hi all I have got an old valve amp which has got one 8ohm output and one 16ohm output. Is there any way i can attach more than one cab for a bit more oomph? I'm guessing putting an 8 ohm cab to the 8ohm out and a 16 ohm cab to the other wouldn't be right for some reason.

blimey you have all been busy! Much appreciated. Theres some very usefull info in all that Right then this is what i think. It appears unlikely that i was putting to much pressure on a 200w speaker so i think i need to get the amp looked at as i dont think i should be getting that kind of distortion so early on in the volume stage. (there is only one volume knob ) In order to get the most volume(loudness) from the amp the cab needs maximum sensativity and this can be obtained by more speakers (the more the better?) and maximum spl(sensativity) of those speakers. So I still think a 4x10 would be best and i dont want a huge monster to lug about. still not sure about the wattage(sorry!) anything over 50w? and finally if the amp turns out to be fine i need to get somthing bigger

Maybe bass is different but i would of thought 50w would be good. The ashdown cab was 8 ohm and i v'e got a choice of 7.5 or 15 ohm outputs. i used th 7.5 ohm. I know i cant compete with the fender but hes got to turn down anyway so that we can hear the drums for a start and we have an audience left standing.

Being all valve i should be able to drive the hell out of it without any worries right?

hi i'm new here! Ive just got myself a 50 watt selmer treble'n'bass head but as its considerably louder than a 50 watt solid state i've got no idea what size cab i need for it. I tried it out with 15inch 200 watt ashdown cab and that started to fart a bit before i reached half way with the volume. I do like a bit of distort which is why i went for the 50 watt and not the 100 watt but this wasnt particularly nice and i think it was more the speaker complaining. does that seem right? I've seen a laney r410 thats within my budget which i think is 250 watt. would that extra 50 watt make the difference? I play mostly pub gigs playing rock/ indie covers and i've managed for years with 150watt ashdown combo but our guitarist is not only deaf but has serious GAS and has ended up with a 100watt fender twin! Although it is switchable to 25watt (yeah right,hes gonna wanna do that!) Any way i hope some of you can give me some idea of what i need. i hope i havent asked too many questions cheers tom
