems every bass needs the "nut job" to keep the silks off the saddle....it's the nature of those strings.
  12. it's a rather generic three piece Ash body from the interwebs.
  13. I built this up after I purchased a 2008 American Standard P Bass neck. The owner of the neck had sanded off the headstock details so he could do a relic P Bass, but never got around to the project, so I've taken on the project to make a Pino Palladino look a like bass...without spending £3000 pounds on one. The body is ash and is finished with a coat of sanding sealer, a light coat of white primer and two coats of fiesta red nitro. The idea is to have the bass naturally relic like the basses of old with light nitro coatings. With the light coats you can see the grain through the paint. That being said, it's not a absolutely perfect refin. You can see some white primer show through and also see some scraper marks where I removed the original poly finish....but then again, the whole point of this bass is to have it look like a light relic.... The pick ups are Fender Custom Shop '62. By far my favorite pickups and come with all new Fender American P basses. The custom wiring harness is built by my local luthier and consists of Bournes 250k Ohm Vintage pentiometers short shaft audio taper. Orange drop .047uf tone capacitor for that classic tone. Switchcraft 2 conductor mono 1/4in. output jack. Strings will be a decent set of round wounds (but the bass deserves flats!) The neck, being a USA 2008, has the carbon reinforcing rods. The decal is waterslide from Crox Guitars. The neck has been sprayed with nitro amber for a more classic look. To get that Palladino Custom Shop look, the hardware has been aged using my formula of having the hardware in a sealed vapor container with a mixture of acids (not bathed...simply in proximity). Includes a decent gig bag. For £650 you're getting all the greatness of a American P Bass...and arguably a Pino Palladino CS bass for £2000 less! UK shipping can be arranged. Local pick up preferred. Update: Forgot to mention the cavities have also been fully shielded.
  14. Well, I believe there's a strengething rod in there. I'm thinking it's time to pull the fret board and maybe add another one.
  15. Well, I received this "1964" Hofner Senator last week from an ebay sale. The condition of the bass could have been better described and the action was described as being high. No problemo me thinks because I can hopefully tweak the truss rod...shave the bridge etc. But when the bass arrives I tune it up , see that indeed the action is very high and go hunting for the truss rod....none to be found. It's had a repaired neck joint (common on these ofcourse) and the headstock scroll work looks suspiciously 1950's....not early 60's. So I think someone once upon a time replaced the neck with a non truss rod 1950's neck (pre 1960's Senator basses didn't have truss rods....I later found out). Well, I arranged a return through ebay and then plugged it in and played it again and dang, if it just didn't sound fantastic. Nice strong pick up, pots seem to work well and the thing does have tons of great mojo and it would be great with my 60's cover band. So I worked out a deal for a partial refund as I love a good project. So I now am the proud owner of a 1960's/1950's Hofner for the price of a Chinese Icon. But, I do realize I have my work cut out for me. My first try at getting the neck less bowed is to clamp it as seen in the photos. I have a small oil heater under the neck providing a small amount of heat and I'm going to try a few days with this technique. But I know I'll probably have to bite the bullet and pull the fretboard and either add another stiffening rod or perhaps even a truss rod. Before I go through with such drastic surgery does anyone have tricks for dealing with non truss rod necks? I'm a bit of a back yard luthier and have changed/repaired many a truss rod so it shouldn't be too much for me to handle but it is reaching the top end of my skills. Any suggestions would be very welcome (except suggestions to take in for someone to repair!)
  16. Hey there, sorry for the delay. TW11 8AQ.....Teddington. Thanks!
  17. Hi there Happy Jack! Since reading through the listings on Hofners, I see you are the man in the know on these basses.

For the 60's band I play in, Carnabyarmy.com, I've come to the realization that the Hofner is the right fit for our sound. I started with a Icon series Club bass....it sounded pretty darn good, but I just couldn't jive with the quality, so I've moved on to a HCT Club bass...which is pretty darn good, but of course lack's some of the classic Hofner sound because of the center block, so I tried a few Senator basses and they're great. I have one in hand (1964), but the owner didn't explain that the neck was replaced with a pre 1960's bass so there's no truss rod and the neck is bowed so it's unadjustable and basically unplayable for me.

Any thoughts on who might have one for sale? or any tips on getting a bow out of a non truss rod Hofner neck?

Attached is the photo of the 1964 I just bought (and now returning)

    Thanks for your help!

    Best,

    Gunnar

  18. Hi Stewblack. The strap pin takes care of how the bass lays....meaning it doesn't lay forward anymore. Very comfortable now!
  19. Purchased for a project, but never used it. £55 shipped within the UK.
  20. Here's my number One gigging bass. Been using it for a year with my 60's band carnabyarmy.com and it's been fantastic....until I went and bought a 1964 Hofner Senator bass, so as great as this one is it's time to move it along. What you will see is the modified headstock. As many of you will know, these basses suffered from neck dive, so I took advantage of a Gibson headstock veneer I had left over from a Les Paul project. By reshaping the headstock to the Gibson size venner(and adding Hipshot ultra light tuners) there is now zero neck dive. The strap pin (Schaller's) has also been moved to the upper horn using a backing block so it's rock solid. It's strung with some old d'Adddario Chromes as well (I also used nuts to offset the strings at the bridge....keeps the windings off the saddles). Shows some wear and tear, but not too bad. Some buckle rash and a hole was drilled for a thumb rest. Sale includes epiphone hard case, original tuners, original selctor knod and scratch plate. I can ship, but really would like to do a local deal on this one....happy to drive part way to meet for sale. Here's a link to the talkbass forum showing the headstock mod: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/lets-take-care-of-that-jack-casady-neck-dive.1345598/ More photos to follow.
