I would beg to differ . If you listen to the production on Dehumaniser in terms of the audio engineering , there is, the same exaggerated upper treble and lower bass frequencies as Metallica's Black album, giving the Sabbath album the same kind of scooped - out sound , and the density of the arrangements and overall style of some songs is also very evocative of Metallica's music of that era , to my ears at least . I was around at the time and I remember being struck by how derivative the Sabbath album sounded . Not a surprising direction to take considering the millions of records Metallica were shifting at the time .
I listened to a few dio era sabbath tunes recently and thought that the dehumanizer tunes sounded more like a rough demo than the production on heaven and hell, mob rules and the devil you know. Regarding metallica they went from thrash metal act with progressive tendencies to a stadium rock act in the space of two years, which to me seemed a bit too calculated. I mean if you listen the last single from the justice album one to the first single from their fifth album enter sandman and there is a big style change.
Funnily enough , I always thought the last Sabbath " reunion " album with the Dio lineup that came out just over twenty years ago , Rehumanizer , suffered from trying to sound too much like Metallica's Black album , which was selling millions at that time . Thankfully , this new material sounds free of those kind of commercial influences and is only trying to sound like Sabbath .
Cant say I hear any similarities in those two albums the metallica disc is an over produced sell out while dehumanizer is dark and raw sounding. If I was looking for a commercial sabbath album itd be never say die or seventh star There are a few good tracks on metallicas fifth album but the direction from justice to the black album seemed a bit like abandoning their past for an mtv friendly sound
Why?
I'm just saying it doesn't seem legal for a shop owner/employee to post cctv footage on the internet. This was just copied and pasted from this site I found http://ico.org.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/cctv "CCTV operators are not allowed to disclose images of identifiable people to the media - or to put them on the internet - for entertainment. Images released to the media to help identify a person are usually disclosed by the police."

Posting ccttv images on a public forum seems a bit wrong to me

What to do when things are seemingly impossible
megallica replied to timmo's topic in General Discussion
It'll get easier though, if you stick at, learning scales and theory will make things easier in the long run. I can remember how daunting it all is at first, we've all been there. -
I like the bass tone in the OP. Don't think it suits the music though in this case. I'm more shocked by the singer - isn't that the old drummer from Entombed?!
Yeah you're right he did play drums, write guitar parts and "sing" on the second Entombed album. They recorded a documentary of their American tour from 2002 that's quite interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfXWz2_SVK0
Hang on, just a minute - what's wrong with this bass tone again, exactly..? I quite like it!
I suppose I liked the more gritty bass tone on the Supersh*tty and Payin' the dues albums, just my personal preference.
I very much disagree. Strings make a big difference, at least as much as an amp does, and more than the pickups do. I've used rotosound rotos on my basses before, and I wasn't pleased. They are OK to begin with, but they die a death after about a month. I don't gig, and I only play a few hours a week, so why is a set of strings going dead in a month? The only thing which led me to buying more was the price, and the fact that I couldn't afford more expensive ones, which is obviously a false economy. I never use them anymore, and I've heard a couple other people having bad experiences with them too. Maybe their more expensive strings are better, but even a £14 set of strings should last more than a month, am I not right? I won't buy cheap strings. I just won't. It's a false economy, i've done it, I wasn't pleased, and I won't be doing it again.
Me too, they sounded really dull right out of the packet. I suppose how long your £14 set of strings will last depends on how you play, how often you play and how much you sweat

I know it's all personal taste but listening to this song which I really like and the dead bass tone really sticks out. I've heard all the James Jamerson stories and can appreciate that some players don't like anythiing but low end thump but for me dead strings sound awful on a recording. Any other nominations for what you might deem a crap bass sound? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgHHFKpxjKs

I always had fun playing Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer on my fretless - not sure if Tony Levin recorded it with a fretless or not.
-
I think Live after death and Cliff em all are the main reasons I started playing bass. My vhs copies of those are pretty much worn out now. Like the set for the Maiden England release - watched the Raising Hell release recently it's not in the same league as the other releases but it's a lot of fun.
Perhaps not in a 5 or 6 string format though. Those Arias are great basses but they do sound a little nasal by comparison to a pimped Toby.
Fair point - I really like the tone of my SBR-80 and the only Toby Pro I tried was totally stock and sounded a bit bland but tone is subjective. Aria do a 5 string SB bass but it's £2000 -ish so a little out of my price range. http://www.ariauk.com/aria-sb-1000-5b-bass-guitar/

