  1. Kinda scratching my head as to what to do with the ctm100 now 🤔?. The spyder kinda does what I wanted from the ctm100 with more headroom to drive smaller cabs and less hassle or maintenance. I can’t see myself ever selling the ctm either though, it’s too much of a rare beast and I think they’re only going to increase in value down the road. I do think the vintage barefaced 10” series cabs and the Ashdown valve heads are a perfect match.
  2. Replaced the valves in my spyder there last week and had a rehearsal tonight where I got a chance to push it a bit. This thing sounds incredible when the gain is cranked up. While not exactly overdriven it produces a really edgy “jean-Jacques Brunel” kinda tone with a p bass and pick. My band mates were really impressed. I actually prefer the sound out of this to my ctm100 probably because of the sheer driving force of the solid state back end. It’s a great combination imo.
  3. I have an all valve CTM100 and I found it lost power. I replaced all the preamp valves and the power/volume returned. If your amp has preamp valves it’s a good place to start.
  4. One of my Ashdown heads has 2 fans and they’re dead quiet. I had an orange terror bass before and it was like an airplane taking off 😆
  5. Sold ....Again 😂😂😂
  6. Davy , sorry, sale just agreed, I'm about to mark it sold shortly. (once dispatched)
  7. Check out Puretone Amps from Greece, he seems to have it cracked
  8. I reckon without all that wood it’ll ‘only’ weigh around 15-20kg, practically featherweight....for a valve head 🤣
  9. Still up for grabs
  10. Bump
  11. Yeah that’s what I have 2 Ashdowns and a UK Trace . Power houses
  12. I seem to be going the opposite way 🤔. I only have valve or old school mosfet AB amps now. Got rid of all my class D light weight amps . I just prefer the sound of them . Personal thing I suppose
  13. Just received a now discontinued Ashdown Spyder 550 and I can’t get over the build quality and sound of the thing. I regularly gig with an old trace head,( which I also love) the sound profile from the Ashdown seems more natural than the trace . Warmer or something?

    Merton

Bought an Ashdown spyder from Merton and he really delivered a cracking amp , great to chat with and a pleasure to deal with . A gent and thoroughly sound bloke .
  15. Slightly off the point but I reckon there’s gear doing the rounds among basschatters 😂😂. I once sold a bass to a random guy that happened to be the previous owner of my current bass. 🤔
  16. I pulled the trigger on an Ashdown spyder 550w but only to ease the transition into abstinence 2020. Like a smoker on New Year’s Eve
  17. This kit allows you to convert the two10 into a two10s. I.e offering both 4 and 12 ohm impedance options. No soldering involved (just a lot of screwdrivering 😀) Item unused. Never needed to stack my cab with another , plus my amp goes to 2ohm. Price excludes shipping
  18. I got the cheapo one from Thomann , Harley Benton , spent another £30 on a set up , fret dress and now it plays and sounds fantastic. Big fat maple neck only around £130 in total . It’s a seriously good bass
  19. Well I just pulled the trigger on an Ashdown spyder 550....but that’s it !
  20. Well I have one guitarist mate and one drummer mate that have bad gas.
  21. I think us bassists suffer from gas the most. A lot of my guitar friends couldn’t care less what gear they have as long as it works 🤔
  22. Consumables don’t count right ? Leads strings , valves etc ?
  23. I went down that 5 string road, gassed about it for years. Eventually bought a cracking Human Base, then it was like “now what?” Much preferred my 4 string Basses. If you really want those low notes consider a drop tuner or pitch shifter.
  24. I’m gassing for a sweet hybrid amp currently up for grabs . Do I need it ? Of course not 🙄
