1. Oh, that happens on gumtree all the time! The worse one I've experienced is when I talked to a guy, shortly after he listed the item. He has assured me that the item will be reserved for me and we will meet soon. Then he stopped replying, just to message me a week later to say the item sold locally. I took a day off work to go and get it and all...
 2. Looking forward to hear more about it. I bet you can't wait to see what it is :-) Looks like a bargain to me.

 4. I have been introduced to this forum by silverfoxnik. He paid me a visit to have a look at my bass around November last year. Since then, I went through quite a few instruments and met quite a few BC'ers. Always great advice and common ground with all of them. Nik came and bought a bass from me recently, more time pleasantly spent. Thank you. It's a beautiful thing we've got going here. It helps me to believe that there are still kind people out there.
 5.
So it was a double divan bed? Did it have a headstock or a headboard?
Only 2 drawers, as stated in the ad :-)
 6.
Didn't see it. What was it?
"Double bass" - title "Good condition double bass with 2 drawers" - description 4 pictures of double bed :-)
 7. Seen this ages ago, fantastic.
 8. Im too young to reply to that topic... Ha ha, let me just say - Happy Birthday, all the best. I remember when there was a big fuss about a year 2000, feels like it was only a couple of years ago... And in 2.5 years we have 2020.
 9. Polish Defil. Would be challenging to play a song in a way so this bass stays in tune. Czechoslovakian Jolana's from that era were much better. That doesnt mean that they were good either :-)

 11. Too many to choose from. First one that came to me was "She caught the Katy" by The Blues Brothers (Duck Dunn).
 12. Bought an Alesis SR16 from Frank. Exactly as described, great guy to deal with. Thank you Frank.
 13. I used to have a friend that "played guitar" and he had no sense of rhythm whatsoever. We would start playing together to a simple drum beat, and he would tap his foot like he was hearing something else. I would also hear from him that my bass "doesn't fit". I have talked to my teacher with years of experience teaching music professionally. He said he's had students like that and just described it as "strange". Seems to me like the only way for a person like that to be in the band is to put a lot of effort and learn everything bang on, no improvisation. And that will take time. The biggest problem (exactly as my friend) is when the person doesn't accept the possibility of them being rhytmically challenged - they simply can't hear it and won't listen to anyone. As much as I tried to give friendly hints and help, at the end I would just hear "it's my style, sounds good to me". And I can understand that, it makes perfect sense. If you're playing alone. Preferably with headphones.
 14. Danesh is a great guy. Deal with confidence folks.
 15.
IMO what makes a great bass tone is not the sound of the bass on its own (as the clip in the OP brilliantly demonstrates when it gets to the bass "solo" later in the piece, and the tone is completely "meh" compared with how brilliantly it fits when the whole band is playing), but how it fits in with the other instruments in the arrangement. This is one of the reasons why chasing a great tone you've heard on a recording is for most people a futile exercise, because the rest of musicians you'll be playing with don't sound like the other musicians on the record, so even if you do manage to completely copy the sound of the recorded bass, it won't sit properly because the other instruments sound different. So what you should do instead is listen to the recording and identify what it is about how the bass fits into the sonic space and then replicate that with the musicians you are playing with. In this case it underpins the whole track with the occasional accented notes that pop out. Copy the feel rather than the sound and listen to the tones the other musicians you are playing with are using and pick one for yourself that compliments those. Of course there's no way of knowing how much of that is down to the skill and technique of the player and how much is down to EQ and level automation in the DAW.
As stated at the top, I am not trying to get that tone, I was just curious if you guys can hear anything specific that could have been applied on it. Your explanation is pretty much spot on. Thank you for your input.
 16.
It doesn't matter kind of studio it was recorded in. You don't know what processing has been applied to the bass after it has been recorded to tape, hard disk etc. And there will have been a lot of it. Exactly.
So, you reckon that getting this kind of tone in a live situation would be rather difficult?
 17.
Thanks PG - i dont know the the band and the basser in the first vid looked similar, so i assumed it was him Also, never heard of a Jolana so thanks for the ID
They were quite big in the 60's, 70's I think. Even Clapton played one apparently.
 18.
Plays other planks too Jazzy something and, er..something black
In the first video he's actually the host. So he doesn't play in any of those bands. And yes, the black bass is Jolana Diamant.
 19.
The studio.
It was recorded in a homemade studio - says on the album.
 20.
Looks like a superb bass but I've never known a JV to have the woven wires, I could be very wrong but the one I have doesn't, I look forward to seeing the under side of the pickups and may well be interested Mine doesn't have the body cut out for the truss access either, Idon't think they were all the same and mine was for Japan and not an export model. An excellent price regardless of what it is, either way quality!
Mine has woven wires too. This is an absolute bargain. Good luck with the sale.
 21. There is no more feedback needed here. Just wanted to thank you for visiting me today. It's been an absolute pleasure. I am glad you enjoyed the coffee. Have fun with the bass, I'm happy it went to you. All the best.
 22.
Wicked tune!!! Off to YT to see if I can find more...
You can listen/(buy) to the whole album on bandcamp.
 23.
Just don't get this "owned by (insert famous name)" guff. It's a mass produced instrument. The magic was in JJ's fingers and brain, not a piece of wood with bits of metal stretched along its length. JJ would have made magic with a Satellite copy. The only good thing is that a famous player's family sometimes gets to make a bit out of these sales. Other than that, it's bullshit.
Theres this "ex Pino Palladino" precision or jazz hanging on eBay for like £15k... waiting for "the right buyer" I guess :-)
 24. I don't necessarily want that tone, I definitely can't play like that. I am just curious what has the biggest influence on that particular tone. It gets me. I am talking about bass solo (the bassline seems to be slapped) on this track: https://pendofsky.ba...ack/psychobaton The bass he's using is 70's Jolana Diamant (?) from Czechoslovakia I think.
