  1. Still can’t beat 4 x kt88 at back end
  2. I used 12AT7 valves when I had the terror bass , makes it much less ‘gainey ‘ and clean sounding . They have about 60% of the gain of the 12AX7
  3. Probably the 1st gen either 500 or 1000w imo they were nearly too loud and aggressive sounding. They dialed back the power to 250/500w and added a clean channel . Should be more ‘multipurpose ‘
  4. I’m in a situation where I play bass for various ‘groups’ of musicians (due to lack of bassists ) so I’m usually introducing one insecure diva to another ... usually end in tears with me in the middle (the drummer is also usually in 5 other bands and doesn’t care ). I love just standing at the back of the room with a few beers on the go and playing great bass lines .
  5. The lethality of valve amps and all the warnings etc . Checking valves by banging them with a pencil etc. they are the equivalent of steam locomotives.
  6. Because valve amps are for real men and are meant to be heavy, that’s why 😃
  7. The dreaded p v j argument or active v passive argument.?
  8. Once again I’m in a band where I have to pour oil in the waters and once again it’s a guitarist and Vox. Is this something that goes hand in hand with the low end ? I just think we’re a non egotistical breed (John waters excluded)
  9. I went after the guy I sold my gen 1 to to see if he’d sell it back ...serious sellers remorse
  10. Just looking at the latest Terrorbass offering from Orange. Clean switch 250/500W output surge protection AX7/AT7 input stage. Look really really good. I had the first gen, while it was a great sounding amp I had reliability issues with it (which were sorted by an amp tech). Wondering if anyone has tried this yet?
  11. Yeah...I'm not sure about those, its very early days yet, time will tell an the verdict of those tube amps, almost pulled the trigger on the 50t when they were going cheap on Kennys site in Scotland.
  12. Had rehearsal with my ‘rig’ tonight . Very interesting tones from it . Meaty midrange , sounds great with a p bass, throaty. Not the deepest lows in the world but I have other amps that can do that . I’m leaving well enough alone 😃
  13. Was also considering the GK 115 cab. lightweight and just £264, has a tweeter. Must sell off something first.(Dem's the rules)
  14. Let me know when it arrives as to what its like.
  15. They have a nice look to them, 'vintagey' . I'm only looking for something as a back up. I think for occasional use they should be fine...at the same time I want something that will sound reasonably good. Sound quality instead power is what I really need.
  16. Hi all , looking for a reliable and cheap 1x15 backup. The Ashdown Toneman looks good ...is it ?? Seems to in the same price range as the Harley Benton range on Thomann.
  17. I hope they fixed the gremlins in the power supply..I had one of the older ones that died mid gig...twice !
  18. Are these guitar or bass amps , I know people use these for guitar but can they be used for bass also ...what’s the story with them ?
  19. I run my AH-500-7 through a Barefaced Two10 and its as powerful a rig as I'll ever need.
  20. I own a couple of British made valve amps and what I love about them is that they very fixable (and sound fantastic to boot) . its encouraging that there are still plenty of good techs around where they can be serviced. If you take basic care of them they are a lot sturdier than people think. Not a light lift though !
  21. If you play in a covers band in Ireland you'll be asked to play either Thin Lizzy or some IRA rebel song....No matter what the occasion.
  22. Its unfortunate that a lot of manufacturers have moved their manufacturing facilities to the Far East to cut cost. I find with new off the shelf stuff has a 'domestic appliance' feel to it. Like its just made to do a job, once broken you just chuck it and buy a new one. I wouldn't be confident that they can be easily repaired or serviced. ...but I could be wrong.
  23. I actually went from using an Orange Terror bass 500 and an Ampeg PF350 back in time to a Trace Elliot because I missed the tone of them and felt that they were more solidly constructed. (Had an awful time with the Orange Terror bass) . Previous to those I had a Trace 7215SMC for ages and it never missed a beat.
  24. The AH-500-7 is 'not too bad' as weight goes. Around 19kg, compared to an SVT its feather light.
