1. I'm in sutton coldfield.
2.
I've already got one, rarely use it because of the weight (and my gigs are all pretty small scale) but I'm still thinking about two of these..with the Stereo 800 power amp....hmmmm. Where would I put it!?
It could double as a coffee table, just stick it in the centre of the room, and cover it in a nice table cloth . I'm down by Bristol tomorrow........if you were interested .
3. I found the RS210 I had to be very bright and quite harsh sounding. I was using a MarkBass F1 though, I'm told that the TC heads have a built in high end cut, maybe this compensates for the brightness in the cabs. The main thing I didn't like was the finish. Mine was one of the newer cabs with a so called better finish, but I thought it was pretty rubbish. I can't imagine them lasting as long as the SWR Goliath II that I'm currently using.
4. In excellent condition. I bought it last week, but it's really too heavy for me, I want to get a 4 ohm Golight cab and possibly a 4 ohm Goliath Junior. It's an 8 ohm cab, and sounds amazing. I wish I'd discovered SWR sooner because it provides the perfect sound for me, I've spent a fortune over the years on cabs. You can see why players like Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Jimmy Haslip use them, and have continued to use them for years. I've fitted new corner protectors to it, the originals were a bit tatty (they were getting on a bit), I still have the originals if anyone should want them. The carpet covering is in excellent shape, no pulls or major tears. I wonder what the new TC cabs will look like when they're this age. Here's the technical blurb from the SWR website. The first upgrade to our original 4x10, featuring a redesigned crossover, input panel, and 10" driver, greater power handling capacity (500 Watts RMS), and upgraded construction techniques and materials. The Goliath II was upgraded again in 1996 to the Goliath III. Impedance: 8 ohms @ 600 Hz Power Handling Capacity: 500 Watts RMS Sensitivity: 103 dB SPL @ 1W1M Frequency Response: -6dB @ 40 Hz and 12KHz Safe Excursion Limits: 400 Watts continuous sine wave @ 40 Hz, 56V in @ 8 ohms. Size: 23" W x 23" H x 18 1/2" D Weight: 90 lbs. Production Period: 1990 to 1996 I paid £200 for it, and I want to get that back. It's collection from my home, or I can meet or deliver within reason. I can also trade for a Goliath Junior cab. This must be in excellent condition.
5.
I've not used these to rackmount an amp before, but I've used them in datacentres where we have ended up with non rackmountable equipment and they work just fine. I'd go for option 1 actually - being a solid plate makes the thing less likely to bend than having a perforated plate. You'll need to find a way of securing the amp to the shelf - that can be as simple as drilling 4 appropriate sized holes for the feet of the amp to sit in or you may want to get more sophisticated and pop the lid off the amp and finding suitable empty spaces to drill a hole through so you can bolt it to the shelf.
Thanks, the amp's got threaded holes in the bottom for the 'official' tray. I was either going to use them, or maybe use super strength velcro, but using the feet holes is a good idea. The amp is really, really light anyway, so I don't think there'd be a problem with the shelf flexing.
6. I want to rack mount my SWR Headlite amp. The SWR kit is $100 plus shipping and the dreaded import duty and VAT. Do the following things work with anything, or has anyone used something different with good results ? http://www.audiospares.com/product.php?productid=371 http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/16499-1u-19-rac...penn-elcom.html http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=262-535 The 3rd one looks good. Thanks !
7. They are extremely well made basses, I've had a Marcus Miller and the '62.
8. I had a fretless last year, I paid £350 for it.
9. SWR Amplite ?
10.
I got new carpet, corners and handles for a 2x10 for under £30 from... http://www.terralec.co.uk/
Perfect, thank you ! The corners are only 45p too, what are a bargain.
11. I just bought an SWR Goliath II cab. It sounds fantastic !!!!!!!! Considering it's age it is actually in very good condition. The carpet covering was a bit tatty looking, and there are a couple of marks on the grille. I want to spruce it up a bit though. I've given it a shave, and vacuumed it off, so the carpet covering is now very nice. My Brother is going to spray the grille for me, and I'm confident it'll look as good as new. I want to put some new corner bits on it, where do you get them from ?
12. Anthony Jackson is a huge hero of mine, as you can see from my avatar. I was really lucky a few years ago, and met him at an ICMP masterclass. He's a phenomenal player, and a truly innovative musician.
13.
DUDE YOU HAVE ONE OF THE LEGENDARY JACO FRETLESSES!!!
