1.
My drummer told me that there is this competition to see how long any drummer can stay perfectly in time with a click track. The world record is something like 31 beats so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've never used a metronome ever and never had the inclination to use one as I don't feel that it is something that would benefit me. For some reason, I tap my feet on the off beat - eg tap on 2 & 4 or if its a faster song, on the 'and' of each eigth note. I wouldn't get too hung up on it. As ARGH said, as long its not losing you gigs. If you are really bad at timing then I could understand but 6 milliseconds is hee haw and absolutely nothing to worry about. If anything, its more about the feel than the timing. Unless you're playing with a click track, which I hate as it makes everything too regimented and not very fluid, then you and the drummer should be playing in time with each other.
I find the opening statement a bit hard to believe, I think it's probably that your drummer can't play to one . I regularly play with drummers who're playing to a click live. They play to the click in time all through the song. I practice for about 5 or 6 hours per day, at least 2 hours with a metronome (which is the same as a click track), I'll stay in time for as long as I play. The trick is to make the click groove, it's like playing with a good drummer.
2.
I haven't a clue either, but it gives the rest of us the chance to buy fantastic basses at a great prices!!
That's kind of what Chris May said to me earlier . He also said that if the people who buy these basses didn't buy the bass, then it'd probably be a Harley Davidson .
3. I just became the owner of the most fantastic Overwater bass. This bass looks superb, and more importantly plays and sounds fantastic. Now it's only just 18 months old, and I appear to be the fifth owner. Which I find really bizarre. It must have cost the original owner very nearly £3000. I can understand why a couple of the owners would sell it on, hand issues etc. A 6 string bass can be a bit awkward, and can aggravate any injuries. But you do see quite a few custom made instruments coming up for sale. These instruments originally cost thousands of pounds to buy.
4. He sold a couple of Wal basses last year. I don't know how much they went for.
5. I'll certainly be buying a copy. Michael Manring, Yves Carbonne and Gavin Harrison are three of my favourite musicians. I like the tunes too, very nice
6. Since my Overwater strings still haven't arrived after a week. I'm going to order some more, this time from Stringsdirect. I usually use DR Lo-rider or Sunbeams, but they haven't got a 6 string set in stock in my preferred gauge. I've used D'Addario EXL strings in past, they're pretty good. My new Overwater bass is 35" scale though, anyone know how long their long scale strings are ? 7. Yeah, I phoned them today and spoke to Lawrence. They were sent Friday, so hopefully they'll be here tomorrow. Status are fantastic with their online orders, I wanted nickel strings though, and Status don't do those.
8. Bump. Thanks to everyone who PM'd me regarding this. I based my original asking price on what Bassdirect are currently asking, I didn't realise that Thomann are a whole £30 cheaper.
9. I've got a transcription of this, but it's in standard notation, if that's any good to you.
10. Are they usually very slow to ship things via their website ? I ordered some strings a week ago, and I've emailed them, but so far nothing which is very annoying.
11.
Ah but these days I think Paypal like to have a back up source a credit card or account. You cannot delete the details and close the account until so many days after your last transaction.
I have a debit card from an account that I don't keep money in on my Paypal account. I don't trust people, if someone lodges a dispute then Paypal will automatically remove money from your account and hold onto it until the matter is sorted out. They can't do that to me . This highlights the problems with Ebay's policy of holding onto money from some sales until positive feedback is left.
12. Is this any good ? I've always kind of stayed clear of Behringer gear, cheap components and reliability issues have scared me off. But this looks a little bit good, and at that price a bit of a bargain to boot. 13. PM'ed! I'll take it, but can you put up some photo's please ?
14. A lot of replies here mention Bergs, they're very far from being 'flat', at least to my ears anyway. The Berg IP powered cabs are programmed to sound flat, but they aren't.
15. I'm sure that it was James Jamerson on the original. There's a transcription of it in the Jamerson book 'Shadows of motown', which kind of supports that.
16. For uncoloured cabs you really won't find anything to beat Acme Sound. Having owned pretty much every cab from Epifani to Trace to Aguilar to Eden to Markbass to EA to Bergantino and Accugroove, I've stuck with the Acme's. They go deeper than any other cab, they're not hyped and overpriced like Bergantino, and they REALLY are very, very uncoloured. They're also superbly well made. Partner it with an EA or Markbass head. I know you said you didn't want Markbass, but the LM2/3 does scope as being very 'flat'.
17. Do a search in the 'theory and technique section'. There are quite a few links there to various sites, and quite a few transcriptions that you can download that people have done. I have four or five of the songs on your list, but no way of scanning them or whatever, sorry. PM me if you want, and I'll give you my address and you can send me a SAE, I'll post them to you. I've got the following - Sir Duke, Superstition, Summer of 69, Sex on fire, Lady Marmalade. I've got chords for a few of the others too. A couple of them are ones I would bother transcribing, the Sister sledge ones are more 'groove songs, I'd just write the chords out and jam over them, same for Car wash.
18. Bass player available for professional work. Dep work, recording sessions, projects, working bands. All bands considered. I am very experienced and reliable. I have transport, passport, etc, and I am easy going.....I have done hundreds of live gigs throughout the UK and Europe, numerous session dates, and played in house bands on cruise ships. 19. This is the one I'm looking at getting. The string distance from the edge of the fretboard looks fine on it. Maybe yours had a problem? I'll definitely bear it in mind when I try the bass on Sunday, thanks for bringing it up.
20.
The basic differences between the S2 & KingBass are the body shape/geometry & pickup placement. The KingBass tends to be a little boomier overall & the shorter body makes for some interesting playing positions (places the bass further to your right hand side.) The 32" scale KB's tend to take a little getting used to, as all the notes have moved significantly closer to you! The only problem I had with my two KingBasses was that being slightly on the rotund side, I found the neck angling away from me. The S2 would be my personal choice. Rich.
Thanks for all of your replies . You've not experienced the strings being too close to the edge of the fretboard ? I've never come across anyone else saying this personally.
21. Yessss ! A superb band, they don't seem to get the acclaim that they deserve. Tony was/is a great player. I didn't realise that they were still playing .
22. I have a very tempting offer, but one final bump to see if anything else comes up. A 5 string Kingbasse maybe ?
23. I'm seriously considering a trade deal for a very nice looking Status S2 5 string bass. I've never tried one, though I did own a Kingbass series 1 a few years ago. How do they compare sound wise and playing wise ?
