1.
Not feelin it. Plus MH is no Fat Mike. But don't listen to me...it actually looks pretty neat
Listening to some NoFX this morning - great band Back to the bass though, if you're not "feeling it" then you can cross it off the list at least?
2. I used to play a five string as I was keen to experiment with the extra range, I tried BEADG and EADGC tunings which were fun but after playing five strings for a few years I found that I didn't really need the extra notes and like warwickhunt said I could drop my e string down to a d if needed and this gave me all the extra notes I ever needed. The EADGC tuning was nice to experiment with and worked well with different chords and octaves of the d string. I'm happy with four strings at the moment and am thiking more about a fretless project than another five string. I also kind of hit a stumbling block when trying to read music or tab that was written for five strings and the price of new strings was an extra five quid and being scottish....
3.
This has been a source of some confusion for me. When punk first hit I totally bought the media/pr story that it was all about bands that couldn't play their instruments, and didn't bother with it. Much later I got R&R Swindle out of the library and was surprised to find that, even on Johnny B Good, the playing's not bad (and I'm assuming it was Sid playing that). It's not a ground-breaking bass line, but I wouldn't be ashamed of it. And the more Pistols tracks I've heard, the less sure I've been that they couldn't play.
I don't think Sid recorded any bass parts on Never mind the bo**ocks or R&R Swindle, I think it was Glen Matlock and Steve Jones.
4. You go see a band and spend the whole set studying the musician who plays the same instrument as you. You physically wince when you hear a musician play a "wrong" note while nobody around you notices
5. wur in scotland are ya fae
6. This is about five years old, last time I was in a gigging band.
7. Bought a Yamaha bass from 7string, bass was really well set up and securely packaged for transit. Would happily deal with again. Thanks
8. Bought a Warwick Corvette $$ a while back and met up for a coffee, great bloke, would happily deal with anyday.
9. I'm assuming that every musical instrument will have a message forum set up and don't see why anyone who is net savvy would find this humurous. I don't really care whether or not people think its funny that I browse/post on this site as it's such a great resource for bass players, I can take a bit of stick.
10. zz top - tush - great blues groove queen - crazy little thing called love - nice easy walking pattern Deep purple - smoke on the water
11. I've always like the look of the ATK range but have never had the opportunity to play one. I was reading through the thread ATK club on talkbass and have been gassing after one even more. Plus there is an ATK 400 on ebay at the mo, which is calling out to me.
12. Better man - Pearl Jam Money - Pink Floyd - not sure how this would work without the sax break Billie Jean - Michael Jackson - love the bass part but finding a singer to sing this was always a problem The boys are back in town - Thin Lizzy - I've wanted to play this live for so long Ace of spades - nobody can do the vocal justice
13. Maybe try a fretless or five string, if you're like me you might enjoy the challenge and the different sounds. My playing/listening style is mainly rock so I'll have at transcribing some reggae/motown/soul music just to change things up.
14. Welcome to the boards Matt - nice to have a shop owner taking customer comments onboard regarding stock.
15. Bought Paul's Warwick Fortress One and would definately deal with him again. Cheers fella
16. Great basses as mojobass said
17. I used to own one of these and was very happy with the sounds and playability of the bass If you're looking for a lightweight five string you should maybe consider a Schecter?
18.
I do quite like the look of that. Not sure what i would do with that extra string though Eyes are still peeled.
I'm not really a five string player to be honest, I did use it as a thumb rest 99.9% of the time. The string spacing on the four string model is a bit more generous too, which is handy when you play fingerstyle.
19. If you can find a Schecter Custom 4 - they come with emg's and are quite reasonable second hand,if you can find one. This is a pic of the five string I sold last year.
20. new pics added as the weather has brightened up
21. I've seen a few lined fretless Roadsters on ebay in the last 12 months. Also a Yamaha RBX 800F or was it a RBX 800AF? My first half decent fretless was an active Warwick Rockbass although that was unlined. Also just buy a cheap bass and defret it.
22. £280 for a German Corvette - I paid more for my old Corvette and the seller had drilled a new hole so he could move the volume control! It's definately a buyers market at the moment