And two 6 string Calibas basses too ! I particularly like the left hand 6 string Calibas.
14.
Rotosound Swing bass 66
I had a fretless CIJ jazz last year. That really came to life with a set of the Rotosounds on it. It didn't sound right with any others. Even though I generally prefer nickel strings on my basses.
15. Can anyone recommend one ? I'm going to Spain for 3 months soon, and I'm getting a headphone amp for personal practice while I'm there. I want to be able to plug the metronome into the headphone amp.
16. Roundwounds will give you more mwah. I like nickels on fretless bass, I think my favourite player is Michael Manring whi uses D'addario's.
17.
Time is money. It is not cheaper for me to take a day off work (because that's when the cheap tickets will be - week days) to then sit on a bus for anything up to 10 hours each way, for what could amount to an unfavourable tyre kick and a no thank you. Or maybe someone who doesn't even show up at the rendezvous point (I've read about that happening to someone on here). I'll do my research and hope for the best. I can fix a lot of things for myself these days, and if I can't (or can't find someone who can) then I'll take the hit of moving it on with issues, or part it out. Even that's still cheaper than watching grain after grain of sand trickle through the hourglass of life on a bus/train and end up doing it all again on the way back home with nothing to show for it. How was your day off? Rubbish - I went to London to get a bass and all I got was a bad back and pressure sores!
Each to his own I guess, but I'd rather suffer a bad back and pressure sores than a large dent in my bank balance. Anyway, sorry for hijacking this thread somewhat. It's just my personal preference to collect things. I also don't trust couriers either, but that's another story. I sincerely hope that the guy here gets his money back on this, and again....sorry for sidetracking.
18.
Seems a bit over the top mate, I mean I might die if I eat a dodgy bit of chicken, hasn't stopped me eating chicken yet. And the chance of a nice bass quite cheap is worth a punt. Never say never
It depends what you call cheap. I bet you're careful what Chicken you eat though ? Anything 'cheap', ie £200 or so I wouldn't bother with anyway, chances are the seller just wants rid of it......why ? Anything more than that I wouldn't risk because I couldn't afford to get stung. Just because you buy from Ebay, or pay with Paypal, that doesn't mean that you are guaranteed your money back, and it can take ages to get it back. This year alone I've travelled to Edinburgh, London twice and Oxford to collect items that I've bought or traded. I've been to Scotland previously to buy a bass. I make a day out of it. Quote.. Disagree strongly with that. Being geographically challenged as I am coupled with the esoteric tastes I have, I find myself with little choice other than to buy from afar. I've got 5 keepers. The few I've had problems with, I've returned without major hassles (just some minor squirming on a couple of occasions). Public transport can be really cheap nowadays. I just did a search on Megabus, a return from London to Edinburgh for a random day next week is £28. That's going one day, and coming back the next. If you're flexible it's cheaper, and a lot cheaper than being ripped off by some weaselly conman on Ebay. Another example Aberdeen to London is £40 return, a long trip, but again, it's better than being ripped off.
19. I don't intend to offend anyone, and I really hope that you get this sorted out, and your money refunded to you. It just goes to show that you should never, ever buy a bass unseen or untested. Certainly never off anywhere as vermin infested as Ebay.
20. Yet another successful deal with Clarky. I just got the smallest and lightest amp that I ever owned .
21.
I just got recommended these KRKs from Digital Village, so I bought them. They seem very good. £129 http://www.dv247.com/headphones/krk-kns-84...adphones--80557
The KRK's are now joint top of my list, with the Sony MDR7605's. I like the look of the KRK's.
22.
Honestly for a proper decent pair of headphone monitors I'd always get http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d.html/ref=r...72?a=B000AJIF4E Brilliant headphones, used widely at studio's and radio stations. Come in around £80 and kill off any of my other headphones up to £200~ ish.. Also claims of better bass responce etc.. You do NOT want. It just means they will be EQ'd to have more bass. Which you don't want! You want a good pair of studio monitor headphones with a very flat response. The lack of the headphones being unable to handle the bass is due to the phones' not being good enough.
You know, I've spent the last two hours researching headphones. These Sony's get some great recommendations, they're a studio standard. The consensus of opinion seems to be that for studio monitoring don't go for Bose or Grado, both are too unaccurate.
23. Bump for the sexy photos .
24.
I have no money, but I would love that bass.
That is probably the bass I desire most in the world .