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
megallica replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Nah, there were loads like that in the mid-80s. There are as many shapes of roadstar as you can dream up.
I have some pretty crazy dreams - seriously I've been looking through the old online Ibanez catalogues and cant see this headstock shape anywhere. The ebay seller doesn't know which model it is either unfortunately. -
The thru necked Toby Pro's are great value. They didn't skimp on the wood, just the electronics and hardware. Replace the bridge and preamp with upmarket versions and you'll have a great gigging bass. I was very impressed by how comfortable they were.
But for that sort of money you could afford an 80's Aria SB through neck bass with great quality electronics and hardware. Maybe rednecks with children called Jackson were angling for a guitar to play their Skynyrd tunes on?

I've never seen this shape of headstock on an Ibanez Roadstar - is it a transitional model from Roadstar to Soundgear?
It's mostly influenced by the Burns (Black) Bison Basses from the early 60s.
I knew I'd seen a similar body shape before - I think it was an article in a guitar/bass magazine, I've never seen one in the flesh. -
Hello Japcrappers! Any ideas what this is? It's a friend's. Sorry if one has been ID'd in the thread already, but it's a bit long to read through...
It could use a few more pointy edges I think - reminds me of a bc rich in a way This would pre-date heavy metal as well -
Metallica can't be angry anymore as they're now a family friendly metal band. Megadeth aren't angry anymore because Dave and Junior are born again Christians. Anthrax have always been too comedic to ever be taken seriously IMHO. Slayer are just going through the motions.
Metallica's James and Lars are very family focussed but the St Anger and Death magnetic albums are the angriest material they've recorded since 1988, maybe these albums aren't heavy by today's standards but compared to their 90's alternative output they seem to be heading in the right direction. Dave Mustaine has always been a christian, their 1986 album peace sells has the line "What do you mean I don't believe in god, I talk to him everyday".

Lombardo's been in and out of the band a few times now. He left in 86, 92 and now he's out again. I'm guessing his motivation to rejoin in 2001 was money motivated. The last couple of albums were really good I thought but I really hated the nu-metal phase of Diabolus and God hates us all so it's all personal preference. Suicidal were one of the first crossover bands to appeal to punk and metal fans but they kind of lost me after the Suicidal for life album which was a bit too polished. The debut, Join the army, How will I laugh and Lights camera were very creative.

Most hateful song on your covers bands set list?
megallica replied to Dave Tipping's topic in General Discussion
This will probably put you off your tea - I couldn't eat for several days and considered chucking myself off a bridge - but I once heard in a shop on a CD of bagpipe music. It was possibly the most horrific moment of my life. Even the main riff was played on that horrid instrument - in fact I'm off to throw up just thinking about that awful day.
Eye of the tiger played on bagpipes? Why would a shop want all their customers to run away in pain? Most hated covers - sweet home alabama - jumping jack flash - what's going on - I can see clearly now - brown eyed girl - wonderwall -
Ibanez soundgear is the first that springs to mind. Also, I had a '94 passive Warwick Corvette (german) that had a ridiculously thin neck.
The wenge neck Warwicks (Corvette and Fortress) I tried were thin with a shallow profile but the ovangkol necks feel a little more chunky.

Looks very nice, is that the original hard case too? Liking the different fret inlays If you post the serial number one of the lads here will date the bass for you -
Don't sweat it. It wasn't meant to be. Think of it this way, you could have got an audition and maybe even as far as a few gigs, having learned the whole repertoire, to find out then that they are a bunch of curts. At least this way the band argument has already happened and you didn't waste any time
I agree with this - whoever replied to your email was a rude jerk and I personally wouldn't want to spend my time in his company. You had a narrow escape I reckon.

Post some pics when you get a chance. I didn't know they did a two pickup active bass till I googled SBR-150.
