1.
ARGH!!! Why does my birthyear bass has to come up in the exact time i've spent all my funds! Are you sure you don't want trades? Perhaps a Eden D112XLTN cab? If you don't sell it until the end of the month i'll take it, you just need to sort out a way to ship it to Portugal (and make me a small discount ) But why am i iluding myself, Truckstop should have it in his hands by now... Cheers
Probably right there...
2. I think they use D'addario strings on their basses I think they were on my BBN4, BBN5 and BBG5S. I love their prosteels
3. Ibanez Ergodyne basses - I imagine some ex employee spiked the water supply with LSD. Double neck basses Reliced Fenders That rusty looking Warwick abomination
4.
SB-LTD? Wasn't released until '88. If you were looking at the SB range in '83, the new model you'd have been most interested in was the SB-R150. First RBX models were released in '86. If you were looking at the Yamaha range in '83 it would have had to be a BB, and the models of the day were the 3000 variants.
Cheers for the clarification
5. I have just got myself an Aria SBR-80 from 1983 which is worth a look. I had a Ibanez Roadstar II RB720BK from 1983 a couple of years ago and still regret selling it, lovely maple neck on that one. I'm not sure when they launched the Yamaha RBX 800 but it was a great 80's bass.
6. Andy fitted a fretless board to my first bass about ten years ago and did a great job for a very reasonable price. Had a chat about AC/DC with him as he was going to the Milton Keynes Bowl gig that weekend. See there are benefits to living in Milton Keynes lol
7. My best friend was learning guitar and pushed me to buy a bass, we'd sit about watching Live after death and Cliff em all on vhs videos and drinking cider. For me steve harris and cliff burton lines would really stand out from the music unlike a lot of other metal bassists.
8.
Dennis Dunaway, Bob Daisley, Paul McCartney, Duncan Sanderson.
Dennis Dunaway has some really inventive lines on those early Alice Cooper albums.
9.
Indeed it will. By the way, your R80 (almost identical to the Elite II) has a 40mm nut and 18mm bridge pitch, and the slimmer/shallower, more "C" shaped neck. The 900, of which the R80 is a revision, had a 45mm nut and 16mm bridge pitch, and the fatter/deeper, more "U" shaped neck. The 900 and the 1000 used identical timbers and dimensions (well, the second version of the 1000 as introduced late '78).
Thanks for the info - the nut on my R80 is 42mm, but what's 2mm between friends lol
10. Thanks guys, its a seven digit serial begining with a 3 so it will be 1983 then. Confusing as the serial number ends with 85...
11.
By the way, you sure about that year of manufacture?
The serial number ends in an 85 so I think it is from then. Although the site at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aria_(guitar_company)#Aria_Pro_II_Guitars says they were only made between 1979 and 1983. I did ask the seller and he bought it second hand in the late 80's, so he wasn't sure when it was made.
12.
Very nice. I had several Arias back in the '80s. My favs were an SB1000 (oak) which weighed the same as a small family car and a fabulous SB900 (walnut) fretless which I loved and the Philistines in the band hated...
What is it that makes the SB1000 so heavy, was it the difference in the weight of oak and walnut? And did the SB900 have the same neck profile as the SB1000?
13. The neck is wide but quite slim i.e. not too chunky and the string spacing is very similar to my old Schecter bass which I really liked. My favourite colour is the red padouk finish they do but I'm liking this oak too.
14. Bought this from a seller on gumtree - been looking for an Aria with a more P bass type neck. Just finished setting it up as it's been unplayed now for ten years. Lovely low action and great tonal options from both pickups. I've always wanted to try an Aria bass after seeing Cliff Burton play an SB-1000 and SB-Elite black and gold. I then found out that those models have a more Jazz bass type skinny neck and I don't really get on with that neck profile. It's an 1985 model and thankfully all orginal. 15. I have sold and traded basses that I miss later but it keeps things fresh. e.g. I owned three chunky neck Corvettes over the last five years and last year bought a Fortress which sounds great but I sold it because the neck was a bit too skinny for my tastes. If I had been in a position to try the bass out first I probably wouldn't have bought it but it was one of the basses I always wanted to own. Also I bought a Schecter Custom 5 after owning a few Schecter four strings but the string spacing on the fiver was too narrow for me to play comfortably so had to sell it on again.
16. What width is the nut on these ATK's?
17. I was looking for one of these, if I hadn't just bought an 80's Aria I'd be sending you a pm about now. Good luck with the sale. £250 is such a good price for this
18. Nice bass - I've always fancied a TRB. Wasn't the BBG4 around in the late nineties - not really vintage is it?
19.
I have one of these, great basses I paid 600 for mine with a soft case and had to spend 100 on replacing nut and various other things, these are dropping in value faster than a stone hits the ground. WHY? They are so damb good, get one now while their cheap guys because you don't know when the market might change.
I don't think it's fair to say Warwick's are dropping in value - from my experience I'd say the demand has dropped but the value is still great for a potential buyer.
20.
Thank you megallica. Nowt wrong with your eyesight!
Cheers Big Ears
21. One of the tags says £600 - that would be a great price for this bass...
22. The gumtree ad is now down, you might wanna post some pics into this thread? Love the ATK - great basses
23. buyer has got back in touch again
24. What if another BCer bought it on your behalf?
25.
Would love this but can't justify another bass, plus I can't afford it and have no space. In fact I'm not even sure why I'm in this forum... Have a bump for a beautiful bass though
Cheers Blackbird88 - I know I'll end up buying another Warwick soon enough - can't find that tone in any other instrument.
