1.
Useful if doing a completed item search is beyond you.
The time period avavilable now for viewing completed listings has been reduced from 90 days to 30 days.
2.
Yep, £400-450 is probably the best you're likely to get at the moment; it was the original budget Warwick model, after all. And it's almost certainly not a bubinga body - I think most were maple, with maybe some made of ash.
I thought the Corvette standard was the budget model? Is a £700 instrument really a budget model though? I think the Fortress sold for £1K new in the 90's
3. I'm just off to register bassrescue.com - that idea is a winner
4.
Yes a bit of TLC and it sings again. Poor little thing was just left to rot in the corner of rehersal room. Apparantly someone had dumped it years and years ago and everyone else had vultured its strings, electrics knobs and switches leaving it pretty bare bone. Even one of the tuning pegs has been bent at 45 degrees!Such a nice bass to play too, really light and neck is really fast as you've said before. For me its nice to have a 4 string after owning 5 strings for years!
Please stop it, you're breaking my heart here.
5. Nice work Greg, another old Ibanez is given a new lease of life. I'll sleep better knowing that.
6. You said it, there are a weird lot on ebay who will ask loads of questions regarding an item and then forget to bid. Short attention span or something? Or my personal favourite are the people that wait until your listing ends without a bid and then hit you with a lowball offer. Before I knew how to block bids from certain countries I would delete their bids and then they would send me aggressive messages in pigeon english, which was actually quite amusing.
7. I'd be interested in seeing pics of the finished de-fret but I don't know much about the second hand value of those Yamahas.
8.
I got this Ibanez RB850 all wired up and working, has a pretty decent sound , doesnt really sound like anything in particular. Neck pickup is pretty deep and mellow and bridge pickup growly and middy. Not bad sound for a cheap 26 year old bass!
Post some pics when you get a chance, please.
9.
What a disappointment! I was hoping for a thread on this...
lol - so funny reaverman - is your mexican P bass the roger waters P in your avatar? Just curious to what this bass is like as it's one of the only fenders I like. Black on black on maple
10.
Thanks for your help guys! Really appreciate it! Megallica - it's apparently in a pawn shop so I'm guessing they have no idea how to treat an instrument! And also why it's probably lacking so heavily on the description! Matt - after reading your comments I've managed to find the same bass but in black. I swear I spent the whole day hunting through all the models to no avail. Where've you been all my life! http://en.euroguitar.../65/143545.html Are they really worth £500 new? Not that that means a great deal but always helps to know. Also, is this the Billy Gould model? I know little about him other than he goes to war with his bass and gets one hell if a unique sound! Any reviews? Is it worthwhile for £250? Cheers guys! Joel
Apparently Billy Gould played an IGB-600 Integra, I was a bit of a fan circa Introduce Yourself - Angel Dust era but wasn't really aware of the instruments they played. Found this blog which is quite interesting http://ariabasses.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/billy-goulds-aria-integra-bass-for-sale.html and if you have a lot of time on your hands you could trawl through these posts http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/aria-aria-pro-ii-club-306388/
11.
You can get a used German Warwick Corvette for the price you paid for the new later model rockbass warwick. The quality of the german corvette is good and it feel and play like a proper warwick.
I bought an active fretless Corvette Rockbass in 2008(ish) and for the same price as I bought a second hand German Covette $$ on this site a few years later.
12.
Well I opted for a Warwick rockbass. I only really got it as it was 5 string and I've been wanting a 5'er for a while now. To be honest I would have taken any budget 5'er. Only issue is that after playing this for a few days I realise that 5's just ain't for me :-( duh!!!!!!!
Don't want to sound patronising but you should give the 5'er more of a chance and maybe try it on some different material. It worked really well for me when I was playing harder rock music but it took me a while to get past the first string not being an E and having to transpose my parts down a string. Saying that I haven't played a 5'er now for 3 or 4 years but do miss it from time to time.
