1.
I know that about Warwick necks changes
So the modern shape is the U shape while the pre 2000 shape is the C shape? Was this when they changed from wenge to ovangkol for the majority of neck woods?
 2.
megallica - Are you referring to front-to-back thickness or width at the nut? We have many neck profiles and options, which can be seen here: http://warwick.de/mo...tID=14626&cl=EN Please let me know if you have any questions or need assistance in any way. Thanks!
Yeah sorry for being so vague, I was refering to nut width. Reading the neck dimensions on the Warwick site, if I was looking for a 44mm "special" nut width would I have to go for a custom build? Thanks
 3. Just curious if there is a Warwick with a chunky neck other than the double buck model? Most of the Warwick's I've tried have quite skinny jazz bass like necks which I don't mind but I'd rather a more Precision type width if possible.

 5. I'm tempted by the roger waters signature precision, like the black and maple look.
 6. This looks mint, I owned one in this finish and it took me ages to find an active five string with decent string spacing. I'm not much of a five string player now but this is a great buy for someone. Good luck

 8. In the late eighties when I was starting to play I would buy Guitar for the practicing musician (mainly for the bass tabs) and then bass player magazine, then bassist magazine when it came out. At the time I had a cheapo Yamaha bass and a Marshall combo which was all I could afford and I would dream about trying a Warwick or Fender bass. The adverts and reviews in magazines were what fueled my gas back then - I still remember seeing the advert for the Warwick Masterman or seeing a picture of Jack Bruce with his thumb bass and thinking one day...
 9. I can't think of any punk bands that have used fretless basses. Maybe there is a reason for this or maybe it would add to the unique appeal of your band. If you're considering a lined fretless, you might want to consider defretting a cheapo fretted bass
 10.
Was it here or TB where some fella was complaining that shop shop had made sh*te of his wheel and chipped paint under it during a setup? It's easy to botch both designs in the wrong hand, but the point is this thing is pink and I like it!
I think that was on TB
 11. I have to agree with the comments above, post 1979 Sabbath I'd recommend Heaven and hell Mob Rules Born Again Seventh Star Headless Cross Dehumanizer The devil you know (recorded as Heaven and hell) Some of Dio's solo albums are worth checking out especially Holy diver and The last in line.
 12. Good luck to you mate, my first band was a thrash band playing Metallica/Slayer/Megadeth/Pantera covers and that was where I learnt some of the basics but a lot of open e riffs do get a bit stale after a while. Thrash is still my favourite genre of music 25 years later but I do enjoy alternative styles too.
 13. Amazed this is still here, this is Rockbass money for a German made Corvette Proline with a hard case. Is it a wenge neck? I think they still used these in 1995, someone is going to get a great deal with this bass.
 14. Sorry to hear about your pet Mel, doesn't make any difference what animal it is, they soon become part of your family. I had to have my 12 year old cat put down last month after he developed tumours on his kidneys. I was really upset but the hardest thing for me was breaking the news to my 5 and 2 year old, seeing them cry was heartbreaking. For blood tests, a night in the vets, an x ray and being put down I was charged just over £400...
 15.
CH Guitars on Ebay do very cheap very good quality brand new necks for about £50
I did see these but was a bit wary about them, have you used one of these before?
 16.
I believe that the neck is what defines the quality of a bass. It depends what your budget is and indeed what bass it is but if it is a jazz or precision or a stingray type bass, you would be best off buying a new neck from Status Graphite. In my experience it is one of the most superb upgrades you can give to a bass. The cheap Squier I upgraded now sounds incredible and is gorgeous to play. They can be bought online for about £300.
I'm really only looking at using this bass for a backup and possibly a de-fret job somewhere down the line. That's why I'm looking for cheap second hand necks.
 17.
60mm seems small, likely to get something between 62-64mm much easier, and you can scrape them down easy enough.
That's what I've found - most replacement necks seem to be between 62-64mm. Would you recommend sanding down the new neck or extending the neck pocket to fit?
 18.
I suppose it depends how handy you and what tools you have. Think I would keep looking
That's what I'll probably do but if it's an easy fix I might give it a go.
 19. I have an old inexpensive bass that I'm planning on resurecting, the old neck is in an unusuable state so I'd like to find a cheap replacement. I have measured the neck pocket and it's 60mm but there is a cheap neck on ebay that I'm considering bidding on but it's 64mm wide. Should I forget about this one and keep looking or buy it and modify the neck/neck pocket to get it to fit.
 20. Great work Alex, I had a Roadstar last year and there is something really special about those vintage Jap built Ibbys. Love the necks on them too, kinda somewhere between a J and a P.
 21.
Sounds right for Machinehead, always had quality service from them.
Me too, bought a few different basses from them over the years, great stock and service every time.
 22.
Ah, but how much better would they be if they had a 5'er?
1000% better To be fair playing five or six strings takes a bit of getting used to and when you do, you find you don't have to move around the neck so much. I can see the benefit but I personally prefer a comfy four string
 23.
I think it depends on what you play and how you play... Rocking out root notes then why bother? For most other types of music, reading, improvising etc then there definitely is a reason to bother as it gives you more options and more ways to express ones self musically. Playing a 4 string feels like (what I imagine) being in a straight jacket is. Not yet at the level on the DB where I would feel comfortable wondering around the neck as my intonation goes a bit array once passed position 7 or 8. More practice required!
I can appreciate the restricted feeling going from an extended range bass to a four string but most of my bass heroes used four strings to record some ground breaking albums and if it's good enough for Steve Harris/Cliff Burton/Dennis Dunnaway etc then I can't see any boundaries really.
 24.
I have about 30 basses. I've owned multiple basses ever since one of my very first gigs playing bass when I broke a string in the opening number and had to borrow a totally inappropriate bass for my style of playing to finish the gig. I do accept that my bass ownership has gone beyond what I need and is now a "collection". At the moment I'm contemplating selling most of my 4-string basses as they no longer get any playing time which should cut the numbers down to under 15. If I was really serious about slimming down to just what I needed it would still be 6 - a 5-string fretted, 5-string fretless, 10-string (octave pairs) fretted and a backup for each.
What kind of bass did you borrow? I had a similar thing happen to me and borrowed a bass from a female bass player who had a leopard print strap on this Yamaha bass and the strap was so short it half strangled me. If I'd had a few minutes to swap straps it wouldn't have been a problem but it was mid gig and my e string snapped
 25. How are you getting on with the neck profile on the P? I like chunky neck basses but the Warwick Fortress I'm playing at the moment is so slim, I think it would take a while for me to adjust to playing anything else. Anyway - your new bass looks great and I hope your happy with it
