1. Hello, I'm around here too. Have fun!
2. I used to know a guy, who just couldn't hear that he doesn't sound good. He would listen to good music, but his playing was lacking a lot of stuff, mainly rhythm. And he couldn't hear it. If you gave him tips, and he applied them - it got better, but after a while, he decided that he knows best, and he'll continue to play as he thinks ''sounds right''. Very painful if you had to listen to it... Well done for avoiding future waste of time.
3. I think this is a good example of tastefully incorporated slap into a bass solo. Early Bonamassa stuff. http://youtu.be/cGv5x7jKu0A
4. I thought you wanted one for ages?
5. And he strikes again https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/fender-stratocaster-guitar/1271762679
6. Gabor Szabo - Dreams Hungarian jazz guitarist. I think that album is from 67/68 way ahead of his time
7.
Can't beat the little Roland Bass Cubes. Still got my 10 year old one even though I hardly use it. Can't bring myself to move it on - it sounds brilliant.
+1
8. ''Do you like receiving compliments? Well, get used to it! Because that's exactly what this guitar gets you! A lot of them. *Please note, the photos don't really do it justice and it needs to be appreciated in person*'' Ha ha
9.
Seems to me that Basses 'speak' to me through their neck dimensions. Anything too small and it just feels wrong to me. It's not just about nut width either, the only Jazz bass I've retained is my 1975. Obviously it has the 1.5" nut, but having the U shape neck makes it feel substantial in the hand, so it works for me. I've also got wider nut Basses, which have deep necks (Yamaha Attitudes), and shallower necks (Fender RW Precision). Seems as long as the neck has enough wood, then I'm happy.
I feel the same. I like playing around on Jazz Basses but nice, fat P Bass neck feels right every time. I didn't get along with Marleaux Votan X-Tra - amazing quality, great looks, it just felt artificial, plastic. Also, I don't do 5 strings very well.
10. I got this in a trade recently - monster bass! One of the best basses I've ever played. Great price too.
11.
Just a question on ethics here; Is it really so wrong to scour the pages of gumtree or shpock until you find something being under sold and then to maybe ebay it some time later? I say good on you to those with eagle eyes and willingness to travel to source a bargain..............
99% of the time if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. And that’s a waste of time. If you’re willing to sacrifice that for a good deal once in a while - I can’t see anything wrong with buying stuff for a steal. If you’re doing in purely for profit, then its your call. It’s not illegal, is it?
12.
The seller hasn't replied, but there's someone in the Central belt who has a habit of picking up cheap basses on gumtree and selling them on eBay. He's lowballed me a few times on items I've been selling, and recently picked up a Squier James Johnston Jazz for £200, which he flipped for £300, advertising it as having owned it from new. I can only imagine his delight if he sees this.
I sometimes get a good deal too, but not as good as this :-) Mind you - my uncle picked up a 1974 Matamp GT100 for about £120 at a car boot sale somewhere. He didn't realize what it was until later...
13.
So is it definitely a 78 usa ? [according to the serial number anyway] or can you get Mexican and Japanese with the same numbers ?
It looks like an original. I might be wrong but I don't recall any Mexican or Japanese basses wearing Antigua color.
14.
It seems he's selling it on behalf of his father, and I don't like the idea of a possibly sentimental item being undersold by around a grand because the seller doesn't know it's true value.
I see. I think he would be happy to let it go for 500-600 anyway.
15.
I would tell him even if i was about to buy it as i'd feel guilty otherwise.
Yes, I understand - It's like a third of a price, isn't it? I am just curious about the OP as it seemed quite automatic :-) And that makes me wonder how many ''good samaritans'' are on Gumtree and if it's a good way of checking how much something is ''worth''.
16.
Located in Thurso up the top end of Scotland. Seems to be a case of he doesn't know what he has. I've messaged him to tell him what it's really worth: https://www.gumtree....&utm_source=sms
Yup, good deal. Why would you tell him what it's really worth? Is it a case of being nice? Or is it a case of ''I am not able to get it, so nobody else will''?
17. Yup, lovely bass - I bet it would make somebody very happy.
18. Bought from Pow_22 a while back - never opened the package, surplus to requirements. Here's the original thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/309580-sold-used-webstrings-flatwounds-chromes/page__p__3345513__hl__chromes__fromsearch__1#entry3345513 Price includes postage to UK mainland.
19. https://pendofsky.bandcamp.com/album/pendofsky 7th track on the album has one of my favourite slap solos of all time. It’s modern but not mainstream. It is tasteful and that’s what matters to me.
20. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/aria-pro-2-bass-guitar/1270695310
21. I like it. I bet it looks better in real life.
22. Somebody once said "learn how to slap and use it tastefully". I like it that way. Too much slap sounds like typewriting machine.
23. I've installed that set of strings on another bass - P bass also and it works fine. Bolo, hear it without amplification. Didn't really plug it in as it sounded wrong. Some basses have the truss rod adjustment screw at the bottom of the neck, and the only way you can adjust that is by taking the neck off... or unscrewing the pickguard sometimes but this bass doesn't allow it unfortunately.
24.
Now that you mention it, the only Jaco I'm somewhat familiar with is Weather Report"s "Heavy Weather". Blue
Great album :-)
