1.
YES! There had to be some NOFX in here
Progressive punk too, don't tell the genre police....
 2.
Ramones were never a punk band - just a fast rock band with short songs. If any US band can get any credit for stirring future punk imaginations I guess the New York Dolls could have an honourable mention. Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers were pretty much adopted as punks because they spent so much time over here. The reast of the US bands that tagged along coined the horrible 'new wave' epithet so beloved of Radio 1 and BBC DJ's when they were forced to play things they so obviously detested. Post '79 most genuine punk bands had floundered and/or turned into cheap parodies of themselves. The Americans were merely copping a style of music. Saying that punk lives on is a bit like saying genuine Mod or Ska or Rock 'n' Roll is still with us. Sure, there are bands playing this type of music but they are just copyists not the 'real thing'. I don't have anything against them (I, unashamedly, play in a covers band) I just can't accept that they are 'punk' bands. Maybe you had to 'live the life' in the late '70's to understand it.
The punk music I grew up with is now considered old school (Bad Religion, NoFX, Suicidal, DK, Poison Idea etc), the youngsters discovering punk music now are more inclined to gravitate towards a band of their generation. In the same way that I considered the first wave of punk music to sound dated and safe, the next generation will look for something that is relevant to them. It's arrogant to think that the music you grew up with is real and everything else is just done by copyists.
 3.
What about Canadian punk bands ;-) Also, some Detroit greatness, such as Kick out the Jams by MC5 and Loose by Stoogies
can't forget DOA
 4.
There are no American punk bands. . .
I had a silly notion that the Ramones started the punk scene
 5.
Have to agree with this - most of the nominations so far are not what I'd call 'punk'. As an example Suicidal Tendancies were formed a good 2 years after the last thrashings of punk had finished. . .
You mean punk finished in 1985, why did nobody tell me?
 6. Rancid - first three albums Dead Kennedys Poison Idea NoFX Suicidal Tendencies
 7. Like it, reminds me a bit of the misfits and dead kennedys.
 8. Looks great Thomas, you know that I'm a little bit jealous of your Ibanez collection Especially 70's and 80's Ibanez sell it to me
 9.
Done it! By Jove I've done it! Having owned and sold an SB301, SB310, SB320, SB325 and SB330 followed by a 4-year gap with no SGC Nanyo action in my instrument rack, I finally managed to find the SB320 of my dreams. Memory often plays tricks, and I was a little concerned when it arrived in case my memory of how well these basses feel and play had become a bit rose-tinted. I needn't have worried ... this is a simply beautiful bass which sits very comfortably alongside my existing collection of basses. I'll try to find the time to take some photos this weekend.
Be interested to see the pics Jack
 10. Wow - lovely bass, not what I'm looking for at the moment but this will make some lucky bass player really happy.

 13. The red leads that come from both pickups are soldered to the battery, the neck pickup is quite noticably louder.
 14.
yes, why did they put a pickguard? Just route it nicely and show the body as it is.
exactly
 15.
is that a switch in the top right of the recess? it looks like all or most of the wires have been cut off it? it might sound daft but the neck pickup hasnt been wired so its active all the time and the bridge pup wired passive hence the huge difference in volume?
yes, should have said there is a switch which doesn't do very much, and now you've pointed it out, there is nothing connected to it. Yeah maybe the neck pickup is active and the bridge is passive. I'll follow the cables from the bridge pickup and see if they attach to the battery.
 16. I boought a second hand Ibanez Roadster a couple of weeks ago and it is really nice to play and sounds very good too. The first owner replaced the Dimarzios with EMG's, I then bought the bass from the second owner who didn't know much about the pickups. I've been playing around with the pickup controls and noticed that the P neck pickup sounds very loud and the bridge pickup is very quiet. If I turn the volume on the neck pickup off the bridge pickup sound is almost non existent. I've had a look inside the control cavity and there are no loose wires or anything obviously wrong but it's a bit beyond me to be honest. I should mention that, first thing I did was change the battery, still the same, Is there anything glaringly obvious that I've missed? 17. I don't like the asymmetrical (yes I had to look the word up) headstock and the scratch plate looks a bit naff but I would still own one of these. I would have to remove that pickguard
 18.
I know they are not known for their passive basses, but these are particular favorites of mine. Thin necks, good weight, very versatile and I got great deals on both.
I never really appreciated the design of the Fortress Flashback when it first launched but now find it quite attractive. I would like to try out a Fortress Masterman five string one day.
 19.
Hi BC lovers ! Here is a few pics of my new Bass Collection II DB53E, made in 1991 or maybe 92'.
That's nice, did you buy it in the UK?
 20. A German Fortress in fair condition should fetch around £350 to £400, I thought they stopped making the Fortress in the late 90's though?
 21.
Yeh the old days of having an open stage to allow stage diving seems like a different world now.
I suppose most heavy bands are a bit nervous after the Randy Blythe arrest and trial last year. http://www.nme.com/news/lamb-of-god/69030 I do miss these kind of gigs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuXURCDIO5o
 22.
Bloody fantastic it was. I didn't think much of the EP material when I first heard it, but the songs work very well live. Jason is a great front man, continually engaging with the crowd and talkative between songs. The highlight for me was an incredible blast through Whiplash, and we also got two Motorhead covers as encores - Love Me Like A Reptile and We Are The Road Crew. Snippets of My Friend of Misery and the 'Die! Die!' section of Creeping Death were also played during other songs. Jason played a couple of his usual Sadowsky J basses throughout (apart from one song he played on guitar) and had his standard deep Motown sound going on. Amps were Ampeg of course, but he seemed to be playing through an Orange 8x10, laying on it's side. Just a great, fun night of unpretentious, straightforward old school thrash (with a bit of Sabbath thrown in). A tight-as-arseholes band in a glorious, intimate venue. I'm glad I went. Bravo that man!
Sounds like a great night, they played we are the road crew at Lemmy's 50th birthday party I used to have a live mp3 of that song. The rehearsal's were recorded for the garage inc album.
 23. I'll have a D please Carol and another
 24.
wow that could have been worse than it was. I bet the idiot made a speedy exit after that
The crowd do sound rightfully hacked off, surprised someone managed to get onto the stage. Not that this incident compares to the dimebag incident but it's scary that someone managed to get close enough to knock him off the stage.
 25.
In a surprising turn of events, I find myself with a ticket for tonight's Newsted show at the 100 Club.