13. Noel is very knowledgable on all things Aria, he'll be along soon. Maybe it's just me but any seller who pictures instruments sitting on the ground, to me makes me think he doesn't look after them very well. I've heard great things about the Integra range and like some of the tones that Faith no more's bassist gets from his.
14.
The Steve Harris strings nearly put me off flats for life. I love roto rounds but they just don't make nice flats.
The only flats I've ever tried were rotosounds and they didn't do much for me. They sounded like my roundwounds after six months of play... I tend to use D'addario Prosteels or Warwick red labels these days.
15.
1980 Catalogue - http://brochures.yok...0/en_index.html 5 or 6 different catalogues on this page - http://brochures.yok....com/index.html
Thanks for the links chaypup - some models there I never knew existed.
16. I seem to remember he auditioned for the gig in Metallica - they showed footage of his attempt at For whom the bell tolls in the Some kind of monster documentary.
17. I caught the vinyl bug about four years and very hastily sold all my cds to fund the addiction. Then found that quite a few albums never got vinyl releases or were released in small numbers and now sell for loads of money. I do spend more money on music now as I do enjoy collecting vinyl more than cds and the listening experience is more enjoyable.
18. I don't think so but I'd be interested to see them if they do exist - I love early Yamahas.
19. I went from Warwick Corvette Rockbass to Corvette Standard to Corvette $$ and they all had different necks that took me a while to adjust too. I tend to play fatter profile necks now and love the feel of the older Ibanez Roadstars. 40mm nut width and a fuller profile. My Aria SB has a 42mm nut and quite a flat profile which I have also gotten used to The Yamaha RBX550M, RBX270 and BBN4 were nice to play and somewhere in the middle of Jazz and P territory, I'm guessing 40mm nut width with a full profile. These were too slim for me but I bought them second hand before trying them out. 90's Mexican Jazz Bass Yamaha RBX 800A Warwick Fortress One Schecter Stiletto Custom 4 Bass Collection SB310 I would like to try an Ibanez ATK and a Fender Roger Water Signature P bass as I read that they have chunky necks but I'd like to make sure I like their sounds before buying one.
20. I have never owned that particular model, the RB850 (I think) but I have owned a couple of these Roadstar basses and they are really nice to play with IMHO the best necks. There is an online catalogue archive for Ibanez guitars and basses here: http://s93105080.onlinehome.us/Ibanez-Catalogs/ From what I can tell the RB850 was introduced in 1985 and from what I've read the J6 pickups are very well regarded.
21. This was the socket set I bought for my RBX 550 bass, Homebase sell it for a tenner and it's decent quality. http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=525857
22.
Yeah that may be a plan. Its a bass I acquired over 10 years ago and not seen any info about them, other than a very few ads that pop up that say there were made in Taiwan in the 90's.The condition is fair, its got 20 odd years worth of little knocks but nothing major. The truss rod needs adjusting though as there is a considerable bow to the neck even with 50 - 110 strings on. The adjustment isnt an allen key like most basses but some kind of socket screw down where the neck meets the body. Dont suppose anyone with an old Yammy knows what tool is needed for this adjustment?
I had to buy a socket set specifically for adjusting the action on my old Yamaha RBX bass, I'll have a look tomorrow and see what the sizes are as the end of the truss rod is recessed into the neck and quite tricky to access.
23. Within the Warwick and Aria range there is so much variation of neck width and profile from one model to the next. My 90's Fortress had a really narrow and slim neck profile but when Warwick dropped wenge as the neck material, the neck profiles changed to a more chunky feel.
24. I haven't seen many of the RBX5's around on the second hand market to be honest. I think I managed to sell my RBX550 and RBX800 for about £200 each but it depends on what condition your bass is in. If it was me, I'd keep the RBX5 and save for the SR300. There are some Yamaha fans on these boards so you could always put an ad for it here.
25. Great tone, playing and track choice
