  1. See my thread above, I bought a 50W Carlsbro Evo guitar amp a few months back, no modification. Bass response from it is good...much better than I expected.
  2. Did you try running the valve head into the bass cabinets, you might be surprised at how much low end you'd get.
  3. THought the store was ‘just at the end of this street’ until I got to the end of that street and realized it was another street away...too late to turn back to my car. My back felt it .
  4. walked the length of 2 streets to my amp tech guy carrying an Ashdown CTM-100. Arms fit to fall off. The things I do for tone 😂😂
  5. Actually Epifani also do this with their DIST range of cabinets. Not cheap.
  6. Why don't more speaker manufacturers do this?...seems like such a no-brainer.
  7. Question on AH/500-7. There are 2 outputs , one is a speakon the other a 1/4” jack. The min load is 4ohm...does this mean I can connect a 4 ohm cab to each output?
  8. The latest from CITES is that international transportation of rosewood on musical instruments will now be exempt from restrictions.
  9. It looks a bit better than a bronco to be fair and made from alder, rosewood, maple etc. but I’m not convinced it’s worth the price tag . I’d love to see a demo of it.
  10. Just go to a (friendly) guitar store and ask them do they have any bass boxes, they might give you one, they might even have bubble wrap. They have to pay to dispose of this so you might be doing them a favour. Send to the the seller. The seller already has a gigbag.
  11. Not sure...but that bass is based on a Warren Ellis tenor guitar.
  12. If you decide to reconsider courier option to Ireland I would snap it up. I own a Mayones...I know how good these basses are.
  13. Is it my imagination or have their guitars really jumped up in price? You could probably get a MIA P bass second hand for that price. Definitely a Player MiM j or p bass (and they are sweet)
  14. I’ll think with a set of flats going through a valve amp it would sound really retro , 60s fat bass .
  15. It’s a cooler alternative imo, not cheap though 🙄
  16. I got a serious attack of gas today ...this is the sweetest little thing I’ve seen in a long time https://eastwoodguitars.com/collections/bass/products/warren-ellis-bass
  17. They do look cool and sound great, I had a 1976 4001 for a short time but the neck was completely shot and the truss rods juts didnt work. It was practically unplayable....But I remember the tone of of it. Gorgeous. Again not the most practical bass in the world, too much chrome, a superfluous pickup cover, too much 60 cycle hum, an nonadjustable bridge and wayyyy too expensive. I think if i was to but one again it'd have to be a 4004. Now if they ever decided to mass produce the 4005 again I would seriously consider a remortgage.
  18. Regarding the cabinet - if there's no interest would you consider shipping to Ireland? Just curious as to the following specs - Power - Impedance - Weight
  19. Hi Everyone, I see a lot of old fender basses on this site for sale for lots and lots of money. Why are they commanding such high prices? are they THAT much better than their modern counterparts?
  20. I’m running an 8ohm head into a 4ohm cab...not ideal I guess but so far no fires . But this is my practice amp so I’m not pushing it hard. I understand it’s better to have too low (as far as 1/2) than to high for valves ?
  21. The Barefaced ‘10’ series works great with valve amps . I use a two10 with my Ashdown ctm100 , sounds sweet...as for tips ? Well I usually keep the gain around 9-10 o clock and crank the master up to 3 o clock . It’s a lovely clean warm sound . It’s just 100w but the thing about valve amps is they sound better under pressure..if you really want some fun go out and get a Low wattage valve amp like 20-50w . Old guitar valve amps work really well . I have a 50w old Carslbro guitar amp that sounds sublime with a bass (just make sure you use a bass cab or else...pop)
  22. Well I was only able to try it out in the store but it sounded p bassey to me 😂. No seriously, it seemed to have lots of warm thump , pickups very hot in the midrange and low end. Not as bright or as ‘Kim Deal’ as my sandberg California (in passive mode) but that just could be the amp set up, cabinet , strings etc. Neck didn’t seem as chunky as other p basses I’ve played, really really comfortable . The finger board had a nice glosssy finish while the back of the neck had a really smooth satin finish . Tuning heads and hardware etc all seemed solid .
  23. Absolutely no reason to be forking out for a US fender with these on the market. I’ve owned a few us one in the past , these are nicer
  24. If it’s anything like what I played today I strongly recommend one.
  25. Played a MIM p bass at a music store today (player series, mable neck). I am VERY impressed. . Gorgeous neck, great punchy tone , excellent finish and build quality throughout. They’ve really come on IMO.
