1.
Where you happy with the bass before and indeed after? Did you research what others were fetching?
It was a pretty obscure model of a bass that has been out of production for 20+ years, so I did search completed listings on ebay but this didn't turn up any results. I have had some great buying experiences on basschat as well but I was pretty naive when I started out on basschat I was happy with the bass before and to a lesser extent after.
 2. When I started to use this site I posted an items wanted add for a failrly obscure bass. I was offered the bass for a certain price and I bought this bass off a forum member and weeks later when googling for information on this model found a thread where they mentioned that they bought it off ebay for less than a quarter that they charged me.
 3.
Yep they were. I've still got one of those Aria SB900's in that red finish that I bought new back in the 80's.
Love that red paduak finish to Aria SB basses - mine is an oak finish which is nice but I prefer the red
 4. Looks very nice, I'm guessing it was built by Matsumoku they look a bit like 80's Aria's
 5.
Now there's something you don't see every day! Very nice score. I've never seen one before, aside from catalog shots.
Confusingly Ibanez have a 1985 RB760 which is the more Rickenbacker type shape and this 1986 RB760 with the P and J pickups.
 6. It doesn't look as bad as it sounds. Individually I like both of these basses but this mix and match look - not sure... 7. This arrived Monday - an active 1986 Ibanez Roadstar RB760. I've been looking for a new Roadstar for a few months now since selling my RB720 last year. The active pickups do boost the sound and the neck is so easy to play, if a little on the narrow side. The finish is Gun Metallic but it looks like a very dark metallic green. 8.
Roadstar - pretty sure it was a Roadstar II rather than a Roadster or I would've been after it.
Yeah! My Roadstar arrived yesterday, it's a 1986 RB760GM, active P and J pickups finished in dark metalic green.
 9. 10.
Roadstar - pretty sure it was a Roadstar II rather than a Roadster or I would've been after it.
I think this is the bass I bought on ebay last week. I'll post a pic when it arrives.
 11.
Righto....I've been around my local music shops (and cash converters etc) putting my greasy paws on a few instruments but I haven't managed to get my hands on a BBN4III yet (as recommended by geoffbyrne). There were a few Squier P bass Affinity's and I noticed the neck is quite slim (to me anyway...). The fender website specs for the Affinity and Vintage modified P basses listed the neck measurements as identical for these two basses, can anyone confirm if they are exactly the same? I noticed the Affinity seemed to have a questionable build quality, I could see that some of the screws weren't seated properly etc. I read a forum post where someone described the Affinity as a 'squier within a squier' and I could kind of see it. Unless of course this was just a poor example. Next to the affinity was an Encore P bass (the headstock read 'Encore a john hornby sk ewes product). Now i know these are cheapos but to me it looked and felt solid, it had a much thicker neck and felt like a very sturdy piece of kit. The neck looked dead straight (to the naked eye) and it kind of just felt right. Of course you can see that the hardware/electronics aren't the best but I've seen some other threads of people using these as the start for a project bass, any views on that? The ticket price was £50, they go for less that on ebay but are these like other brands where the manufacturing gets moved around over the years and the quality varies? I wanted to start off again with something half decent but I really liked the feel of this thing....does anyone have the nut width and neck thickness for a BBN4III? I've spotted one of them also and am trying to decide whether to take a punt on the BBN4III and buy it sight unseen or go for the cheapie encore?
I've owned a few Yamaha basses over the years and really enjoy playing them and love the sounds but when you find a bass that just feels right then that's the bass you should really be considering.
 12.
Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground Ozric Tentacles - Live Underslunky Try as I might, I can never shake off the influence these two albums have had on me. They are probably part of my DNA by now, the first cuts are the deepest!
I like the first and third Violent Femmes album but could never get into the Hallowed Ground e.p.
 13.
Rather nice price for a MIJ Ibanez, if anyones in West Lothian or doesn't mind driving a bit. http://www.gumtree.c...itar/1005891760
Do you remember what model Ibanez it was?
 14. Megadeth - So far, so good... So What! NoFX - Heavy petting zoo Poison idea's Feel the darkness, Metallica's ...And justice for all, Bad Religion's Suffer, Nirvana's Nevermind and Pink Floyd's The Wall would also need to be mentioned though
 15.
I remember them . They were a bit relentless too , especially in those days before the Speed Metal Olympics were as developed as they are now . All these bands sound like a right bloody racket aimed at 14 year old boys to me , to be honest with you . I've heard Jason play close up , and he can do so much more than grind out these riffs , it's just a shame he never seems to get the chance . His choice , I suppose . This track is eminently forgettable Metal By Numbers . Could and should do better .
I think I am still 14 at heart
 16.
I've got a couple expensive basses but nothing comes within a country mile of the two £120 yamaha bbG5's I have.
I played a lot of gigs and recorded with a BBG5S and the tone was exactly what I wanted.
 17.
I think Jason Newstead is a very good hard rock / metal bass player , but he never seems to have had the best vehicle to display his talents . Metallica always seemed way too dense and thrashy most of the time for him to show off what he could do , albeit with some very notable exceptions such as Enter Sandman , Unforgiven and some of the other more commercial tracks . It would be nice to hear Jason in a bit calmer and more melodic environment like an " old school " hard rock group . He seemed to cope admirably with being in Ozzys band for a time . I think he would really thrive in that kind of an environment .
The best vehicle for him to display his talents was Flotsam and Jetsam, he wrote most of the songs on their first two albums and played some great lines on the debut Doomsday for the deceiver.
 18. I grew upon 80's Metallica and some of their recent stuff is okay too. I do have a lot of respect for Jason's playing and his Flotsam and Voivod albums were very good. This track is not the most inventive but it's pretty decent. Three things really bug me though, the lyric "I'll make the devil sell his soul" is pure cheese and the drummer has "Jason's Back" written on the back of his jacket and lastly the devil horns doesn't work with this type of music. I can kinda see why Jason's writing didn't make it onto Metallica albums (I thnk he got co-writing credits on three songs in his 14 years in the band).
 19.
£280? Someone scored a bargain there!
Seems to have been relisted - it's not mine btw but if I had £280 to spare I'd be bidding on it.
 20. This SB460 just sold on ebay - very tempted to put a bid on it. 21. Great find and it looks almost new too. I'm gasing over the paduak red SB basses at the moment
 22. Looks like a great job - Andy does great work. I've owned a few Yamaha's over the years BBN4, BBN5, BBG5S, RBX270, RBX550M and an RBX800A, hard to find a better instrument in the same price category.
 23. Blazers do appear frequently on ebay and on basschat - I'm sure you'll find another when your finances are sorted.
 24. Sorry to hear this Brian - sounds like a very difficult decision you've had to make. All the best in your future endeavours
 25. I had a white one that I sold in 2010 - very nice basses. The pointy headstock does look very 80's but that's not a negative in my book. This wasn't mine but identical https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_1LQDNiIcA
