1.
hey man, is it the modern 1u unit? or the 2004/5 one? 2 u and longer?
It's the tiny half rack size 1U model that fits into your gig bag. The QC sticker on the side says it was built in September 2008, so it's about 2 1/2 years old. I didn't know there had been an earlier bigger version, you learn something every day I guess .
2. Bump.
3. Make it fun. I teach kids bass for a living. If it isn't fun, or interesting then they'll just shut off and lose interest. I tend to start off teaching them what the notes are on the fretboard, and get them to play along to an easy song. Just playing root notes, something maybe like Bryan Adams and summer of 69, or something by ZZ Top. Something fairly easy anyway. Like Doddy said, relate the notes back to the stave, and show them what a simple 1/4 or 1/8th note rhythm looks like. It's good when they go home and they can say that they can play a song. Get them to suggest songs that they'd like to play too.
4. Excellent condition, it could probably be described as 'like new'. £425 posted within the UK. Photos to follow later.
5.
Hi, I take it this is the Bass case and not the guitar one Cheers Barry
This isn't called Basschat for nothing .
6. Hex core strings generally have a higher tension that round core's. Try D'addario ProSteels, they've got the highest tension of any strings that I've tried.
7. I believe these are quite rare, and very, very good.
8. An as new Mono M80 gigbag. I prefer the Protec Contego that I use, this has only been used once. £85 posted.
9. I had a Roscoe 5 string about 6 years ago. It was a fretted bass, but it had what I would describe as the perfect fretless sound. It had Barts and a Bart preamp. I think it had a mahogany body and Spanish olive facings.
10. I emailed them. I just had this reply. Hi, I`m very sorry because i cannot reply so soon, but i was out of my town with my father, because is very sick and i must to stay with him. i`m based in Lerwick, if you are still interested ,let me know Thx, Strange phrasing . I've relied that I'm sorry to hear about her Father. But what a coincidence because I live in Lerwick too, so can I call around and try the bass LOL.
11. I love this bass, she's so beautiful. You must really, really love Roscoe's to want to part with this. I just wish it was Overwater sixes that you wanted .
12. These are great basses. I think this guy wants one. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=conklin Like you say, it can be re-fretted.
13. Scrunchies are cheaper .
14. I use them on my sixes to cut down on sympathetic vibration. I just came across these on Talkbass. http://www.gruvgear.com/fretwraps The rather good Anthony Wellington endorses them.
15.
I find these hard o play because of the string spacing (which i believe is 20mm? Or something close to that!) If your not use to sixxers, or your prefered spaing is tighter these can be tricky to get used too, However they sound GORGEOUS and have great necks, and the spacing isn't an issue when your used too it (though some never do get used to it!) also makes slapping a breeze. Ace basses, and this one is the best colour Bump on me man!
The spacing is 19mm, the same as my Overwater, the necks are about 5mm narrower. And yes, they do sound amazing, just listen to John Patitucci.
16. I'd love this, no money though unfortunately. I could only trade another 6 string for it, I guess that's no use .
17. That's fantastic ! I'm very jealous, I wish it was mine. The whole bass looks very balanced, nothing looks too big.
18. I've found that strings tend to work differently on different instruments. What may work well for you on one particular bass, won't work so well on another. I've used DR nickels for years, but they just don't sound right on my Overwater bass or my Zon. I'm using D'addario ProSteels on them, which sound great.
19.
http://www.overwaterbasses.com/classic_j.html
Yeah, I saw that. It's not a 'straight' jazz bass though, it's got a P bass pickup. I don't know why they call it a 'classic jazz', when it's not. They may as well call it a 'classic P', that'd be equally as right as it is wrong.
20. Get yourself a few lessons. You'd be surprised how having a challenge can inspire you to keep playing.
21.
I don't like basses that make me look like a midget
I have that problem too, I'm 6ft but only about 10 1/2 stone. I look really silly with 'big' basses.
22.
4 or 5 string?
A 4 string. If they're only a tiny bit as good as my 6 then they'll be amazing.
23. I'm definitely getting one, it'll have to be a Contemporary though, I'm not so keen on the Classic with the P pickup. In fact why is it called the 'Classic jazz', when its not ?
