  1. I had one and in general I found it handy, I just wish it had a bluetooth function to allow for cordless headphones, the lead trailing form the 3.5mm socket to the headphons sometimes gets in the way when you're playing. Also the headphone socket is flimsy and starts to give trouble eventually. The aux input is really handy to plug in an MP3 player or whatever to play along with, again, this will give trouble. in short...wireless please.
  2. Exactly, I wouldn’t be proficient enough on fretless to justify anything more expensive tbh.
  3. While it really like the sound and look of the 51 p bass. My thumb can’t get used to that pickup position. I tried that Harley Benton p bass. Great bass but I couldn’t get on with it . I just find the traditional p bass a more comfortable bass.
  4. Yeah , I’ve noticed a few bits that are indicative of the low price but overall it’s a pretty decent cheap acoustic bass. See other thread
  5. Yeah I’ve had mine a few months now: likes: plays lovely with tape wounds. the stock strings, while OK seem a little more suited to a fretted bass. With tapes you can get something approaching an upright bass in tone. It looks gorgeous and is well balanced for a full scale acoustic bass . Battery lasts a long time and controls feel good. cons: piezo pickup isn’t great and sound isn’t well balanced (boomy and missing a lot of midrange) I can definitely feel the different sections of the neck under the paintwork, i.e. not well sanded before the final paint job. The tuning heads aren’t great at all and you don’t get smooth upward or downward tuning , seems notchy, could be the nut. to sum up; it’s an inexpensive bass and With just a few little upgrades it could be great. I think if I was a looking for an acoustic fretless to do some serious gigging I’d have paid £300 more . But it suits my purposes .
  6. That's a good price...great amps, just check for service, age of valves etc.
  7. Yep some Norwegian shipping company set it up.
  8. I saw this morning on the news a ferry load of Truck Drivers from Ireland disembarking at Dunkirk. Its a 24hr crossing which is fairly significant but the feeling was "at least we know its going to be 24hr and we're not stuck in our lorries without a bog". The crossing service had increased to 6 days a week now. That's a lot of business lost along the old land bridge through the UK.
  9. Yep - NI in literally Limbo, they're now closer to the EU and (much to the annoyance of the DUP) the Irish Republic.
  10. That's the big compromise, they've had to keep NI in the customs union and put the tax boarder in the Irish Sea. Otherwise they would have been in breech of the Good Friday agreement (i.e. international law)
  11. Literally the opposite end of the country, about 3+ hrs drive to Newry ☹️
  12. Cheers, I'll check that now
  13. this is a major pain in the bum, I've some gear to sell that I would have normally sold to UK buyers. I've bought and sold so much stuff from Britain as the chose and potential bargains are phenomenal, hopefully the customs procedures are not too laborious. Did Boris not think about us Basschatters ?
  14. Hi Folks I regularly buy and sell gear to UK bassists, I'm based in Ireland. Can anyone tell me what I need to do now in terms of import / Export to/from UK?
  15. Not that big/heavy for an all valve head . 19kg as far as I know .
  16. So... next year I’m definitely definitely not buying any gear ....and this time I mean it 😬
  17. That crossed my mind as they were heading stateside.
  18. Hi Folks I saw the last 8 x LB-30s being assembled on the Ashdown FB page for dispatch and I noticed one interesting thing: On the Ashdown builds there were 3 transformers. i.e. 2 large transformers at the rear corners and a much smaller one in front of the RHS transformer, behind where the VU meter would be. Mine just has 2. Mine is a PRC one. Just wondering what this could be and why is it apparently optional.
  19. There's an Ashdown CTM300 B stock for sale on their site for £999. I think that should give you all the creamy warm lows you could need without the distorsion.
  20. I've 2 valve Ashdown heads at 30 and 100W and I love them. But if I was in the marked for a more powerful head Id seriously consider a Stoneham YI200 amp. They're based out of Newcastle.
  21. I love the Ashdown little bastard because its an all valve amp at just 30w with no fan. So it's always working had even at low volumes .
  22. Yep, the KT88s/ 6550s are way cheaper also.
  23. Can’t beat KT88/6550s for ruggedness . Is your amp still 280w though? normally a quartet of these valves run at about 200w....still heaps of power for a valve head
  24. I'm sure if you really wanted the stingray sound you could just use an EQ pedal or install an onboard preamp. https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/East_Preamps_MMSR.html
  25. Honey burst, a definite deal breaker for me.
